“…a charm doll created by an American art teacher and illustrator, Ms. Florence Pretz of Kansas City, Missouri, who is said to have seen the mysterious figure in a dream. In 1908 she patented the Billiken who was elf-like with pointed ears, a mischievous smile, and a tuft a hair on his pointed head.”

The incarnation slightly to the east is known as the "Cronin".

Except the original version was a little taller (and probably would have made a better coach).

And it had a tuft of hair.

Some say the Billiken bears a great resemblance to a former SLU football coach.

By the way, I am sure some of you know the first ever forward pass was thrown by SLU. Not only that but they actually perfected it.

Actually, this thing looks more like the current UC coach.

When people asked me what the Billiken is, I said it was a popular doll that SLU adopted as their mascot. Think of Furby as a modern equivalent. What would you think if a college adopted Furby as their mascot?

The tradition of rubbing the Billiken's stomach for good luck has been "extended" to Majerus.

Dont rub that staue. Kids pee on that thing every weekend. Maybe not so much now since it has been moved to right outside the arena but when it was in the middle of campus near the clocktower and drunk college kids were stumbling home from the bars they used to piss on the belly.

I hope you're talking about the actual statue and not Majerus.

I'd be willing to bet Majerus wouldn't mind, though. From some of the things I've heard, he's into that kinky stuff.
