I have been reading various comments by Dayton fans after last night's Chris Wright-lack-of-defense induced last second loss and it hit me: Brian Gregory is Shayne Graham. He is exactly to delusional Dayton fans what Graham is (perhaps this should be was) to delusional Bengals fans. Look at the following common statements:

- He is the most consistent we've had at this position in recent memory
- He does a lot of things well away from games (BG recruiting / SG charity work)
- Most of the year he does great things, but just can't seem to win the big game
- Everything he does has worked in the past, so it is the way toward a successful future
- We need to make efforts to keep him around
- If he goes somewhere else, he will do extremely well and spite us
- He has odd physical features (BG miniature / SG ginger)

Add these commonalities to the "wait until next year" mind set and it is clear that Brian Gregory is Shayne Graham - someone to whom certain fans have unfathomable devotion, but with whom neither team will be able to take the next step.

I think Shayne Graham is a 'party boy' choke artist who needs to be on the next plane out of my city.

I think Brian Gregory is a horrible game coach who I want to see visit the Cintas Center every year for the next 10 years.

I'm down with that program. I love the Midget. He's my favorite non-Xavier coach.

A friend of mine recently commented about how Shayne Graham hit four field goals at Pittsburgh to win a big game. Seems kind of clutch to me.
