#7 in the country goes east, wallops GW. They picked up a win on the Colonials court for the first time in over a decade. Any coverage?

Thought the same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus where are the radio stations I understand they don't have to talk for 3 hrs of women's basketball but they could at least give the score and a little props to the lady's.

CH 9 blows too. Last night they mentioned the score, nothing else. On Tuesday they lead off the news by mentioning that the UC women had a landmark win over Louisville and made a huge deal about it. Then I looked and realized Louisville has lost 11 games. Are you kidding me?

Did you happen to catch the Crosstown? That team beating anyone was quite the accomplishment.

It's pretty hard to criticize the media for not covering the team when very few people have enough interest to even attend the games.

They'll just mention it's not in their budget to cover the regular season road games. National Signing Day for football and other prep sports was a bigger priority in the paper today, sadly.
If you wanted to do an article on anything, I'd love to know about the fall of GW since Joe McKeown went to Northwestern. I couldn't dream that GW would suddenly be on the A-10 Tournament bubble in 2 seasons.

What's the deal Shannon?
I know you spent the day in Mass coveraing the Xu men's game but what's the deal with the Enq. Xavier women are #7 in the country and they're win over GW, the first in over a decade on that court, merits no mention in the Enquirer???
Wake up the fat old guys smoking their cigars in the daily coverage meetings. There's no excuse for a big town paper to just push women's sport under the carpet.

Not sure what happened there; must have been an oversight. You can email editor Josh Pichler with any coverage questions or comments.

Terry – Thanks for your note. We provided a link to the Xavier web site from last night’s games with the details. We should have also posted an AP story and made it easier to find.
I agree this is an important story. On Tuesday, we ran a story from Shannon across the top of our sports page with the No. 7 ranking. Going into this year we knew we had to do a better job covering the UC and XU women, and we need to be more consistent.
Thanks again for your note and feedback.

By the way "xuwin" the job of the media is not to just cover those things that are popular, but to cover those things that are important and interesting. That includes the sports department. You become a good media outlet by presenting stories on things that open the eyes of the viewer/reader, things that add something new to the reader/viewer, give them something new to think about. New,,, get it, hence the word News.

Great job XU-PA. We can always count on you to get on the media! Bravo!

Oh, beware of things to come. People this is now a one-paper town. The powers at Gannett are forcing employees to take two, or maybe now it's three, weeks of unpaid leave if they want to keep their jobs.
If you think the coverage is bad for the women with just a little write up taken from the wires, remember you were warned some years back when this was a two paper town what coverage would be like today.
And with the decline in newspapers these days, it will get worse before it gets better. The daily sports section of the Enquirer is barely six pages and is roughly 65% (estimate) ads.
Look for future cost cutting measures to include cutting road game coverage for all sports --at first possibly only Xavier but then UC. Where possible they'll use Gannett stringers but when not, they'll use wire.
You'll also see an increase in blog editions updated every few hours. Much simpler.
The days of full-scale features, profiles of players who are "hot" (In terms of performance) are almost gone. And the Reds, Bengals and everyone will be included in the slashes. (See Hal McCoy and the DD as a prime example.)
If you seriously look at most daily editions of the Enquirer sports sections, there is not enough to read to get you through a good morning defecation.:D:D:D

Q, your post is written as a prediction but I'd contend that it's well under way. The Enquirer is less a local paper than it is a conduit for AP articles, court hearing reports and police blotter notes. The only thing that hasn't happened yet is the complete disappearence of local non-professional sports. Most of the really good articles I've read on their web site seem to be reprints from elsewhere.

You don't hide your disdain for the current state of the media very well "Q". You are 100 percent correct. It's happened in other media in Cincinnati. I was a WKRC newsman when they were bought up by Jacor. They fired us all and proceeded to destroy what was a pretty competitive radio news biz in Cincinnati. Now what do you get for news on radio?? Nada. It's an shame that print is following suit. I'm surprised they get any ads in the sports section now. I'm in the middle of a survey or sorts of our locals up here in Maine. Horrible stuff, but there is still some local coverage. The problem here is that for the most part they just rip AP for articles on the patriots, celtics, bruins and red sox all year long, they don't realize how easy it is for us to get better coverage on those teams from tv and the web. But the advertisers have taken notice here, on average maybne 3 very small display ads in the sport section, not sure how they justify the salaries of reporters for that little bit of ad change.
You know, if it was just softer paper, you could get through your morning duty with the enquirer!

XU-PA, you probably used to work with my uncle....He was at KRC for quite some time (I think even when they were bought out by Jacor).....I know he doesn't have many nice things to say about the industry nowadays....He's still has a weekly show (I think WUBE now), but I know he had bounced around quite a bit (WGRR and 96.5 when it was briefly a talk station). Current media is definitely in the crapper.
