That's what i'm talkin' about!!!
I was hoping someone would make this thread, because what kind of message board has now super bowl thread.
Either way, whoever wins this game, I will be satisfied.
I think Manning deserves it, and I think the city of New Orleans deserves it.

Garrett Hartley looking good for Super Bowl MVP if the Saints can pull it out. Wonder what the Vegas odds were on that before the game.

I just can't stop crying. The people of New Orleans have gone through so much. But now they aren't just victims. They are Super Bowl Champs.
God, I hate the NFL.

I really didn't care about who won this game. I liked watching both teams play all year. I like Drew Brees a lot. I like Peyton Manning. I can't stand Reggie Bush or Jeremy Shockey. I love the story of the Saints sucking for so long and the city sticking behind them, and then the story of what the Saints have done for the city since Katrina. Indy is close to home. There were lots of reasons to root for either team. Congrats to the Saints. It was a good show, I thought. This takes one more team off that damn list of Super Bowlless teams that the Bengals are still on. I freakin' hate Joe Montana. and I hate Jerry Rice, too. and Bill Walsh. And Ronnie Lot. I could ramble on and on, but I'll stop there.

Wow, Peyton Maninning is human. I always thought he was kind of a robot. Big Farvesque pick on the tying drive and calling a timeout to basically blow any chance they had even if they scored.

By computer, I mean Manning.
I thought the greatest moment after the win was seeing Drew Brees and his son. Drew Brees is my main man.

Congrats to the Saints. Drew Brees is class. (Shockey not so much).
I didn't see any shots of Kim Kardashian, so that's disappointing.
Commercial Talk:
Agreed, yet I did like the bark collar.
My favorite commercials were the Denny's screaming chickens commercials.
Side note: I was also expecting something a lot more overt and blatant with all the hullaballoo over the Tim Tebow ad...

Gotta love the Phil Simms advice to the Saints to NOT blitz on the TD play. Greg Williams is the Saints MVP. The Saints have always been able to move the ball since Brees has been in town. Williams gave them enough of an edge on D to totally transform the team.

That was a helluva game. It was nice to watch a game and not really care who won because you liked both teams. Great for the city on New Orleans.
The e-trade commercials were the highlight of the evening - mikla-what?

That was a solid game on both sides of the ball. Very few penalties, played virtually spotless (except for the obvious). I loved that N.O. took so many chances, they played balls out all the way and that's how I like fooooball to be played. It kept Indy on their heels a lot of the game.
As for the commercials...Meh. GoDaddy needs to go away, the talking babies have run their course, and I can't really think of any one that stuck out in my mind as better than any of the other. Maybe the Bud Light voice imodulation commercial, or the screaming chickens....
Nah, gotta go with the Miller High Life commercial giving their commercial to the real small businesses. I liked that one.

Instant replay rules.
I have to say, the way I understood the rule about a catch when going to the ground, I thought that replay was going to go the other way. At full speed, I didn't see the receiver establish control of the ball.
It was an interesting call. I think if the same catch was made at the 50, it would have been ruled uncomplete.

At the 50 it should have been a catch and a fumble.

What is the correct response when you're at someone's house watching a game, and it's clear something about their hi-def tv is not set up correctly? I felt like I was watching XU on Fox Sports. I just kept my mouth shut.

Well the Colt just did not play too well today, mostly due to good D by the Saints and a heck of a game by Brees and the Saints Offense. The score of the game does not do justice to how close this game really was. If the Colt made a few plays and Manning did not throw th e interception who knows.
The Saints were the better team today no doubt. Not a good sports weekend for an X Fan living in Indy.
Congrats Saints.
Peace.

The way it was explained on TV, he was juggling it initially but established control with the 2nd move to break the plane. At that point, he had control and the 2-point conversion. It WOULD have been incomplete had it occurred on any other place in the field. I didn't think it would be overturned given the initial call, but it was absolutely worth risking a timeout at that point to challenge the call.

That explanation makes no sense to me. How can you have possession without a completed pass?

