Attendance- @ Charlotte- 1,900
Attendance @ Bonaventure 3,600
Attendance @ Rhode Island 3,900
Attendance @ the dump- 6,900

What? For your team to keep playing? Nothing close to a decent crowd? Especially with 3 "bubble" teams playing at home?

Pathetic. I guess it's somewhat better than to have 1,000 in Boardwalk Hall which includes the ushers, concessionaires and various other indigent stragglers, but wow. Hard to make an argument for the League being "big time" when you see attendances like that.

This is really really bad. No doubt in my mind if we were in the position to have a home game instead of a bye we would have 10,250 there. Although isn't 3,600 about all the Bonnies gym holds?

The attendance may have been low, but I'm sure Charlotte would've stormed the court after the win.

Don't have figures but my guess is that those numbers are better than those teams could do in Atlantic City.

How many of those schools were on spring break?

Naw. The Reilly Center holds 6,000.

A bit off OT, but according to a Frease tweet, the A10 put all 8 teams in the same hotel. That must cause a lot of awkwardness on the elevators.

Last year's first round announced attendance was 3,300, and a lot of that was probably all session tickets that didn't even show. By my math, that's a roughly 400% increase in attendance this year over last year.

Bona was the last team to get a home game and they didn't know about it until the final game of the season. Short notice. They also had the local high school team in the state playoffs.

As for Dayton, Rhode Island and Charlotte, they all choked down the stretch. The last 7 games of the regular season were UD and URI lost 5 of their last 7. Charlotte lost 6 of 7 and then lost again in the tourney. Maybe fans had enough of that crap and didn't want to pay 20 bucks. A lot of our fans would bag it too.

If SLU was a five seed instead of a four and had a home game I bet they could have played in front of 8-10 k.

Next year the A-10 should include that home game as part of the season ticket package for every school so that people have paid for it anyway. If it doesn't come to pass they can apply that money on the deposit for the next season.

If Xavier was in a rebuilding year and we came on down the stretch and finished 5th, we would sell the game out with 10,000. If Xavier was in first and lost 6 of their last 7 many people would bag the game.

It is still a hell of a lot better than Atlantic City. I love the new format.

i believe the afternoon session of the opening round drew 211 people a couple years ago. that's for both games. with four teams playing in the two games, that's roughly 53 fans per team. even teams whose fans bag it draw far more than 53 fans. i'd say the experiment worked great.

Now that is a great suggestion from the President.

Getting it through Congress on the other hand.........

The only tweak I would make to Snipe's suggestion would be to also give the option to credit that money to any postseason ticket (be it NCAA/NIT/Cincinnati Bearcat Invitational) that the team would play in. If you can't get such a credit, then it can be applied to next season's ticket package.

I'm certainly not saying we wouldn't have a fuller place - but really? 10, 250? - When we had one of the top 2 teams in the league and Mack still had to beg for people to come to Richmond and St Bonnies. I know, students were on spring break but I remember the last time we were in the NIT against Princeton (I think) and it wasn't a sell-out.

According to the DDN, Tuesday was UD's lowest attendance for a game at the arena. Ever. Even including the O'Brien years. http://www.daytondailynews.com/dayton-sports/university-of-dayton-flyers/ud-regroups-to-trip-up-colonials-589847.html

I really don't want to hear how the Flyers have the greatest fan base in college basketball anymore. But, on the other hand, props to them for finally showing their displeasure with Gregory in some fashion.

Coach Mack did not beg anything. He implored the attendees to be LOUD.

Am I the only one picturing each team coming off different elevators at the same time in team colors and entering a big court for some sort of basketball battle royal?

Sorry. Slow work day.

I tend to disagree here. If this team was in a position where we were the 5th or lower seed, we would not have seen 10,250 in the stands for the first round game.

If that game was to go to the tourney, then yes...but the first round game if we came in 5th place...no way. I would say around 8-9K.

Depends. I'll bet if this format were in place in 2004 we'd have a pretty packed house.

The new format, besides attendance gains, gives the four teams a chance to rest a couple days. In the case for the A-10, I feel the format gives the conference a better chance of getting an extra team in.

They get better attendance for the play-in game. Of course, both of those teams are better than the cryers. Definitely better coached.

It will be very interesting to see how well Dayton draws for their NIT game. Assuming, of course, they get a home game.

Dayton fans are usually content just to make the tourney because of their history of not going every year. However, after coming off the year they had last year, and with basically everyone back, their expectations had to be to make the tourney. I think that's probably the first time in a long time that they actually expected to make the tourney, so their disappointment is probably more bitter than usual.

Charlotte was on Spring break...that's 2,000ish fans gone.

Like a few have said, Charlotte fans were just ready for the season to end.
