Wow, you guys need your head coach to come on a message board before your biggest game of the year to implore you to make noise?? I sort of don't know what to say. Will he offer Capri Suns and orange slices to everyone after the game too?

Hey, I'm just here trying to inject some levity into a board whose members sit around most days smelling each other's gloves and pounding Schlitz malt liquor with Kermit the Frog. I know there's not a lot to do in Cincy, so what you do on your time is up to you.
By the way, I'm still waiting for an original piece of spider smack. So far it's just the same old stuff we have been hearing for years. I know you must have SOMEONE with a little originality here, no??

Biggest game of the year? Seriously? You guys come crawling out from under a rock for the first time in forever, and this is suddenly our biggest game of the year? It is a big, big game for you, but when you are used to being at the top, you face games like this one on a regular basis.
Congrats on having a good year and congrats on beating South Carolina in 1998. Maybe you guys can win another game in the NCAA this year.

It's OK Spider Fan. You are puffing your little chest out now that you are ranked for the first time since 1986. And yeah you got articles in USAToday and Sports Illustrated.
But here's a dose of reality.
You had 5,653 fans show up to see the 17th ranked team in the the nation last year in a stadium that holds 9,071 capacity. Guess there must be a lot to do in Richmond!
When your Anderson and Gonzalez graduate, you'll be back to the cellar with Fordham and SBU. When XU loses 3 contributors (Including to the NBA...know what that is?) every year, we keep on winning.
So back to drinking Jack Daniels in your trailer park and reminiscing about the good ol' days when you were once the capital of the Confederacy. Cause like the days of the south, you are history come Sunday.

I think it has more to do with the students being on Spring Break. He wants to make sure those seats are full and loud like always. I expect we would have gotten the same request from him if we were playing Bonaventure this Sunday instead of you guys.

Well, "A" for effort here, but we were mediocre last year and were coming off a national championship in football (ever heard of that sport?) so our fans weren't as jazzed for basketball. And yet we still beat you. We sold out the gym last weekend. That would be a more relevant comparison.
Hate to break it to you, but Anderson is only a junior, and so is Harper. Garrett is a sophomore. Our incoming recruiting class is our highest-rated since Mooney arrived. We've got a freshman who broke Kobe Bryant's career scoring record at the same H.S. waiting in the wings.
We're not going anywhere.

Football? Really? Congrats on the little guy national title. I think us beating UC and Florida shows just how important having a good football team is to competing with us. But whatever you can do to convince yourself...
Using your reasoning, after we beat you our biggest game of the year will be the Bonnies, because if we lose to them we don't win the conference, either.
Seriously, you guys have had a great season and I think your team will be good for a while. We need some competition in this league.

I thought Alabama won the only football championship that matters? And you don't want to bring football into the conversation about a game that is the biggest you guys have played this year and falls maybe 4th or 5th to us. The yahoos across town use the same "slam" because their basketball team blows, they have a terrible coach, and we are consistantly beating them.
We sell out our ARENA (have you heard of that?) on a regular basis. Our fans are not fairweather...though it's hard to judge when you just consistantly win. When did you last win the A10? We did last year.
When you add revenue to the A10 with some NCAA tournament victories, then we can talk. Otherwise, sit back and watch The Show waltz to another A10 title...4 in a row

Wow now you're too cool for basketball...lame excuse. Though I'm not denying it's quality or the value of the championship, Division 1-AA (or whatever they call it) football is irrelevant on the national sports scene. No student or recruit looks at Richmond and goes "wow, D-1 AA Champions...I gotta be a part of the action!!!".
Which leads me to your recruiting. It sucks. You can't compete with The Show. Your class of 2010 consists of a 3 star, a 2 star, and a NO star. The highest since Mooney arrived? Ha. X has 3 3 stars and a 4 star for 2010 and 2 4 stars for 2011.
Your Kobe-Slayer Greg Robbins was rated a 3 star by Rivals and given a grade of 71 by Scouts/ESPN. He was ranked #261 though...at his position. He had...wait for it...no offers from any school other than Richmond. Must have been the football program.
You make me smile. Keep paying $40,000 tuition and pining for the glory days of Johnny Newman. Brian Grant, Tyrone Hill, James Posey, David West and Derrick Brown said hi.

This is supposed to be proof of that? You probably beat Florida thanks to watching video of how we beat Florida earlier in the year. We held them to the fewest points they have ever scored under Donovan. And Cincinnati?? I get that they are a state rival, but that's like us bragging about how we torched VMI this year. Great.
Fact is, this is Xavier's biggest game of the year. Probably ours too.
TheDanimal
02-26-2010, 01:06 PM
Richmond's last two trips to the Cintas Center have ended in 21 and 25 point losses. I really do not expect this game to be any different. Add that to the fact that Sunday will be X's first meaningful home game in over a month, and I would not want to be Richmond right now. Ye too shall be sacrificed at the A-10 remains covered alter that is the Cintas Center.
Side Note - The fact that London Warren worships Spider Man may, in and of itself, be enough to doom the Spiders on Sunday.
danaandvictory
02-26-2010, 01:58 PM
Our visitor just doesn't get it. The identity of the team Xavier is playing on Sunday is completely irrelevant. If Fordham was 11-2 in the league, it would be a huge game. If St. Bonaventure was 11-2 in the league, it would be a huge game. If by some miracle Dayton was 11-2 in the league, it would be Armageddon.
Richmond deserves much credit, they've had a great season. But at the end of the day, your smack is pretty irrelevant. We're trying to win a title here. No one cares about your I-AA football championship. No one cares that you beat XU in a completely meaningless game last season. No one cares about Richmond winning at the Cintas Center like nine years ago, except to the extent Kevin Frey almost caused a hilarious riot later that season.
We're about winning championships and success in March. Whoever is in the way of that is the enemy.

