If Harry Potter played basketball against the team up I-75, would they be called "They who should not be named?"

I'll just go ahead and congratulate Xavier fans for their win on Friday.

Quite the season from UD. Brian Gregory is just a treat.

It's Reds season. See you all in October.

Just more evidence that Dayton has passed Xavier as a program.

I have to say when I say the score tick across the bottom I thought I saw it wrong when I looked it up I couldn't stop laughing. Between Dayton and UC losing and our victory tonight made me so so happy.

Thank you so very much Mick Cronin and Brian Gregory. Please stick around for as long as you please you both have my support. HAHAHA!!!

Let the self loathing and complaining begin.

I just emailed Mike Thomas and told him I would NOT renew my UCATS membership if Cronin is not given a contract extension. Said I didn't want recruiting to suffer.

I actually graduated from BGSU but grew up being a UD bball fan and have followed them forever, they are my #1 college hoops team.

With that said, I told everyone sitting around me and my dad (UD grad) about 1,000,000 times tonight that BGSU beat St. Louis this year.

This most recent season of UD basketball and the awesomeness that is Brian Gregory (I will not call him BG, as I do not want to insult my alma mater anymore) has left me laughing. The people sitting around me tonight......not so much.

For all the humility UD fans show now...if in some unlikely scenario next week they beat us...the trash talking will begin anew and the Flyers will be a "band of brothers" again.

This may make me sound like the enemy, but in all honesty, it's amazing to me the amount of fan support that program still has. They are a cruel joke for their fans, and as a Redskins fan, there is a part of me that almost feels for them. Almost.

It's kind of like those of us who are Bengals fans. Most of the time, it's wait till next year.

Apparently there were some boos in the arena last night. I really couldn't care less, but find it funny with all the UD fans who looked down on X for the boos after the St. Joe's game when Thad was coach. I imagine it was just a handful of people in both cases, but the Flyer fans had such a holier than thou attitude when talking about the boos at Cintas. Those who live in glass houses....

Okay we all know that dayton was declared the paper champions before the season, so they did not need to go out and prove that they are the best in the A10, because the paper already told them they were #1.....they have just been waiting for the A10 tourney, they wanted to play 4 games and not have a bye in the first round.......I crack myslef up...they are still going to the big dance, just the remeadial one (NIT)...

To be fair, St. Louis basically played as two different teams this year, which can be expected of a young team that receives an impact transfer mid-season.

Not even a transfer, just another freshman that the NCAA screwed.

Say what you will, Xavier's going to have its hands full on Friday. I don't expect to see the same Dayton team that blasted us early last month, but UD shots seem to fall and drives seem more productive when they played Xavier this year.

We really, really need to defend -- plain and simple. We gave up an average of 82 points to UD this year, and they average about 13 points less than that.

If Dante Jackson can hold Chris Johnson to about 7 points and around 5 rebounds (like Johnson seems to average in about every other game EXCEPT against Xavier), even if Dante doesn't score at all, I would consider it a good game for him.

I really want Xavier to be the team to send UD packing to the NIT.

I don't care that Mack likes playing man-to-man but Xavier just needs to suck it up and zone Dayton.

The packline should eat up dribble penetration. Schematics aren't the problem. It's effort.

Not at all surprised by UD's 0-2 this week. They're not good on the road (Richmond) and following up a Thursday game with one on Saturday (SLU) is always tough, especially against a solid team.

Quite honestly, CMack has been mixing in more zone into the game as the season has gone along. Tim Welsh complimented the way that Xavier went to a 2-3 zone at various times.

The Mack Truck has shown a lot more defensive flexibility than either of his two predecessors- and with better effectiveness. Too bad Beaknose didn't have that same flexibility in DWest's senior year against Maryland.

All this being said, I agree. Make the dump hit some outside shots. We know Warren can't and the rest, other than Fabrezius are always questionable. You still have to rebound out of the zone, however.

MOR hit it on the head....beating UD has nothing to do with defending them better or differently, it's all about rebounding. We HAVE to keep them off the glass. If they keep getting 2nd and 3rd chances, even a blind squirrel finds a nut.

Honestly, I expect GW to beat UD. This will complete their late season collapse.

I think BG and Mick should go out to lunch and trade stories about how they blew their seasons.

Only problem with this is that in the massacre they actually DID hit some outside shots, a lot in fact at least early on when it mattered. However, I do believe that the law of averages plays out and I don't see them connecting from deep like they did last time, whether we go zone or not. Just saying that going zone wouldn't have made a difference in the last matchup but it could on a neutral court.

I do worry about the lack of rebounding out of a zone against a team like UD, which is the main reason mack probably opted out of a zone before. What I notice from a lot of teams (ours included) playing UD is they act like they're watching a magician and focusing on the one crazy distracting dreadlocked ballhandler running around, not realizing in the other hand behind the back is a SF with a 40" vert ready to rebound the almost assured miss. On defense, you have to always assume your man is going to try and rebound the ball - because dayton usually doesn't just miss, they miss horribly bad outside of 3 feet.

I really think a zone is unnecessary against Dayton. With their athletes, Dayton likes to drive the basketball. The packline should offer adequate help defense and position for the rebound. I don't think zone is the answer.

We did A LOT of standing around last time we played UD, like we didn't feel like playing in a basketball game. That standing around included NOT blocking out.

Losing to them last month at UD Arena was all about effort. They wanted it, and came out and played that way. Hit us in the mouth, and we just sorta stood there, took it, and didn't do anything about it.

It was easily the most dispirited game I've seen Xavier play in the last 10 years. Fortunately, it was probably the only really poor game we played all of February, which gives me hope it was just an aberration, and that Xavier team that got beat by 25 doesn't really exist anymore.
