Who would you guys vote for A10 coach of the year? I dont know how to do a poll, that would probably be a good way to do it though.

I think you automatically have to look at the coaches of the top 6 ranked teams in the conference:

Xavier
Temple
Richmond
SLU
Charlotte
URI

Anyone know if the voting is based on the whole season or how the the teams did in conference? I would think whole season but maybe it weighs more on the voters minds if a team did really well in conference.

Now I am also only generally aware of how well a team was supposed to do and who they lost and all that stuff but here are my top 4 for coach of the year in no particular order:

Mack, Majerus, Mooney, Dunphy

I think those 4 are the serious contenders. Baron might have been #1 if they hadnt started to struggle and Lutz and Charlotte have been on a bad streak.

Majerus has the OOC record against him but he is 9-3 in the A10 with the youngest team in the country.

Mack has XU tied for second after losing BJ, CJ, and Brown.

Mooney has Richmond in first place. Not sure if Richmond was supposed to contend or not but it doesnt matter either way.

Dunphy has Temple ranked in the top 25 and tied for 2nd in the A10. Temple I dont think was picked too terribly high in the A10 and Dunphy has had Temple playing very well all season and in the Top 25 for a good portion of the season.

Thoughts?

I think Mack and Majerus have to be the front runners.

With having the youngest team in the country and being in third place (1/2 game behind second and 1 1/2 out of first) in the 6th best conference I think Majerus might be the winner. The biggest detriment is that SLU was rough early on and wont make the NCAA tourney (slim chance without a tourney championship), but he has his team playing great in A10 play.

I am also a little biased to Majerus. (And Mack) :D

Hey DWest.

How old are those Australian guys that Rick recruited? Are they older?

Brian Gregory...it takes a lot of coaching to get the terrible results from so much talent

UD beat Xavier this year, so as far as many Flyer fans are concerned it was a successful season. I vote Brian Gregory. Oh, and stop me if you've heard this one before, but he has his most talented recruiting class ever coming in next season.

I dont know for sure.

Both went to the Australian Institute for Sport but I dont know if that is a high school or a sort of prep school.

Both are freshman eligibility wise and neither looks much older than 18/19, especially Ellis. I cannot say for sure though if they came in as 18 yr olds like most.

I think many of the coaches have done a bang up job, particularly Rick Majerus.

That said if we can win this thing I would give my homer vote to Coach Mack. I am happy with the way he has the team playing right now and I am eager to win the Atlantic 10 again.

Saint Louis is going to be good. Heck, they are good right now.

Ya I agree. That would most likely require us to beat SLU at SLU. The picture will obviously become more clear as the A10 season finishes up. My intent was for more of a right now kind of thing as it is too big of a guessing game to predict how the A10 finishes up.

I am just excited for SLU to be in the NIT hopefully, considering they have not been in any post season tournamnet in the previous 5 years I have been a SLU student.

URI wasn't supposed to be very good, so I'll give Barron props for that. But they have faded recently, so he doesn't get my vote.

Richmond was expected to be solid, but for me it was an "I'll believe when I see it" scenario. Well, now I see it. If Richmond wins the regular season title Mooney gets serious consideration.

Chrs Mack inherited a team in flux, and has delivered. Similar to Mooney, if we win the regular season title Mack deserves a serious look. But it seems the conference is tilted against Xavier in regards to personal awards, so I won't hold my breath.

Maerus has brought SLU out of nowhere in conference play. I think he is the frontrunner for the award as of today.

Considering his big mouth this season, I don't give him even a restwoom key. Let him use a towel.
For me it's Mack, Mooney and Dunphy. :D:D:D
