Interesting article in the Very-Plain Dealer this morning about the Luckeyes basketball attendance woes. Two salient points:
A) The men's b-ball program will lose $350,000 this year.
B) Beaknose and Gene Smith disagree on non-conference scheduling.
Ol' Beaky wants to chicken out and is "worried about getting some wins early in the season for what have been young teams." Smith "sounds like he wants better draws". Way to build up that win total against the pastry cart, Toucan. You even lost to a marginal North Carolina team. But, what the hell. The voters in the polls are fooled so you can just keep faking them out.

Fans aren't interested in watching teams demolish these pattsies that they load their non conference schedules with in order to assure that they make the NCAA Tournament every year. I have the same problem with Xavier. Most of the home non conference games that they schedule will put you to sleep.

Really? A problem with X? There is a balance. You want quality teams but you want wins. I mean next year X gets WF, Butler, and Florida at Home.
This year we had UC and nobody thought LSU would be world beaters, but didn't think they'd be last in the SEC when scheduled. And then we have teams like Kent this year (top 100 RPI). I know that Sacred Heart and Youngstown were horrible but they were warm ups. OSU played 7 plus 200 RPI non conference games. And 2 were plus 300.

i believe the cheapest ticket is $27, and that is to sit in the back of a rather large arena. with all of the games being on tv, and with the atmosphere at the schott being half as exciting as that of a sports bar (seriously), i'd stay home too.
the price goes up, attendance goes down, and ohio state is puzzled. i for one don't see what's so puzzling about it.

That is because you are educated with much better developed critical thinking skills than those of an OSU administrator.

They had an article earlier in the year about OSU's crappy scheduling with the main point basically being that Ohio State should start a home and home series with some of the other power in state programs. The author mentioned Ohio State is probably too scared to because of recruiting in the state but that it would benefit the fans.
