Let's be realistic about this, it is a matter of "when" not "if" regarding expansion.
It will affect the BE.
Regardless of what anyone thinks of the idea of a protected value for BE basketball, as it presently exists, football will drive the forward decisioning on all this, and the BE football schools will see the writing on the wall, regarding getting to an all-sports conference.
ESPN already elevated itself with the SEC.
It will figure something out with whatever comes out of the realignment process.
