Not really, but 700 has determined my parish, St. Vincent Ferrer, to be a "finalist" - whatever that means - to have them broadcast at our fish fry this Friday. We're a very small school and can use all the publicity we can get, so if you don't min,d please vote for St. Vincent. Thanks. Here's the link.

If they are on next will I'll return the favor, but it look like they didn't make the cut this week.

I used to love St Cecelia on Madison Road. It was a huge menu, big crowd, good fish.
Always partial to Alabama Fish Bar downtown though, could call in from channel and cut the line as long as I said I was picking up fish for Rob and Kit

I've given St.Vincent the Garvin Imprimatur. You'd probably have the Channel 19 remote with Valerie Abati too, but she has found my emails "creepy."

They were at my parish, St. Michael in Sharonville, 2 weeks ago but I don't know how. We must have stuffed the ballot box, as honestly, I have never been impressed with our Fish Fry plus they won't sell beer there. What the hell? Good Luck to St. Vincent!

St. Max in Liberty Township/West Chester is the best by far. If you have to wait in line, the beer vendor is handy and you can drink and socialize while moving along the line. Fish and other food are great, too, by the way.

Up here in the Land of Not,
The Public House on Kamms Corner owned by nothing but Catholics.
Best Fried Perch on Friday during Lent. Get there early.

I've never attended a fish fry. Not being Catholic and having grown up in Avondale/Evanston/OTR I really never even knew of Lent until I graduated from Withrow and joined the USMC and noticed some guys running around with black crosses on their foreheads. Then I became more acquainted with it during my lone year at XU.
Not to offend anyone, but does anyone know the significance of not eating meat in Lent, or just in general give me a quick run-through of a Fish Fry? I am just overall curious of the whole event.

Catholics are not supposed to eat meat during Lent as a sacrifice to symbolize Christs sacrifice for us all. It does not apply to children under 13 and older folks but I'mnot sure of the age cut-off. Some folks also fast on Fridays. It is probably peculiar to non catholics!

I guess I'm sort of a cynic about this sort of stuff.
But I've found that even the most casual Catholics don't eat meat on Fridays. I think to most, it poses a fun opportunity to broaden your approach to food by limiting it (if that makes sense).

I'm sure some of the older Catholics can comment, but I'm pretty sure when my parents were growing up, It was no meat on any friday, or any day during lent.

So you're saying the younger generation is "cafeteria catholic"?

Really, my guess is that we know each other. Hmmm....now this is going to drive me crazy.
Like I said, I have tried it multiple times over the years and it just always disappoints. I'm not knocking thoes who work and volunteer but the fact is, it's just not that good.
