Statistical Analysis: The Atlantic 10 at the Quarter Mark
LYNDHURST, NJ - Hard to believe but the Atlantic 10 Conference season is right at the quarter mark. Atlantic City is less than eight weeks away. At this point it's appropriate to take a tempo free statistical look at the conference. As noted, only conference games are included in the breakdown. Basketball State is the source for the data presented.
On the far right of the table, Efficiency Margin ("EFF Margin") is noted. That figure is the difference between offensive and defensive efficiency. Naturally you want a positive number as your EFF Margin and the higher the better.
Teams are ranked by order of Offensive Efficiency ("OFF EFF") (points per possession multiplied by 100).
"Don't foul...any of them." Coaches will often admonish their teams regarding which player(s) not to foul, especially late in the game. Facing Xavier that's an easy warning. Don't foul anyone. The Muskies Free Throw Production ("FT PROD") is astronomical. FT PROD does more than compare free throw attempts to field goal attempts. It computes free throws made divided by field goal attempts. The team with a good number in this category demonstrates itself to be one which gets to the line and makes the most of the opportunity. As noted, in the early going, Chris Mack's team is simply at another level in this area. Xavier, through four games is 91 of 114 from the line, an 80% rate and a four game average of 23 free throws on 29 attempts per outing.
