Mark Lyons is banged up. Geez, what a freakin’ shame, huh? Kinda makes up for all those times over the years that CW, BRob, CLittle, Rob, Brooks Hall and countless other Flyers were hurt, had the flu or were otherwise incapacitated and the Miscues were able to take advantage.
Are you kidding me? Not only do we not need Lyons to kick your butt, but no one is even complaining that we dont have him. Unlike Dayton there was always some excuse and when we beat you, its like it didnt count because you were missing one player. Please step up to the plate and admit that we own this so called rivalry. It would be nice to have Lyons, but if we did Redford wouldnt be able to rain treys on you all night long.


The other guard Terrell Holloway gives better shoulder than Quasimodo. I’ve seen defensive linemen who create less contact. Wouldn’t you love to see LW or RL “pull the chair” on Holloway: get up in his grill, lean on him, let him dip that shoulder and then step back and watch him fall flat on his face and get called for traveling. Me too.
You want to talk about point guards! London Warren might be the worst PG in Division I basketball. Not only is he afraid to shoot, he has yet to even attempt to shoot a 3. Did he even receive a scholarship from another school? When he is on the court its like 4 v 5, seriously we shouldnt even bother guarding him.


Who the hell is Andrew Taylor? Seriously. I have never heard of this kid before this season and he is a junior? Was he in suspended animation for the first two years or what?
Really? Bashing on Atay must be really tough. See while Taylor was on the bench, Xavier had really good players on the court like CJ, DBrown, and Raymond (you must have fond memories of these 3). We were too busy winning.


How about everybody’s favorite Frankenstein, Kenny Frease, ladies and gentlemen! Someone on the MB remarked that if Freeze bothered to stand up straight he would actually be 7’6”. I look forward to watching Kenny trail the play while Devin, Josh and, yes even KH, consistently beat the big slug down the floor for easy buckets. Kenny Boy put up an interesting line in the GW game:

Swampy, this Dayton team has done nothing to impress me this year and once again CW can jump really high, but has no game. CW likes to take big games off and I expect him once again to be a non factor in this game.
Yeah, Chris Johnson has played well, against teams like Lehigh and Townson! Truly impressive. I expect once again for the Flyers to have a long bus ride home back to Dayton after we crush them again come this Saturday.

I am not sure if someone has stumbled upon this yet but when I checked out UD PRIDE this morning to see if there was some game chatter, I found an interesting piece of jounalism from our friend swampy. I am not even gonna waste my time saying he is an idiot. Once you read this garbage, you will know for yourself.

If this doesnt get you fired up for saturday (not saying anyone needed it) then I dont know what will. I am at work right now I havent been able to stop gnawing on my pen since I finished reading it. The End of the 30 Year Insanity

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- Forget the upcoming three-day MLK Day weekend, what we have here, boys and girls, is your basic two-and-a-half-day work week. Following the Fordham victory, the Flyers and their Faithful followers now have roughly 60 hours to get ready for BG and the Boys to erase 30 years of frustration in the Queen City by dumping the Musties on their collective keisters.

It’s considered bad juju to get pumped up for the Eggsavior debacle until the previous Flyer opponent has been summarily dispatched. Good thing the Flyboys were not allergic to MSG. Otherwise, we’d all be wasting a lot of energy hitting the “ignore” button on the UD Pride MB to avoid the trolls, dipwads, toolboxes and doomsayers had UD somehow fallen to FU. They didn’t and so, after observing proper decorum and not risking the wrath of the Woof gods, we all move on to the game this week that actually matters vs. that school to the South.

Here are some observations on the upcoming battle royale:

-- First off, I’d like to know who had the brilliant idea of making reservations for “Breakfast at Sphinctas Center?” Let me take a wild guess: E-S-P-N, mayhaps? 11:00AM? Who plays college hoops at 11:00AM? If this game has to be played that early, at least bring in Dickie V for the occasion instead of Bob Wischusen and Tim Welsh. Just imagine how ticked off all three of those “World’s Strongest Man” fans will be that they can’t watch a repeat of the finals for the 37th time because UD/X is pre-empting it. Bummer, bro.

-- For the first time in a long time, the Mouskies don’t have a big guy who can bang and also stroke the three. Dudes like David Wuss, Justin Dullman, Duhrick Brown and their ilk could always hurt you inside as well as from beyond the arc. Name me one guy on the current Eggs Over Easy roster that fits that description? Jason Love and Jamel McLean have yet to attempt a three let alone make one!

-- Who’s gonna cover Chris Johnson? With those long arms, rebound-magnets for hands and that sweet lefty jumper, Mr. J will be a handful for Head Coach Chris ”In Your Face” Mack to gameplan. CJ is what I thought Dante Jackson would turn out to be when UD and X were both recruiting DJ, only much more so. Looking to the future, X fans will be delighted to know that BG has 3 more Chris Johnson-types signed to LOIs in the form of Devin Oliver, Ralph Hill and Brandon Spearman.

