View Full Version : Stephenson Likely to Return to UC for Next Season

Thoughts?
I don't think he will be back at UC.

The longer he stays and the longer Mick coaches him, the less and less like a NBA-type player he becomes.
I think he would be wise to test the waters without an agent to see what he can do in the pre-draft camps. Cronin has not done him any favors at UC (not that that is his job).

Truthfully, he should go. Yes, this would be nice as an X fan because we wouldn't have to see him again. But, I just don't see how he can grow much more there. Stephenson will be a year older (critical for the elusive NBA "potential"), UC will probably be worse next year, he already leads Big East freshman in scoring, Cronin might be gone, and if Cronin isn't gone he is still getting coached by Mick Cronin.

There is so much time in between to change his mind.
I'm not sure why he wouldn't test after this year.

He'd be a superstar for the Yakima Sun Kings.

Testing the waters will almost be non-existent. You will either go or you will not. The NBA moved the deadline up 5 weeks to May 8th. It used to be June 15th. Players will not be able to travel to NBA camps or try out for teams and then withdraw like before. They will only have about 2 weeks to decide to come back or stay in the draft so you will probably see less guys declare and the majority of the ones that do will stay in.

If I were Stephenson, I would just take a hike after this year. He should just accept his 0-1 mark and not travel into the inevitable 0-2 abyss. I'm sure Vaughn hasn't particularly enjoyed being 1-3 in the shootout. And I'm no UC fan, so I don't know names, but any junior on that squad is 0-3 right now, heading straight for 0-4 with lots of momentum. Ouch.

Does this mean he'll have to take more than 3 credit hours?

Per Draft Express....

Round: 2 Pick: 9 in 2010 Mock Draft
Rank 51 in Top 100 Prospects
Rank 19 in NCAA Freshmen

That's a good question. I wonder what his academic situation is. Obviously he was not planning on being at UC for more than 1 year
I wouldn't pimut much stock in that answer. How is he supposed to answer that question other than to say he'll be back? Lots of underclassmen say they're staying and then leave. No player would ever say he is leaving during the season.

DC, Wall and Calipari have both already said publicly that Wall is gone (http://www.kentucky.com/2010/01/24/1108941/wall-to-nba-i-really-have-no-choice.html)after this season. So guys do say their intentions during the season on occasion.
My guess is Stephenson, Gates, and Crawford are all gone this year. One thing I think being over looked right now is the likely NBA lockout in the 2011-2012 season (http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/02/10/veteran-players-believe-nba-lockout-more-likely-than-not/), so guys who stay this year are taking the chance of waiting 2 years before they can go.

I think Lance is gone because he can't afford to let Mick ruin his stock even further. Just cut your losses, impress at workouts and camps, and hope to get drafted.
He could also entertain a 1 year deal in Europe to play against some good competition and at the same time not have to play for a coach who barely comes up to his waist.

Lance listens and respects Cronin. If he says he should come back he will.
Yancy will not go and has never mentioned it.
Lance is a mature guy for only being 19. He is not at all how be wanted to make him out to be.
Lance is taking as many credit hours as anyone else and is holding a 3.5 GPA. Keep trying to bring this kid down but he won't let anyone do that. He has a bright future.

It sure as heck doesn't look like it when he's in the huddles for timeouts. I bet Lance's dad can't be too happy with how things have turned out so far at UC.

Nancy is in no one's conversation to go.
It's not like he has a whole lot of options other than to stay. Who on earth thinks that a lazy player like that who can't even stay on the court in a crucial game has enough stuff to go get paid anywhere? Certainly no scouts.
Nothing like pumping up your guy when there is no substance to pump.

If my coach blew stinky monkey nuts like Mick Cronin does I would be friggin gone so fast his head would spin!
Seriously though, What are you sticking around for? You aren't going to make the tournament next year and your coach hasn't developed a single player in his 4 year tenure. That program is like a black hole where talented players go to disappear.

I don't see him getting drafted. He hasn't performed consistently @ at that level yet. Nancy couldn't go. He sucks. Getting advise from Mick is a joke. He sucks as a coach.

Lance does not respect Cronin. Hardly anyone on the team does and that is part of their problem.
His future dims every day he remains a player under Cronin.
