Could make for a major shake up in many conferences allowing XU to leave or restructure the A-10.

Why would Texas go to the Big 10? Because they make by far the most money of any conference.

Some people believe the SEC is the richest and that isn't true. He are soem figures for the football TV deals:

Big Ten: $242 million
SEC: $205 million
Big 12: $78 million
ACC: $67 million
Pac 10: $58 million
Big East: $33 million

Not too mention the Big Ten makes more in merchandise and attendance.

It is going to happen. Texas wants it worse than anybody.

My view of all this "smoke", is that there is only one program the Big 10 really wants, and it aint Pitt or Mizzou or Syracuse or Texas.

If it does happen (not likely), you'd just see Memphis move to the Big 12. If Pitt goes to the Big Ten, Memphis would slide to the Big East.

Memphis is just waiting for something to happen. They're ready to move to the Big East or Big 12 if and when a spot opens. They've already made it known they will up their football commitment to the BCS standard.

I don't see any way how a BCS shakeup will effect the A10. Not with Memphis packed and ready to go.

I don't think Memphis is exactly a shoo-in for the Big East if a spot opens up. I don't think they'd have a shot in hell at getting into the Big XII.

the big ten is making so much money in large part because of their tv network. the big twelve is also looking into getting one. actually, the state of texas is looking into getting one. texas can make that kind of money without going to the big ten if either happens. that's not to say they won't go, but it isn't a necessity.

i don't think the texas to the big ten rumors are not just smoke, i believe they're real. i've also heard that the big ten is exploring expanding even further than that to either 14 or 16 teams. the fact that they have their own network means that more teams equals more exclusive broadcast rights. texas may not make geographic sense, but they make television sense. the big ten will be on more cable line-ups than it's on already if texas joins, and that means more money for the league.

the could really shake up the big east as well, because they'd probably raid the big east. i suspect they'd look closely at rutgers and syracuse to get the nyc/ny state market.

some of these conferences are beginning to seem like the cities in the isaac asimov robot novels. these hugely bloated empires that dwarf and encompass everything else.

fwiw, i don't think texas will end up going....but it's not an impossibility. it's actually very possible, and i wouldn't be at all surprised if they did. this is not just a bunch of smoke.

i really don't think it would be memphis.

if texas does leave, texas a&m might go with them if the big ten looks to expand beyond 12 and into 14 or 16.

the pac ten is also looking at expanding, and colorado is apparently one of the schools they're looking at. now, before anyone asks, i have no idea why colorado would be of interest to the pac ten. they're not on the west coast, the independence bowl is considered a successful season, and basketball is more or less just a rumor out there....but they're interested in the buffs nonetheless. air force would actually make more sense if that's the market the pac ten wants because it's better academically, and athletically they've actually had more success in football and basketball over the past 10+ years...but i digress.

i guess what' i'm saying is that it's very possible the big twelve will lose more than one team, and if they do they may not look to add anybody. they may just continue on as a one division conference of ten or nine schools. if they do look to expand, they probably won't look to memphis. coloardo state is a much more likely candidate than memphis. maybe air force is too. if air force isn't a likely candidate, i sure as hell think they're a better one. i just don't think memphis would interest the big twelve that much.

Houston or TCU would make more sense to the Big 12 than Memphis.

Memphis would go to the Big Greased, however.

In either event, Xavier wouldn't be moving. If Charlotte does go ahead with football, they'd be moving to CUSA.

Arkansas to the BigXII makes more sense and will happen before Memphis. USF would be invited to the SEC before Memphis.

I think if Texas leaves the Big 12, Arkansas takes the Longhorns' place. At that point, the SEC will raid the ACC for one of its members and then the ACC will grab another Big East member. Memphis will then have a shot at the Big East but I would bet that E. Carolina and Central Florida have at least as good a shot at the BE as Memphis (or maybe even better).

I agree with you 100% Worse case for the Big XII the Big Ten takes Texas, A&M, and Mizzou along with the Pac X adding Utah and Colorado.

The Big XII needs four more teams. In steps Houston, TCU, Boise/BYU, and former Southwest Conferance member Arkansas. Adding Houston and TCU hold you somewhat strong in Texas Media Markets, BYU would add Salt Lake to offset the loss of Denver. Little Rock would offset the loss of St Louis.

The SEC being one short raids the Big East for South Florida. This fits their geographic foot print and brings in a football and basketball programs that would be the most competitive of the Big East or ACC teams that are in the region and would be willing to move. I do not see Fla allowing The U or FSU in, and do not see UGA allowing GT in.

The Big East is one down and makes a power play to get to 12 football schools. The Big East adds East Carolina, Central Florida, Memphis, Temple, and either Charlotte or subsidizes Villanova moving from FCS to FBS. The Big East makes this play out of fear os losing out on revenue and possibly their BCS auto bid.

This would put the Big East at 20 teams and would force a break up which would mean a better conference for Xavier, Dayton, St Joe and the lot.

The ACC would remain untouched.

I have a question. If Texas would leave the Big XII for money. Why would Arkansas walk away from a ton of money to go to the Big XII? Philosophically, they might consider themselves more of a Big XII school, but they would lose a ton in the move.

I have heard on a couple of occasions that Arkansas would entertain an invite from the BigXII. There is no method to my mayhem, the ramblings of someone with to much coffee
