If you've got Versus (ch. 1323 on digital TWC), tune in now...fabulous game for all the marbles in the Mountain West. BYU's arena seats 22,700!

BYU hasn't won a first round game in forever so if they're like a 5 seed I'm picking that upset in a heartbeat.

Amazing game. BYU is a team I'd love to see X do a home-and-home with.

I had not watched a Mountain West game all year, I am glad I finally did.
Darington Hobson is an impressive player. I liked how they called him Evan Turner of the West.

New Mexico is now large and in charge out there - how much of a seed bump will they get with the MWC crown?

Jimmer Fredette is the real deal too, he must have been on the verge of pooping his pants to sit in the second half.

Fantasic game with an NCAA Tourney tempo! No doubt the Mountain West is better then the Pac 10 this year in both football and basketball. On the gridiron the Mountain West teams went 4-1 in bowl games and 2-0 against the Pac 10. Meanwhile on the hardwood, the MWC should get 3 maybe 4 bids to the NCAA Tourney where the Pac 10 will get 1 maybe 2. The New Mexico/BYU game also blew away the California/Arizona St game which was airing at the same time on Fox Sports Net. It's about time the Mountain West Conference starts getting some respect!

Steve Alford is taking some head today for calling BYU's Jonathan Tavernari an "asshole" in the postgame handshake line. The typical media/blog commentary is that Alford (who subsequently apologized) is at fault because no coach should say anything like that to an opposing player.
I watched the game. Tavernari is one of the most snide, obnoxious pieces of shit I've ever seen on a basketball court. After the game ended he was laughing and making sarcastic remarks to the UNM players in line, all the while the peace loving Mormons were showering the Lobos and the officials with objects. I hope these two teams meet again in the MWC final and Alford invokes John Cheney and sends in the goon.

To top it off, if I heard correctly, Alford went to congratulate Tavernari on a great career since it was his Senior Day and the kid had some smart-ass remark back to Alford about not wanting to hear it or something like that. If all this is the case, I can't blame Alford. The fact that Tavernari went and apologized to Alford after it was all over makes me think it went down that way.

Nothing like the Game Day crew from B-Espn debating the A-10 and Mountain West as "mid-major".
Those insulting F*#ks.

Wow - I read that Tavernari had to go and apologize to Alford after the game, so I assumed Tavernari was the one who acted like an a$$. But it looks to me like Alford deserves just as much blame. And considering he is a coach, he should be disciplined for that.

This video doesn't show the whole thing. The reason this happened is Alforrd went to congratulate Tavernari for a great career at BYU and supposedly the kid made some smart ass remark and rebuked the congratulations and that is what caused this confrontation.

Both were a t fault. The kid was acting like an asshole but Alford needs to take the high road on this one. A head coach should never talk to an opposing player like that.
