View Full Version : Over-Coach Midget

Me thinks that the Midget on the udump sideline may do a bit of over coaching.

After 30 minutes today, there had been 59 dump substitutions vs. 31 for X. Although it was tough to count all the ones at the end, my estimation was that by game's end the Midget had made more than double the subs made by CMack-at least 85 in number

In the first four minutes of the second half, after the dump had a 3 point halftime lead, the small man made 8 substitutions to XU's 1. The 3 point halftime lead became a 3 point deficit. In the first 10 minutes of the second half, there were 20 dump substitutions to XU's 10. The ridiculousness of this was expressed by the TV commentator who said that he thought he was watching a hockey game because of all of the Cryers' "line changes" .

There might be a little problem with continuity? Maybe. Gregory has over 100 offensive plays. I guess he must feel unless he's doing something, he isn't coaching.

There is a fine line between instilling discipline, structure and a game plan or being a control freak The midget seems to cross that line.

In addition to being severly verticaly challenged, I think he just plain sucks. However, he must be a hell of a recruiter. The fact that he is able to get ANYONE that was offered a scholarship at another D-1 school to attend that piece of sh!t place, is nothing short of a miracle.

maybe the players like his lack of height... puts his head at their waist level... hell of a recruiting tool **cough**

Maybe over-coaching is a way to make up for being under-tall.

Think about this.

Kurt Huelsman is their starting Center. He's started his entire career. He's averaging 4 points and 3 rebounds.

Again. He is their STARTING Center.

That's all you need to know about gregorys coaching. Put anyone else out there as a starter. The midget simply cannot coach. Bad.

I HATE dayton.

PM,
Please let's keep the Mick and Brian twins where they are.
The substitution patterns are a direct lift from Miller. Neither midget can coach. Dayton's is there for more than a few years, unless something better comes to him.
The UC midget is living a charmed life. They can't fire him cause the school is $20 million in debt and can't afford to. :D:D:D

As I said on another thread, his substitution patterns are absolutely crazy. Johnson and Wright lead the team in minutes and are barely over 20/game. He has a fairly deep roster but any coach worth his salt only goes 8-9 deep, and I don't know of any other coach who plays his best players less. Imagine if Crawford and Hollaway only played half the game.

The other thing this pattern does is stifle any runs a team gets on. A team starts rolling and the players on the floor start clicking and two minutes later they're on the bench. It's ridiculous. This isn't the 4th grade where everyone has to play so many minutes a game.

Well the midget is about the height of the average 4th grader so what would you expect?

Now that we have beaten them again, I want to give them some props.

Chris Johnson has really developed into a good player. He killed us on the boards today.

Benson looks to be a good player, and if he fills out, he could be a really good player I think.

However, for all their experience, for all their half court grind it out plays, Dayton I think lost this game in June, or July when they scheduled their season.

Our guys are used to close games. So don't give me if we missed X amount of foul shots, we would have lost, etc, etc. We won because we play tough teams, year after year and that attracts players who want and know how to play in big games.

And by the way, where was the Fake Chris Wright in the second half?

The midget substituted so much that no one could keep track of him.

The guy had 10 points, 9 rebounds and a block, but only played 14 minutes as opposed to JCraw playing 24. They both had the same foul trouble. The Midget is an idiot.

Guarantee. If midget was coaching David Freakin West while he was having his career 47 point game, he would have pulled him out periodically to "give him his rest" - just like he did with Marcus Johnson yesterday while Johnson was having his career game. Johnson scored 17. Meanwhile, guys like Perry are thrown in for no discernible reason.

His recruiting ipitch is that if you come to ud you will get playing time.

I would love a player like C Johnson on our team and I hope Canty and/or Wells can do some of the things he can do.

This is the most athletic team UD's ever had. There is a lot of talent on their roster. Gregory seems to be more a hinderance, though, with the substitution patterns and the way he rides his players. His reason is he wants them fresh at the end of the game but if you're losing at the end because you didn't play your best players, then what does it matter if they're fresh?

They ran some very nice offensive sets in the first half but seemed to go away from them in the second. And they can play a stifling defense when they want to - problem is, they don't keep the pressure up enough.

If they had even a decent D-1 point guard they'd be a top 25 team.

If I recall correctly, even the announcers couldn't believe that Wright wasn't on the floor at the beginning of the second half, noting that Crawford WAS on the floor at the beginning of the half.

If BG is worth from 5 to 7 points to us due to his decisioning, so be it.

Even though the game was close I never felt like Xavier could lose this game the whole second half. I'm sure the Dayton fans knew they would figure out some way to lose.

See. It's like this... the last word doesn't come during the regular season. If your school was a regular at something other than the play-in game, you would know that.

Isn't is great that their own fans call him a midget?