Alright, son, I'm going to let you in on something. The reason you haven't gotten any "original piece of spider smack" is because your school is irrelevant in the sports world (spare me your club football championship.) Why would fans of the A10 flagship take time out of their day... until now. Ask and you shall receive.
It's always the same with the "fans" of these other A10 pretenders. They must be dayton disciples, learning how to talk mad shit and then resort back to their holes around this time of the year. This is nothing new, but I suppose you'll need your warm glass of shut the hell up served to you before you stop bringing the weak sauce. It's just like all the A10 clowns. We've never heard from you in the 9 years you've been in our league and we won't hear from you again until your team gives you the false courage it takes to poke the giant again.
Richmond is a nice team this year. It's a shame Mooney won't be around too much longer to see the whole thing develop, but I'll give you this, you guys are getting a STEAL in Cedrick Lindsay next year. That kids should be going to the Big East or ACC and if he doesn't bolt with Mooney to wherever he goes after this season or next, you guys will have a hell of a guard down in that disgusting town of yours. Btw, I'm the first to talk shit about Cincinnati, but there is no way anyone from Richmond should be looking down on anything other than perhaps Baghdad, North Korea, or Cleveland. Richmond is absolutely gross.
I love this. Yea, Xavier has learned so much from Richmond this year, thanks. Actually, don't flatter yourself because we run all over SEC teams every year. Your fans probably don't know that seeing as to how this is the first year college basketball has been worth watching for them in over a decade.
As for the biggest game of the year comment, yes, this is "probably" your biggest game of the year, but don't insult the flagship. Our biggest games don't come until the second weekend of the NCAA tournament, which I'll let the Richmond fans know does, in fact, exist. Sure, this game is likely for at least a share of the A10 Title, and God knows we enjoy collecting those, but at the end of the day your guys will be just another group of tall kids boarding a bus out of Cincinnati with bitter tastes in your mouths. Winning at Cintas is not an option. My suggestion is that you accept that now, get your hands on a few painkillers and a bottle of that Schlitz, and try to make Sunday half savor-able. It was still a really nice year for your redneck fans whom I vividly remember for their inbred behavior back in 2002 down at your dump, and you should all be proud that your season will end nobly with a loss to a 5 or 6 seed rather than against GW or St. Bonaventure.
Next time bring real smack talk and not that weak shit that we always get. Show some originality. We don't owe that to you but you certainly owe it to us, being The Show and all.

I love how the wanna-be's come on here and try to think they'll actually compete with us. Xavier is the three time defending A-10 champs, and we're learning from Richmond? A team that's most well know for an upset over Indiana that happened before most of their fans were born? That's rich.

What you should be embarrassed about is that your only response to the last several posts, which you called out and asked for, have been:
A.) We lost to a team that two ACC teams lost to
B.) I'm not surprised I'm not popular
If you want to send a more worthy representative, perhaps your Queen Spider, go ahead. You fail.

Let me point a few things out to Mr. Octo Leg.
-Your team's best wins all came on neutral courts in arenas that were full of empty seats like on S. Padre Island.
-Your big win against Florida was not achieved in Gainesville, but in Sunrise, Fl. with an attendance that was "not announced".
-Your team in road games against respectable teams sucks- except for the "blind squirrel finding an acorn" win against Rhodee.
-You lost at St. Louis.
-Xavier beat Florida in Gainesville in front of a screaming crowd on ESPN.
-Xavier beat Charlotte in Charlotte in front of a screaming crowd.
-Xavier beat St. Loooie at their place- in front of a screaming crowd.
-Xavier is playing you in our building- in front of our screaming crowd.
So thanks for being another audition act for The Show. The Show goes on and those who play cameo appearances in The Show are left on the cutting room floor.

Don't honor this post by responding (even though I am :D). Obviously the free throw disparity is a byproduct of Xavier's attacking style and Richmond's affinity for jump shooting (as evidenced by their bevy of 3's )

Hey it's cool, I love you guys too. I'm actually pretty impressed with the hatred I have attracted through some pretty low-key posts. It's all good, because I know you'll be on my side Thursday when we pound Dayton into the NIT.
I am a little more worried about today's game now, because judging from your roll call thread, it looks like you'll have at least 200 or 300 fans there.
Eight Legger,
The Robins Center holds 9,071 capacity...How many games has Richmond sold out this year? The Cintas Center holds 10,250 and there were 10,250 in the seats yesterday...We average over 10,000 fans per game...For someone who fills the place to capacity almost every game, the 1 game I saw from the Spiders on tv was the Temple game and your game was not even sold out...That is pathetic.
I'm being honest. You guys all said our JV team would be lucky to keep it within 20 in Cincy, so I was very pleased that we could play so well in a terribly hostile environment. I am anxious for the rematch.
I'm not sure who said anything about a JV Richmond team getting blown out. You should be pleased by the way your team played. They shot very well and came as close to beating us at Cintas as anyone has during our streak. Richmond is a very nice team, but you're not the flagship.
I'll be honest, I'd like to avoid a rematch. Something about rematches in Atlantic City has not been on our side.

Last week marked the first time since the 1950's Richmond was ranked in the top 25 for 2 consecutive weeks. While we are not currently ranked, you don't have to dig very deep into the history of our program to find the last time Xavier was ranked back to back weeks.
Richmond is a nice little squad from Virginia. They are having a nice season and Mooney has done wonders to turn that program around.
But for the love of D'artagnan, you must realize you are Richmond and we are Xavier. You can't compete with "The Show".
