To St. Joe's.
That is all -- too funny.

St. Joes played a zone all game and Dayton couldn't shoot, like usual. Xavier should just sit in a zone all game when they play in Dayton, make them prove they can make jump-shots before going to man.

Dayton has clearly surpassed X as a program.

Dayton was 1-20 from 3 at one point yet Gregory called a timeout to diagram a 3 coming out of a timeout.
Wright was 12-20 for 28 points yet Lowery went the length of the floor, never looking to pass and got it swatted to half court to end the game.
St. Joe's sucks and Dayton really sucked today.

Gregory and Cronin are like the same guy. Both recruiters but terrible game coaches. I think Cronin is a slightly better game coach, but Gregory is a better recruiter and has control of his team. However, if Gregory really did diagram a 3 out of a timeout while at 1-20 from 3, well that takes the cake.
I would want neither of these guys, but if forced to choose I would take Gregory, I guess. At least he takes responsibility for his team, and doesn't take cheap shots at other teams. He protects his home court too.
I just read Xavier tales and it talked about the list of possible replacements after Prosser. It said Izzo called Bobinski on behalf of Gregory. I said a thank you prayer that night.
I told my wife that, who is a fan, but a game on tv only fan, and even she said "gross".

But you could have 11 guys who could rip down the rim and not make a jump shot!

Dayton lost a road game against a really bad team??? Seriously???? I can't believe it!!!
That is really a rare occurrence. So rare that during the Brian Gregory era, ugly road losses have only occurred on days ending in "y."

That loss is not good for the league's effort to get 4 or 5 bids. I am beside myself with anguish.

I know this loss hurts the league, but I cannot help but laugh.
I picked dayton to win this game in the A10 suicide pool, so I believe they lost it just because they want to always disappoint me, in every way.
gregory cannot coach in game. He can't do it. He gets outcoached by a team with blatantly lesser talent. dayton is, and always will be, disappointing. They never, ever live up to their hype. And I laugh and rejoice.
I HATE dayton.

I heard everyone on Dayton caught the flu from Xavier last week, I guess that explains why they lost.

I really have no idea how this will affect the perception UD fans have towards Gregory.
But I've always thought that UD fans have undersold their program. They play in a 10,000+ seat arena. They have a rich history. They have great facilities. They have great fan support.
UD should at least make the NCAA tourney every 3 out of 5 years. If I was UD fan, I would be disappointed about Gregory's tenure.
But instead, I hear how grateful they are for having him and concern that he might leave for a Big 10 school.

These are some of the reasons we make fun of them so much. They have never really been the same program post Don Donoher.

They are idiots. Really. I don't understand their hubris, considering their results. Those people have an overbloated vision of their "program", and can't understand when others undercut it. Reality of where their "program" stands, and how they percieve it are separated by a wide, wide margin.
I HATE dayton.

I agree. XU should have gone to a zone with 10 to go the first time they played as well.

It's amazing...I heard Sweet 16, Elite 8, and final four talk from UD fans this year...This was their year.

In the most delusional fanbase category, I have to put UD right near the top.

None of the UD fans I talk to remember that for some reason?

because they said that before the season started - you know this year was the year. But now that we are in "this" year, its now next year is the year.

I heard they're doing a 2 tix for 1 deal tomorrow night.
Small coach, small prices.

I don't know why, but when I think of Brian Gregory lately I think of the guy who appears on the Jeff Schmitt Auto TV ads.

St. Joes beats Penn!!
How much more exciting can it get?
All joking aside, hopefully the Hawks can put the early and mid season blunders behind them and return to the team they were last year with the ABSOLUTE ANIMAL OF A MAN in Ahmad Givens. Too bad he's gone but beating Dayton was a start in the right direction.

Isn't that their mantra every year? Listening to, reading, or watching the local sports guys up there (I grew up around there - and thank God everyday I went to XU & now live in Cincy) you would think they were a perennial Final Four contender... pathetic...

Meaning you want them to get over .500 in conference play? Or over .500 in general.
Could happen. Doubt it, but could happen.

It does seem like an endless cycle for UD. Are they saying "wait till next year" about 2010-2011, because they have Staten arriving? That's all well and good, but they will be losing a 4 year starter at center, their starting two guard, two senior point guards, etc. (Perhaps they no longer think Chris Wright will go pro early.) Not that these guys are the greatest players ever, but that is an awful lot to replace.
I don't see things being that much better next year. New starters at three(?) positions, serious amounts of minutes to be replaced...

Why? So they can save a somewhat respectable season and take out 1 or 2 A10 at-large hopes on the way? No thanks. In non-X games I'll be pulling for Temple, Rhode Island, Charlotte (especially since we got them twice), Richmond, and whoever is playing dayton.

You always have great arguments.
I agree that i wouldn't want them to hurt any other a-10 team's chance of making the tourney, but I meant that I would like to see them return to a good basketball program to give the A-10 ,as a whole, more credibility.
