Nice article giving us an inside peek at college basketball referees. Yes, they make bad calls at times but it is good to remember they're just human.
yes, humans with pigeon sh*t in their eyes

I would hate to be a ref. I have really worked over the years not to get too caught up in what they do in a game. It's hard, no doubt.
But I just found some of the things Higgins said to be funny. I don't doubt they go out and try to do the best they can, but really, how can you travel, and work a game every night and not think that effects you somehow? You just have to concentrate for two hours? Is that all? You're twice as old and twice as fat as the people you're concentrating on. This isn't study hall.

When my wife, my parents, my oldest daughter and I were in the Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam a few years ago, we ended up sitting at a table next to one of the refereeing crews doing the tournament (along with their wives) at a restaurant in Charlotte Amalie. We struck up a conversation with them and joked about how tough it could be reffing. They were apparently some SEC refs, but I believe 1-2 of them have done some X games in the past few years since the tourney. It was interesting talking to them off the court, as it provided me with more of the sense that they are only human and prone to mistakes like the rest of us.
All that being said, had it been John Cahill, I may have still punched him in the face.
