I'm fine with Temple winning this one. It will just make for a bigger splash when Xavier takes out the Owls March 14th in AC on CBS.

Nope - we can eliminate the CO with an SLU victory.

I actually am kind of rooting for Saint Louis because i think they can get into the at-large discussion with wins over Temple and Dayton and a good run in AC. They will have finished in the top 4 at 12-4, received a bye, and their OOC schedule was played without one their best players. That has to count for something. A case can be made.

And X would win the regular season outright too.

I really enjoyed watching them play and think they are an exciting young team. It'll be nice to have something to flip to when X goes up 40 over Fordham.

Yeah same here. 2 months ago it was unfathomable to even consider SLU had a chance at an at large. While they still have a ton of work to do, wins over Temple and UD and a good tourney run would go a long way. F the NCAA for taking so long to rule on Ellis. He was a major factor from his first game and SLU could have used him early on. SLU also shot themselves in the foot by blowing a late 10 point lead at GW.

Lets go Bills!

Mike Bobinski can't be in the room when SLU is being discussed, but he'll definitely point out that SLU's record with Cody Ellis is drastically different than it was eariy in the year with a pair of stinkers against Iowa State and Bowling Green.

He can't be in the room when Xavier or any program in the A-10 is being discussed by the Selection Committee. He CAN give general information about such programs, however.

Per Philly.com........

Temple-Saint Louis Preview

The Atlantic 10 regular-season crown is in sight for No. 20 Temple, which can clear a major hurdle to that goal Wednesday night in a visit to Saint Louis.

The Owls (24-5, 12-2) are tied with No. 25 Xavier atop the conference, and hold the tiebreaker by virtue of a 77-72 home win over the Musketeers on Jan. 20. Temple has not finished with a share of any type of regular-season title since tying Saint Joseph's for the then-East Division title in 2001-02.

Winning at Saint Louis (19-9, 10-4) won't be easy since the Billikens' 15 home wins lead the conference. The Owls are the first ranked team to visit Chaifetz Arena this season.

"We've made a name for ourselves and everybody wants to beat us," guard Juan Fernandez said.

Per St. Louis Post-Dispatch.......

Defense is the key for SLU Billikens, Temple Owls

One thing's for sure about St. Louis University's game tonight against Temple at Chaifetz Arena: The math shouldn't be too hard.

SLU (19-9, 10-4) and Temple (24-5, 12-2), which is ranked No. 20 in the AP poll and No. 16 in the ESPN-USA Today poll, have two of the nation's stingiest defenses, and they have the numbers to back it up. In league play, Temple is allowing just 58.6 points a game. SLU is allowing 61.8. Nationally, Temple is sixth in points allowed, SLU is 11th. Last week, Temple beat Dayton 49-41, allowing the Flyers just 13 points in the first half. It was the eighth time this season Temple has held an opponent 20 points under its scoring average. Temple has held four of its past five opponents to under 60 points. SLU has held three of its past four under 60. It will be a night for thinking small, except when it comes to contact.

"They're a real stout defense, just like ourselves," said SLU forward Brian Conklin, who sees a lot of similarities between the units.

What does that say about how the game will grind out? "I've been thinking about what it's going to be like," Conklin said, kiddingly. "It could be one of those 20-point games."

Beyond the righteous reason of winning the conference outright, a Temple win means a likely Xavier matchup again with Richmond in the semi-finals.

Check Xavier's record in the A-10 semis. Pass. Go SLU.

I have before today only been thinking about two things that have clouded my judgement as to who I'd like to win. 1) I am driving into AC on Friday and after picking a friend up at the airport in Philly there is no way I can make it for the first game, which would be the #1 see....lean towards Temple winning and being co-champions.
2) If SLU wins, I will also be in attendance this Saturday and while the game is already significant bc it is Love's last game and I will drink heavily in his honor, lifting the A-10 crown as sole champion would be even sweeter.

Now you go ahead and throw in the possible Richmond semi situation and it looks like I'm now 100% decided. Go SLU, X deserves the crown alone. We don't like sharing.

Upon even further review, we may really, really want SLU to win.

Surmise the A-10 ends like this (definitely subject to change):

Xavier 14-2
Temple 13-3 (loss at SLU)
Richmond 12-4 (loss at Charlotte)
Saint Louis 11-5
Rhode Island 10-6
Charlotte 10-6
Dayton 9-7
Duquesne 8-8

Choose your path as one seed or two seed:
Quarterfinals - Duquense or Dayton (admit UD is more dangerous)
Semifinals - SLU/URI or Richmond

But also consider two seed may provide opportunity for more quality wins.

Twist - if wins out, Richmond owns tiebreaker over Temple and would get two seed.

Have been thinking the same thing. A 2 seed would put us on a collision course with UD in the quarterfinals.

I know this may upset others' sensibilities, but I really, really do not want to play UD again -- moreso than any other team.

I would love for SLU to win this game for many reasons, but I think it would be great if they would really enter into the at-large debate and some well-versed, intelligent sportswriter would ask Rick Majerus the following question:

So, Coach, it looks like St. Louis has a great shot at making it in to the tourney, but you do realize, that if you guys get in, you might have to travel. Will you deny the bid because too much travel is bad for the kids?

After seeing how SLU has played with Ellis becoming eligible, I don't want these guys to leave the a-10. But, I think it is bound to happen with the travel problems and consequently, a lack of time in school for the players.

With them being so young, and showing the a-10 that they can compete with any team, I would like for them to stay and fully blossom. It seems like a tough place to play too.

My flight doesn't arrive until 1120am on Friday (in Philadelphia) so, selfishly I am pulling for Temple and a tie for first. Temple would get the #1 seed because they beat us, and we get the second seed, yet get to say 4-peat!! #1 seed plays 8/9 at 12pm. I KNOW, I KNOW!! Sorry, but I don't want to miss the first half, it is a 1 hr drive from Philly to AC. I already paid for the all session pass (silver) , but still I want to see what I can see. A later game is more conducive to my drinking and then, post-game gambling. GO X!!!

Willie Reed is going to be a beast in the a-10 if he isn't already. His length, athleticism, and ability to score, whether it be around the basket or with the jumper, make him a player with great potential.

I have been saying all along SLU is really one year away but they didnt better than I thought this year competing right at the top of the A10. Not bad for the youngest team on the country.

Hopefully they can do some damage in the NIT and hopefully they get a first round home game as I will be back in St. Louis for two months starting this weekend.
