UC is at the foul line up by 8-9pts and the clock mysteriosly starts for no reason.
What is it with clocks this year at NCAA BB games this year?

UC is lucky to have won this game.
Providence gave em a run at the end.

The line on this game was UC -8.5 points. I do this stupid (awesome to me and my friends) fake money thing on centsports.com. That was the easiest fake money I have ever made.

Easy? UC should have won by 20 if they didn't suck. They were up 12 with 1:30 left in the game and missed about 10 free throws in the last minute. On the other hand if Providence played anything that resembled defense they could have easily won that game being that UC is just not a good basketball team.

Gates shot an air ball at the free throw line. It was about a foot short of the basket. Vaughn couldn't keep from laughing. Gates looks like he is about 30 lbs over weight and gets worse every game.

I was present at the game (UC grad student, free ticks, why not go all the time). The UC guys couldn't make their FT's but that seems irrellevent, since they won (kinda of like Memphis' FT woes didn't hurt them in their Final 2 run). I wonder how much of it is a mental thing. I've heard Mick say in post games they shoot about 85% in practice but when it comes to the game they can't make them. JA Adande also said a similar thing about Shaq, who he claims shoots with perfect form and about 90% when in practice, but when he gets the game he just freezes up. Even Vaughn was missing a lot FTs and he is generally a good FT shooter. I think the scary part of it is that UC put up 92 points while missing over half their FTs.
I will say this much about UC's defense from being present as well as Hoard's post game comments, if you remove the first 5 minutes and last 5 minutes of the game, Providence shot about 33%. I also thought Gates played excellent pick and roll defense. This is stuff that really only makes sense if you are present and watch the game unfold.
Also Higgins was officiating. We almost got lucky at two different times it looked Gates and Stephenson (as well as a couple of Providence players) were ready to rip his head. That would have been a double win, UC losing two of their better players, and the NCAA losing Higgins.
I will say though, Gates is the only player at any level I have ever seen get fatter as the season progressed. In their exhibition games he was lean and cut, and now he is just a blob of fat.

Ahh, there is the big IF. They do suck. Easy money.

I am not sure why you think that UC sucks. They looked pretty damn solid last night. Their offense is what they needed to work on and they found it the last couple of games. Their defense can be, and normally is very good. They have to work on the free throw thing but they are pretty put together now and are in a good position to finish pretty strong. Right now they only have two bad losses.
They could have won by 20 last night but they still won the game and fans were never worried. Providence came out on fire. They hit their first 6 threes, and also two shots from the foul line falling down with a body in their face.
If UC sucks, then who has XU beaten that is good? UC is in 6th place in the Big East right now, not bad. I know it is not 3rd place in the A-10 but it is solid. Does XU have any good wins if UC is not a good win? No they don't. They have nobody good left on their schedule. So when they have their one or two really bad conference losses that they have every year, what will they be leaning on to help them out? The UC win.

Uh Xavier stil has road games at Florida, Dayton and Charlotte and a home game against Richmond. All of those teams are better than UC. Xavier also has beaten Rhode Island, Charlotte and Dayton who are better than UC. Congrats on the 4 point home win against the 12-9 Friars. Keep up the good work.

In post games, you would think Mick is the new John Wooden and is only held back by the fact that (a) the Big East is tougher than the NBA circa 1988, and (b) none of his players pay any attention to his ingenious strategies.

Ok. So when it comes time for the XU to be selected for a seed in the NCAA tournament, you think that UC will not be the biggest win on the schedule? They had it down as the biggest win last year. XU had some chances to win big games and they got UC again.
Regardless, my question was why would any XU fan think that the 6th place team in the Big East sucks when XU has not beaten any better team?
Do not tell me that UD, RI and Charlotte are better than UC. XU took advantage of one opportunity so far and they did have a good win against UD and I will give you RI, I guess. That Florida game would be a decent road win as road games are all good wins. Not sure XU will beat them though. UF is in a position that they have to pretty much win out.

It's actually hilarious. XU played four teams in the regular season last year that were ranked in the Top 10 at some stage in the season -- Missouri, Memphis, Duke, and LSU. And went 3-1.
???, you are a freaking moron. Or Mick Cronin. Or both.
Not even close.
Not even close? Who was it then? They lost to Duke and had the same in conference schedule. They probably played Butler, which is normally a good win for a team. Not sure if they beat Butler or not but UC was the biggest win...again.

Road win @LSU, Memphis, and Missouri all easily were bigger wins than UC last season. Virginia Tech could be argued for as well. Temple.

And last year....here is what happened.
Another sweet 16 for Xavier.....a 4th straight non tournament year for UC...this year will make it 5 straight. HAHAHAHAHA..while Xavier dances again.
How is Mick's 1-18 record in March?

You cannot say with a straight face that UC, who lost to Depaul, was better than Memphis, Dayton, Temple, Missouri and LSU last year, can you? Those teams were all in the NCAA tourney with one going to the elite 8 and another to the sweet 16. UC did not even make the CBI last year.
I am willing to bet that UC finishes no better this year than 8-10 in the Big East. They may get a chance to play in the NIT which is much better than the CBI in my opinion.
