Huggins went into the student section to encourage them to be respectful. Yeah, right. Like that's real believable.

I'm glad that espn mentioned this in the article:

"The 2008 film "The Express" about Syracuse star Ernie Davis depicted West Virginia fans shouting racial slurs and throwing trash at Davis and other players during the 1959 season, even though Syracuse didn't play at Morgantown that year. Veterans from both teams say the incident never happened."

I am from the neighboring town from which Ernie Davis came from, Elmira. I am too young to understand how great Ernie was and everything about him, but he won the heisman and was drafted by the Cleveland Browns. Unfortunately, he died from Leukemia. It is a great movie, although many people thought that parts of the movie were fake.

I've been to Morgantown before. What a bunch of hicks.

West Virginia coach Bob Huggins grabbed a microphone and addressed the fans a short time later after several objects were thrown on the court, telling the crowd "That's stupid."

Trust me when I say Bob knows stupid.

Damn. Those rednecks down there won't let up. What a bunch of selfish, unclassy hicks. Why would they throw things on their own court? I don't think they are going to change unless the school or ncaa steps in and proposes some serious consequences. Sending letters to the students doesn't qualify.

How about requiring all WV fan show up to games in a suit, a suit just like Bob's mustard yellow suit?

Some fans actully have showed up in a suit in response to receiving letters from WV officials.

Slurs and throwing things have no place at the game...but if Pitino doesn't want to be harassed, he shouldn't have slept with the women outside of his marriage.

Pitino is a dick

Other than that, the WVU fans are hicks

When Huggs goes into the crowd to calm the fans down they WVA fans should start chanting: Mrs. Wyler, Mrs. Wyler, Whiite Lexus, Whitte Lexus. Really, Huggs teaching good manners.

WVU has to be hampered in that they're a state school - there's probably free speech issues involved somewhere. Let's not forget that you could just say "You suck" and Chief Couch would be looking to throw someone out at Cintas.

In fairness, the St. Joe's cheerleaders threw balls into the stands during the A-10 championship at US Bank Arena and we threw them back. But that was intended to be cheeky, not spiteful.

I mean...throwing things with the intent of disrupting the game or injury (coins are meant for those purposes)

Nice comment. Many people have come to Xavier from WV, me included. Also people like Skip Prosser and Floyd Deaton spent alot of time in WV before coming to X.

To make such a foolish, ignorant flame just shows you are on the same level as the WVU fans.

I thought the problem at the A10 Tournament was that the St. Joes cheerleaders were SUPPOSED to be tossing A10 T-shirts into the stands, and instead, substituted St. Joe's shirts. Then they threw them into the lower bowl stands which were largely populated by Xavier fans. I was in one of those prime lower bowl sections just a few rows off the court.

I can still recall the exchange:
St. Joes cheerleaders throw t-shirts into the stands
Fans open up t-shirts and realize they are St. Joes shirts
Fans toss roll up shirts and toss them back onto the court
PA Guy implores fans not to throw trash onto the court.
Fans around me hollered back "Then don't throw trash into the stands"

Say what you will about Huggins and his past personal conduct, but how many other Div I head coaches have taken time they COULD have been using coaching their team to give the FANS a tounge lashing? Embarassing for the program, particularly after the tOSU game and the Lousiville game. Though apparently not unprecedented since it says visiting football teams come out of the tunnel with helmets on to prevent head ijnury from thrown objects. Imagine if WVU was in the SEC, I mean South Carolin got slapped with a 25,000 fine when their students rushed the court after the UK game. Imagine if WVU was in a league that actually had fan behavior standards such as that and could punish WVU for those kinds of actions. A little bit of humor or classlessness is fine, when your program gets to be known for having the most obnoxious and vulgar fans on the other hand. Said fans plan on coming to the next game in suits since they were told to show some class... Sarcasm at its finest.

Don't think we are totally innocent - I have observed for example when the "UC SUCKS!" chant started in the student section, Fr. Graham looked over to the students with an icy stare that said "CUT IT OUT, NOW!"

To make a backhand remark about the whole state of WV is foolish. I was born and raised there so I take offense to it. You may not but I do. Hence my comment which I stand behind 110%.

Actually the issue was that it was an X-Box promotion, and St. Joes Cheerleaders, being the home team, were in charge of the promotion. So they were throwing X-box tshirts into the crowd that happened to be black, which our fans mistook for St. Joes Tshirts.

Hell, I "believe" I noticed the students at the ud game with a certain phrase painted on their bodies that when they stood properly spelled a nice "greeting" to dayton. Thought it was so cool that I took pic with cell phone cam. We all did it, just not like the WVU students who throw things on the court. I know I have yelled curse words, still find myself doing it at times now!

If you are doing something that would embarrass Huggins, you REALLY need to examine your behavior. I'm pretty sure he has a high embarrassment threshhold.

I like the measures that WV has taken to calm the student section down against villanova tonight.

The announcers said that WV has cameras, extra securtity, WV made announcements to the students, and Huggins made an announcement to the students.

Even crazier is that they have a # anyone who is watching the game can text to if they see someone acting unruly.

The passing is awesome!

I wish Xavier looked this good with the ball. Nova looks sharp up 11 late in the 1st half.
