I wouldn't shake a ud player's hand either - who knows what they do with those watermelons.

This guy gets paid to be a journalist. Unreal.
Edit: Not saying this isn't a debatable topic, but stretching it into a column, a little bit far fetched IMO. It's just placing the ball on the tee for Dayton fans to complain about yet another minor, insignificant aspect of XU's domination over them.

I guess Dayton lost because of this.

Jesus the "class" card.
Can you major in "class" in the Midwest? Do people talk to each other at diners, or in the parks, or after church about the latest "class" issues of the community?
Class, this, class that.
I have to say I don't understand the concept of shaking hands BEFORE the game. Of course I also have a little issue with singing the national anthem before the game as well. But I get over both, since it doesn't matter really.
They shake hands at the end, when it matters. Who gives a crap if team walk over after the anthem is played and slap hands? Contrary to popular belief, this ISN'T boxing.

I have no problem with it. You win games by making basketball plays, not by pimping prior to the game. I understand there is mental preparation, but I don't know why that would change with different teams necessarily. On the other hand, maybe something was said prior to last years game at Cintas. Regardless, I think sportsmanship is important and should definitely be fostered by the X program.

I may be in the minority here, but I would like to see the players adopt a Wes Mantooth approach: I may not like you, but I respect you. Now, in the movie Wes then kisses Ron's forehead...so maybe the Wes Mantooth approach is a bad idea.

Why don't they shake hands before the start of the second half?
Why don't they shake hands after every timeout?
Where in the rule book says that good sportsmanship is shaking hands before the game?
So in order to have a game everyone feels good about the spirit of sportsmanship for a game, a minimum of two handshakes must take place.
Great googly moogly.

I think Crawford spitting in the face of Wright would be appropriate before the game.
Or he could just continue to be the best player on the court at UD.

but Wright and Huelsman are "gems", so I doubt that would be appropiate.

Instead of a basketball game, maybe we could just have a spitting contest.
Early line: UDump +13.5.

I love how many of them can see into the future and are guaranteeing a 20 point victory in a couple weeks when we come up there for the rematch

Maybe they should just battle before the games and then play with who's left.

That's how it works. We are going to get destroyed by Dayton at UD Arena. We never win there.
Except in 2008.
And 2007.
Like I said, never.

What a bunch of nonsense.
I would have no problem with a pre-game handshake, but the fact that it doesn't happen is something I didn't even notice. Who gives a rat's ass if they shake hands before the game? Seriously?
Not me.

I like to call their players funny names like “David Wuss” instead of David West. It’s because we are first class.
LOL, who posted this as Swampy?

You get a little wacked out when ESPN writes stuff like this about your progam:
Xavier was nearly flawless at the foul line, holding on for a 78-74 victory over Dayton that extended one of the longest streaks of futility in college basketball
The coaches, players and even the arenas have changed, but never the outcome.
Who wants to be known as futile.

The classic sign of loosing. When you can't beat a team, you make fun of their "class", character, conference, or lack of success compared to yours 58 years ago. See UD and UC fan.
I say we beat them at UD....and then work up a number 6 on em.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. The XU fans treated many of the UD fans like crap at the game Saturday. I hope the UD fans don’t stoop to their level next month.

Do they ever stop bitching about stuff? Ever?
It's always the same thing, every time they lose. Instead of focusing on where their team needs to improve, ahem, free throw shooting, they concentrate on finding excuses. Or they try to come up with some totally irrelevant, inconsequential tidbit to deflect the fact that they lost.
And then to use the "class" line, hilarious. dayton insanity again.
I HATE datyon.

These guys talk a good game about class.
My despise for UD started when one of their fans spit chewing tobacco on my pregenant fiance in 04 after we won the A-10 tourney. Said something nobody could understand and his white trash family of 7 all sounded like south park characters yelling "they took our jobs". Usher then made us leave and threatened to have US arrested. Granted, my wife had her preg. belly painted as a watermelon, and we chanted "inbred rednecks" the entire 2nd half, but still they found a way to make our schenanigans look classy.
I think this story is always taken as another sarcastic joke to fan behavior, but it is a true story.

First of all, I'm pissed that I'm reading that thread.
Now they are discussing the idea of new rich and old rich. Dayton's got a great basketball tradition. That being said, they do not have a great basketball team or program. Say since 1984.

Probably. They can have at it, I don't care. I dunno, maybe I'm mellowing as I get older, but their chirping gets to sound more and more like Charlie Browns teacher to me..."wah wah waahaa waaah, wah wah". It's just white noise now.
I HATE dayton.

There are twenty or so testosterone driven athletes psyching themselves up for the rivalry. Maybe shaking hands isn't the greatest idea in the world.
For example: Dante talks. A lot. Last year it almost led to pregame fisticuffs.
Now, if we were talking about mathletes preparing for a rivalry...different story.

That made me laugh. I don't even go after Dayton fans. I think the programs should shake hands before and after the game. If not before, after is just fine then.
No doubt the Dayton troll who posted that reads this board though. Made me pine for Bob Huggins and having a rival that I love to hate. I just can't get worked up over Dayton.

I got a kick out of the "Pride" poster who complained about the porn on this website. In order to access the Lounge, you have to issue a special request for entry and verify that you are of age. Furthermore, the description of that portion of the X-Hoops website leaves little to the imagination about what to expect.
Perhaps he became a Dayton fan some years following being a member of my 5th bell science class for exceedingly slow learners.

Obviously UD is better at talking a good game rather than winning games against us or any top teams on the court......

Mack was actually asked about this on the show on Monday and Coach stated it just didn't happend and wasn't sure why. It was nothing intentional on XU's part. He said both teams made a move towards half court and then both teams stopped and just went back to their own benches. He said no words were exchanged and the game was actually very clean with no hard or intentional fouls.
Mack stated he would make more of an attempt to shake hands w/ them in the future but he certainly didn't seem overly concerned about it. It was not a slight on X's part.

UD has to find something to cry. Now they want hand outs. You want a hand. We'll give you a hand, right upside the head. Whamm, how's that for a hand. We'll get Vince from Sham Wow to shake your hand. He ain't got all day you know.

You shake hands at UD Arena, then they'll be pissed that our players weren't kissing at half-court like Magic and Isiah back in the 1988 NBA Finals.

Of course X players had the hygenic good sense not shake hands. Dayton Flyers are notorious nose pickers and (deep) butt scratchers.
As for Brian Gregory's habits, don't get me started...