I think it was a catch. He bobbled the ball, restablished control, and was down with the ball across the goal line. The Colt player kicked the ball out of his hands, but by that time the play was over. The replay people got it right.
In coach-speak, the Saints wanted it more.
At great personal risk, I give you.........The Who.
Deaf (Townshend) Dumb (but still sort of Tony Bennett-handsome --Daltry) but not yet blind kids still play the mean pinball.
I'm not as old as Townshend, but pretty close to Daltry. So I'm old, and it is My Generation. I still like a guitar hero who can kick out the jams live, no flashpots, no lipsych.
Was slightly stunned and then pleased at the crowd's strong singin on the chorus of Baba O'Riley.
I made a pilgrimage in the 70s to the pub in Shepherd's Bush, London where they started smashing equipment. It was a divey, hardscrabble pub. Workin class lads.

I think you're right. At first, I thought "Wow, people are signing along...and they're loud." But after it happened a few times, it did seem to be "synched."
Kahns Krazy
02-08-2010, 04:51 PM
I think it's really hard to tell now when live performances are lip synced. The nature of digital transmissions, compressions, dvr's, etc, means that the video and audio on your tv might not always be 100% on. Add in some wireless mic's on stage, and it's just going to get worse. I was watching the Grammys thinking that most of the performances seemed lip synced, but I just can't believe that to be the case.
I just don't get why you'd drag The Who out there if they can't sing their own songs.

I enjoyed the Who's halftimes show. The performers seemed to have a good time, the crowd seemed to have a good time, the lights and lasers were pretty cool, and it was the freaking Who!
Its not a coincidence they were asked to play on CBS's Super Bowl broadcast with CBS's success with the three CSI's.

The Who are one of my all-time favorite bands - the were in their prime in the 70's when i was just a kid. "Hooligans" was one of the first albums I bought - older brothers had a bunch of the earlier stuff.
I loved seeing Townshend and Daltrey out there. Those guys may be old but they still put on a great show - rock the way it was meant to be played. The laser show was pretty impressive but the music is timeless. If the kids don't know about them well at least they got a small sampling last night.

Saw The Who at Municipal Stadium. Summer of '90 if I recall correctly. Their first Old Geezer tour. They constructed a little box for deaf Townsend to play in. Came up from Sandusky with friends who dropped acid. They were completely asleep by the time the Who took the stage.
Beforehand I got really stoned at some apartment where the hosts had a couple black labs named Dixon and Minniefield. Cleveland makes Dayton look like shangri-la.
Also, solo Townsend is vastly underrated. I have Scoop 1 and 2, Empty Glass and All the Best Cowboys have Chinese Eyes on my MP3. His live album(Deep End?) has a lively rendition of "Barefootin'." There is a pretty good DVD that goes along with that live album. His version of "After the Fire" is much better than Daltrey's.

You're correct - the live album is "Deep End" and it's great. He does a fantastic version of "Save it for Later." The album is finally on itunes - for years it wasn't on there. His "Scoop" albums are also pretty good. White City is also a great album - probably his best solo work.
Love The Who, and it was neat to see them on stage again, but I think it was 'synched.
Wags, don't disillusion me. Old Rockers who can still sing and play their own tunes standing up, and the Beer Thread, are all I have to hang on to.

You are correct, ResearchBreath. I was under the incorrect impression Townshend was approaching 70, he's actually younger. Mea culpa. I'm closer to Townshend.
I missed (and in retrospect, gladly so) my only good chance to see The Who in 79. I had tickets, but a previous experience with "festival seating" and the incompetents who were letting kids pile up at the doors of Riverfront (please don't make me tell you who was playing!) lead me to scalp.

800,000 people attended the Super Bowl parade yesterday in New Orleans. The parade was roughly 4 to 5 hours long. Brees and crew regularly got off of the float to mingle with the crowd. In a town known for huge parades, this one topped them all. There were a ton of kids along the parade route, and the police enforced a very strict "no flashing" policy, so it wasn't your usual New Orleans parade at all.
