This is great. Oh Mick, please stay in Clifton for years.

Who says he's supposed to be a force? (http://cincinnati.com/blogs/uc/2010/03/08/cronin-on-yancy-gates/)

Later in the article. YTG is a complete idiot, isn't he?

Here’s what Mick said about Gates when he signed with UC November, 2007:

“Yancy is one of the most athletic players you’ll ever see that’s 6-9, 260 pounds. He’s very quick off his feet and he’s got tremendous hands. He’s still learning to play with his back to the basket and developing his low-post game, but he’s a big-time player. He’s the most talented big man in Cincinnati since LaSalle Thompson.”

Similar to what he said about Stephenson when he got his commitment. He pounded his chest about what a great recruiter he was, and then when he fails to develop the talent it's all "they were never that great to begin with."

I've never seen anything like it.

I don't know who runs this site but I some stumbled upon it. Some good Xavier stuff and some funny stuff as well. Anyone claim this site?

Another YTG gem from today:

"As bad breaks started piling up on us, I think the kids started putting too much pressure on themselves."

Enough about the "bad breaks". I'm sure he's referring to all the bad official calls that SucKS has been "victimized" with this year.

Yep. Please, Mike Thomas. Give the jaundiced leprechaun a 10 year contract extension. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

I have never seen someone consistently refuse to accept responsibility for their performance the way Cronin does. Everything bad that ever happens to that program is the result of some crazy externality that is, or course, out of his control.

How could anyone have any respect for a guy like that? No wonder his kids quit on him every year...

Nice blog, Cheese. By the way, your Rick Reilly comment was hilarious! (and so true)

As for the YTG, he's the epitome of a douchebag. That guy refuses to take responsibility for anything. He's willing to blame everyone else and throw anyone under the bus, including his players. He is a pathetic, little man. And the "man" part of the description is up for discussion.

He learned from the best. I seem to remember Huggs always making excuses or talking about how bad his players played.

Anyone remember last year when Mick claimed that he could have had Terrell Holloway but with Cashmere Wright there it would not have been fair to Terrell because he would never get to play? How is that working out for him? What an idiot.

No but it was on his radio show. Someone called in and asked if they recruited Terrell. He said yeah and we could have signed him but that would not have been fair to Terrell to have to sit behind Cash because they were not on the same level.

This was after Xavier beat UC and Mick was trying to use the excuse that if they had Cashmere things would be different. He always talks a good game. Kind of like Dayton where they win a lot of summer championships.

Is the requirement to getting the UC mean you have to bitch about everything?

I really find this amazing.

What BS. SucKS wasn't even close on TuTu. Xavier and Indiana final 2.

Talk about revisionist history. And compare TuTu's freshman year with Wright this year. That's like comparing, uh, Brooklyn Decker and uh, err, Kathy Bates.

that about does it for me with the YTG, he demeans Holloway, he demeans a f*cking champion. He should beg the lord for a PG like Terrell - he might actually have a true self starter and leader. Then again, he'd prolly F that up as well. I truely believe UC will never be the same because of Mick's arrogant failures.

Looking forward to YTG's excuses after they fall to Rutgers tonight. It was announced that Bishop will not play tonight for violation of team rules.

Gates is easily the most physically gifted player on the court yet acts like he doesn't give a crap. If that kid had gone to Xavier or Ohio State he'd be a star by now. The YTG has ruined his career thus far.

I find the parallel response by XU in regards to Frease, who is also perhaps growing into his role, is that he needs to work harder because he has the talent. Mack thinks the world of his potential. Instead, YTG just sets the bar low enough so it can be touched at all times. How comfortable for YTG I suppose.

UC has some talent on that team. Thank god YTk can't coach em up.

I guess he wants all credit in the world for finally getting a win in March. He'll get it with a win over Louisville tonight.

He's partially right. They are not on the same level. Holloway is much better.

Hey,

Let ol' "Born Ready" have a big tourney in New York.

Then based on 3 days, he'll be getting all of this advice that it's "time to turn pro, bro." So he'll be gone and SucKS will suck worse.

I can hear his peeps in his ear now. "Go for the caish, dude. F- 'em, really, F- 'em!"

UC may have won last night, but the announcers didn't exactly have good things to say about their team, and by association, Cronin. I think it was Bilas who said early in the game, "Cincinnati doesn't shoot well. But one reason is because they take a lot of bad shots."

They criticized Gates for not being aggressive enough on offense. They criticized Stephenson for not moving without the ball and for having a poor attitude at the end of the game. They were all very critical of a UC play at the end of the game coming off a timeout when Louisville stole the ball. And then even after UC won, they basically said that Louisville basically gave the game away.

The announcers were killing them regarding how they were attacking the zone. I'm shocked they pulled out the victory.

That is not a very good team and Louisville played as bad as they could have.

Does anyone else just think the big East is really weak this year? I mean Pitt is mediocre and they are the 2 seed. Would anyone be upset or worried if Xavier had to play them? And louisville is the same team Charlotte and western car drilled in Louisville. Gotta love the media.

Outside of Syracuse, no one in the Big East impresses me. They fool the talking heads every year when the "beat" up on each other.

Have you noticed that almost all the BE teams are supporting expanding the tournament?

I wonder why.

Look at the OOC wins the Big East has as a conference - the list looks like any other conference. They get so much praise for beating up on each other, but there's nothing to show that these are great teams beating up on each other. You could watch the MAC all season and see some great, close games. It's not that the teams are really good, just evenly matched. The Big East is the same way. Now, I won't go so far as to say it's weak. It's a good conference and better than conferences like the MAC, but this year it's not some powerhouse conference to which we should all bow down.

Not weak as in bad weak compared to other years. Pitt finished 2nd they would not have finished 2nd in the a 10. Outside of two or three teams there is not much difference between the big east and cusa or the a 10.

Without B-Espn's continual pumping, the Big Greased is just like any other league.

Big 12 is the best league in College Basketball this year- by far.

I really don't want to play any of those guys.

Well, getting dumped by UofL and Gtown doesn't seem too impressive! Syracuse is good, but they're overrated too. Actually, I don't see any teams out there that should be considered locks for the Final 4. Some seem really good (Kansas), but there aren't any that should be considered nearly invincible like last year's UNC team. Should be a wide open, fun tournament.

I had Syracuse penciled in as a Final 4 team prior to yesterday's loss and injury. The BE is overrated almost every year but they typically have one or two legit national title contenders. I don't think they have any this year.

I guess he wants all credit in the world for finally getting a win in March. He'll get it with a win over Louisville tonight.

This is one possible explanation why he doesn't teach basketball skills and his players don't get better. He thinks he can coach victory. It's funny to watch all the shitty shitty free throw shooting destroy their season.
