I hate to be so negative on this team, BUT if you're only winning to Fordham by 3 points at half than something is seriously wrong. I have given this team/coach every break but come on! When they had close games against Char, Richmond, and St Joes I justified it because those teams are decent and in a conference all the teams know you really well, BUT Fordham is absolutely awful!!!

It really scares me that they are playing this bad this late in the year. We have a veteran group and they turn the ball over at an alarming rate. It's ridiculous. Let's see what they can do in the second half. They should win by 30! Bottom line!

ps. Monster game by Ta'Shia so far! 19 points in the first half!

There is no way we are the #5 team in the country. Look at all the teams around us. Uconn, Nebraska, Tenn, Notre Dame, etc would all be up by 40!

I'll come to XU's defense.

This is a very good team, a group that can play with almost anyone in the country, as anyone close to womens college hoops knows, there is a huge difference between the top couple of teams, and the next 20. There is still not enough parity in the game to make the entire top 15 teams in the country competitive against each other.

I thin the A-10 is a big part of the trouble that they've had over the past few years. Look at XU's pre conference schedule, it really got them ready to play competitive ball, and then they slip into the A-10 funk that has swallowed up teams in the past. Was it tough going through the conference undefeated, sure, any streak like that is difficult, but the conference is the reason they have a 50+ strength of schedule.
How easy it is to get motivated to play a team that is 2-11 in a very average conference? I think this game is answering that question.

All in all I really like this group, they have size, speed, and depth. i haven't seen that combination in a long long time, that's why I'm expecting very big things from this group.
That is also why i plan of traveling 1000 miles to see them play in the NCAA tourney. I really hope that the tourney gives them some competition and helps light the fire back under them as a group, it would be a shame if this team doesn't achieve what the last team did with this level of talent, that is an elite 8 in the NCAA.

as an addition, you just can't fault the play of T-Phill today, 11 of 11, 3-4 from the line, 25 points, and 4 1/2 minutes to go. Maybe XU is working on something today??

I def know what you're saying and agree to an extent but great teams find that fire and make it happen. It just seems so familar to last year. Ran through the A-10, then towards the end of the year starting really slowing down and not playing as well. You can't blame the conference every year. At some point if this team is as good as WE think they are they have to suck it up and play the way they're supposed too. I do understand how it can be challenging to get pumped up for Fordham, I just feel like our talent level is SOOOO much better this should not be a game!

Remember too where they are today. Last regular seasn game wrapped up the conference a week or so ago, cut down nets last week at Cintas. They're playing in front of what a couple hundred fordham fans, mostly parents on senior night. Fordham is playing to stay alive and get into the A-10 in that last spot. XU is trying to stay healthy.

I thought too that today should have been an historic blowout, but it's just another day and I think that Coach is doing what another coach I work for has been doing. Make every game feel the exact same as the last one and the one before that. It's probably tough for this group to do that, would be real easy for them to have started to celebrate before the game started, but I think he reeled them in just enough to keep them focused.

A wins a win, in the end. We'll see what happens in Maryland this weekend.

xu fan, you're not the only one

"I'm happy we won and I'm happy we're 14-0 but it can't be just about winning," said head coach Kevin McGuff. "It's got to be about how we play this time of year and we played awful. Fordham played harder than we did. I'm disappointed that we played like that in a game this time of the year."

you should not get too worried about this squad. team didn't get to airport in NYC until after midnight and were tired. most of the players also have either a cold or the flu. I expect to see a highly motivated team in DC next weekend.

I've simmered down a little bit and I hope you are correct. It looks like it will be between Umass and Richmond!

Regarding the men's and women's Fordham, games, remember the words of the late Herb Brooks, "If you lose to the Fins tonight, you'll take it to your ****ing grave.";);)
