Looking at my preseason list, I dont think I did a bad job, but I had a few serious flubs. Biggest one was not having Jason Love on any of my teams. He was terrific. I also overestimated how easily Dan Geriot would recover from a missed season due to injury.
A few players regressed much to the surprise of many of us: Marcus Johhson and DiJuan Harris. And of course Fontan transferred and Bolding suffered from a fractured ankle. He was never the same this season.
If I were to turn in a ballot now, this is what mine would look like:
A-10 Player of the Year
Jordan Crawford, Xavier. Best player in the league. For me it's no contest.
A-10 FIRST TEAM
Kevin Anderson, Richmond
Damian Saunders, Duquesne
Jordan Crawford, Xavier
Lavoy Allen, Temple
Jason Love, Xavier
A-10 SECOND TEAM
Chris Wright, Dayton
Andrew Nicholson, St. Bonaventure
Ryan Brooks, Temple
Ricky Harris, Massachusetts
Shamari Spears, Charlotte
A-10 THIRD TEAM
Kwamain Mitchell, St. Louis
David Gonzalvez, Richmond
Rodney Green, LaSalle
Keith Cothran, Rhode Island
Juan Fernandez, Temple
Honorable mention:
Delroy James, Rhode Island
Willie Reed, St. Louis
Jonathan Hall, St. Bonaventure
Terrell Holloway, Xavier
Chris Johnson, Dayton
Chris Gaston, Fordham
A-10 NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR
Chris Gaston, Fordham
A-10 NEWCOMER TEAM
PF Chris Braswell, Charlotte
PF Cody Ellis, St. Louis
C Aaric Murray, LaSalle
WF Chris Gaston, Fordham
WG Lasan Kromah, George Washington
HONORABLE MENTION
F Terrell Vinson, Massachusetts
G Akeem Richmond, Rhode Island
Thought I would pass along the props for Love, Crawford and Holloway.
WH is a pretty straight shooter.

WH is a pretty straight shooter.
Yes he is, and a true authority on A-10 basketball.

He may be good but how does he not have Terrell Holloway on either the 2nd team or the 3rd team. He must not have watched the UC or Richmond games. Xavier is not where they are without the solid and clutch play from Holloway.

Terrell is solid but he also went into a shooting funk for quite awhile. Once again Terrell is solid, but the league has many solid players that need consideration.
I would have Chris Gaston ranked 3rd team. Much of his bad play is a result of too many minutes and not having the support staff around him. He would make any team in the A10 a better team IMO.

I want to rank Holloway higher, but the numbers just don't bear it out.
It's the same story as every other year for X. They have so many weapons, it's hard to both (1) single a player out as being head and shoulders above others and (2) _not_ include a player, because their contributions are so key.
I want to find room for Holloway and McLean on those teams, but their season-long performance just doesn't justify it.
Anyway, taking the regular season title is far better than making an all-tournament team.
Also, I'm guessing "newcomer" means "new to D-I basketball" and not "new to the A-10"? Otherwise, Crawford takes that title hands down, but I've never seen him mentioned regarding it. For freshman, Gaston certainly is a worthy winner. What a pity Fordham is so *($#ed up -- you could actually start building a team around Jio Fontan and Chris Gaston.

I wonder when the actual voting is done. Shouldn't that be this week?

Per Eiser's tweet, it should be announced tonight:
Eiser_XU_Hoops Atlantic 10 honors will be announced tomorrow evening...only coaches vote. I'd vote Crawford Player and Mack Coach of the Year if I could.

I agree with WH for the most part, but here are my picks, as well as some other awards.

I fear this year's stars and awards etc. will pretty much exclude Xavier. I fear Anderson will be voted in as POY ahead of Jordan, and his coach will get the COY.
I'm also afraid this will be another topic for a Stanley Burrell rant.
Mack is heads and shoulders above Richmond's coach for what he achieved, and he led his team to a fourth straight regular season title, even if it was shared.
Also look for Chris Wright to be a serious POY candidate or be put on the first team instead of Jason who really deserves it.
Lyons and Crawford should be the top two candidates for newcomer of the year.
I may get a lot of kaka for this, but both McLean and Dante should be on the all-defensive team. And both should merit at least honorable mention if not on one of the three teams. Dante, especially. He busts his butt and yes, often makes mistakes by trying to do too much, but he has made some huge plays for Xavier this season and is a leader.
Sadly, the A10 office counts the votes and I'm sure jeremanders the selections in an effort to be politically correct. Look at all the pre-season hype for Dayton, LaSalle, Duquesne, and Rhody and where are they?? Hey, LaSuck didn't even make the A10 tournament.
No, I'll be very surprised if either the POY or COY come Xavier's way. Hell, Gregory might even get COY for his innovative "hockey substitution" patterns.:D:D:D

Nice picks, Examiner Guy. I like the recognition of Gaston. He came to play against XU, even when no one else on Fordham did either time. He's doing everything he's doing, despite no help. Well, part of that is _because of_ no help, but still....he made a good showing.