-- Yes, Jordan Crawford is a talented basketball player, but answer me this: does he make his teammates better? Is he a shoot-first or pass-first player? No and the former. Crawford has more shot attempts than the next two Mouseketeers combined; he leads the team in minutes played and in turnovers. He has launched 15 more 3 pointers than Opie Redford, even tho the little redhead shoots them at 45% to JC’s 39%

-- For all of the above reasons, Opie should be thinking seriously about transferring to another school. Believe me, it’s only gonna get worse, Red. Wait until next year when Crawford believes that he smells an NBA contract in the air -- you think JC shoots too much now? The times that I have seen X on TV, there was inevitably a play (or five) where Crawford would come down the floor, Opie smartly drifted to the corner and was wide freakin’ open for a triple. Did Jordan pass him the rock? Hell no, he would instead heave up a one-on-three circus shot. As one of the best pure shooters in college basketball, that really has to **** you off after a while, doesn’t it? Imagine yourself in a Michigan uniform, Brad: less than an hour and a half away from home, playing in John Beilein’s system where they value a guy who can stroke the trey like you -- why not give them a call? Holy hell. There are those who see through rose tinted glasses and then there are those who have sniffed enough duster and built up dust from newpapers that were printed the last time your team was able to win in Cincinnati. This guy might be doubling down on his removal from reality.

I'd say the thing his team will have the most trouble with is being in a stadium that has fans with more intact teeth in Section 102 than an entire 13,000+ building. Oh yeah, and the team that is going to absolutely humiliate you well before you usually wake up.

I've started to believe that this rivalry is very much an internet rivalry. Like you said, when I lived in Cincy I knew 100 UC fans for every 1 UD fan I knew.

Obviously, it is a rivalry and there has always been some on-court tension between the teams, but I don't think the average XU fan thinks of UD as nearly as big of a rival as UC. It's just a tine percentage of the fan bases that spend a lot of time on message boards that constantly argue that make it seem bigger than it is.

His post was absolutely priceless. It reminds me of the days of KY Flyer.

Every time we play Dayton, I'm reminded of KY Flyer. How the graph of where Xavier was going down hill especially since David West was leaving and Dayton was heading up hill. That was great. Since then we've produced two more NBA players, three sweet 16's and two Elite 8 teams. Dayton has produced one win in the tournament, London Warren, Jimmie Binnie and black, red and blue away uniforms.

I'm always fascinated by the argument that somehow Xavier fans aren't supposed to be proud of our history. History that our friend cubbie seems to think began in 1985. That's an entire generation in case anyone didn't know. 25 years of excellence, and we were pretty good in the 50's as well. Like say 1958. In the NIT championship game. I hope Dayton fans remember that one.

Anyway, Dayton fans are the only fans in the country who somehow think that you need to remember that they beat you in the 70's. And they say this on a computer. It's incredible actually when you think about it.

Dayton fan logs onto a computer and types for the entire world to see that Xavier should remember that in 1967 the Flyers were a really good team and watch out, because if you don't somehow remember that in 2010, terrorists win or something.

At first it was funny, but then Keith's family did take it a little too personal and tried to take legal action. Obviously that made a stupid thing even worse and now 6 years later, grown men from Xavier still talk about Dayton and watermelons.

Without the internet I don't think their would be any bad blood. This is pretty much an internet rivalry. Would they still be rivals? Sure, and the games would be hard fought and the players would still get emotional given the stakes. But the internet has blown it all out of proportion. No other school has more in common with us than Dayton.

I root for Dayton to do well in the non-conference and the post season. I want to see them make the dance. I think they have a great team and that Gregory is a good coach. I love the fact that we beat them, and I do enjoy taunting the Dayton fans that like to fly off the hook like they do. Without the internet I doubt many people would give two shits.

As for the watermelon joke DC, it did jump the shark. I thought it was sophomoric and juvenile at the time. It really didn't even catch on until the UD fans overreacted. The only reason that I like it now is that it is proven to get under their skin. F'in humpers. I have grown fond of calling them humpers. I don't think it is going to go away either. They can cast aspersions and show all the faux moral outrage that they want about how "classless" I am. That just makes it all the more delicious.

If some Dayton fan wanted to claim that Dante Jackson liked to shag sheep, I doubt it would rock this board with controversy. I doubt their would be lawsuits and threats to shut down their board. I bet we wouldn't have wholesale outrage. The whole concept is pretty gay, and I doubt anyone would get their panties in a bunch. So, calling David West a "pillow biter" is not personal? Is it personal when several male UD students harassed and cursed at our mother during the A10 tourney in Dayton? Is it personal when Brian's tires were slashed at Flanagan's only because he had Xavier plates? Is it personal when UD fans think being rude to XU fans is "expected behavior"?

UD fans are not pure by any means. They just do not like getting punched in the nose by us, Pablo, or our repeated wins over their lackluster team, program, or city. They KNOW they are found wanting - on so many levels – when compared to X and cannot stand it when we laugh at their delusions. It is fair to say, most Xavier fans do not hate UD or their fans. They actually pity them.

Dayton better be careful or else they could easliy lose to RI this week. I think St. Joes showed the entire league the blue print for how an undermanned team can beat UD. How many major D1 programs have a 6'10" center as a 4 year starter that entered the season with a career average of 3.6PPG and 3.4RPG and a starting point guard with career averages of 3.9PPG and 3.6APG. The last I noticed this guard hadn't even tried a three point shot this year. It looks like this is a program that has major problems recruiting and developing players at the two most important positions on the floor, center and point guard. Our 7" center of the future has better numbers already than Huelsman' career numbers and we are already in panic mode.

Weird Al is one of the few who has successfully pulled that off, but he did so because he lacked the creativity and originality that good musicians have. For me it's just fun. The rivalry is different than UC. I think we all knew we used to be inferior to the cats. Not anymore. With Dayton we know they are inferior but they just refuse to believe it. They continue to believe year after year that they will turn the corner and catch up to us but they fall on their face every time. Couple that with how many times I have personally had bad experiences with their fans and it's a deep rooted hatred.
