Per Goodman at Fox it looks like Jerryball is done in Chicago (DePaul has called a news conference tomorrow at 11 am) The BE hasn't worked out too well for them. They should look at Kelsey for their next coach.

Let's hope not. I doubt that a vaunted Big East team could possibly settle with an assistant getting his first head coaching job.

I believe they called his style of play Jerryball. I know his name is Jerry Wainwright.

Word on the street here in Chicago is that DePaul will target former DePaul star Tyrone Corbin. He is an assistant with the Utah Jazz. Tracy Webster will most likely be named interim coach for the remainder of the season.

Who is Jerry Ball?

A fat tub of goo that was a former defensive lineman for the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns. He was well known as a "clubhouse lawyer."

No wonder he can't coach basketball.

Edit: Sorry Amex. Didn't check the whole thread before posting.

DePuke is horrible, and what was worse when Bill Bradshaw was their AD was that they had an attitude about how good they were. In truth, they're the Fordham of the Big East. I hate DePuke because they were the prime instigator in having Marquette and St. Louis leave the MCC for the Great Midwest just when the MCC was starting to roll. It was all about Bradshaw.

After they summarily dismissesd Joey Meyer, who was the captian of a sinking ship, they hired borderline guys like Pat Kennedy who would recruit a convicted felon with an IQ of 5 if he could allegedly play but was a lousy game coach, Dave Leitao who got out while the getting was good then did a crap job at Virginia, and then Jerry, who is a nice guy but was in way over his head at that school in that league. He would have been better off staying at Richmond. Another case of a guy overstepping his limitations.

What exactly is the point of firing a guy during the season?

They mad Jerry hire new assistants and then decide that it isn't working?

What a joke. Do they even know how to run a winning basketball program?

And whomever said Pat Kelsey should get that job, should slap themselves for such foolishness.

Who couldn't trust Mrs. Garrett, right? Tyrone Corbin would be a good choice. An even better choice would be Brian Gregory from UD. I know, I know NFW that he goes there because he turned them down before (sound familiar). Seriously DePaul needs a coach who can recruit high level players in the mid west. DePaul wishes they had UD's recruiting class for next year. Hire Gregory and they might . . . .

Good.

I can't stand DePaul for their historic arrogance against Xavier.

Pound salt and lose every BE game you play - except to UC.

So long Brian Gregory. UD is going to be worried all offseason if they hire an interm head coach.

Hadn't thought of that possibility.

The question is whether he would be stupid enough to take the job.

DePaul is to the BE as LaSuck is to the A10.

They fired all his assistants to try to get him to resign. He decided to stick it out for the $$$$. JW was a safe hire. They felt burned by Leito when he jumped ship to VA. Unless they fire the AD, they will probably go safe again with Corbin.

That is a lateral move, at best.

Well then they have no one to blame but themselves. It's like Fordham. DePaul and Fordham kept coaches they shouldn't have and now have to endure another pathetic season.

JW set them back years. They only have one guy (Mac Koshwol) who even belongs in he BE. The rest of the guys are a bunch of 2 star recruits.

I've seen a handful of posts lately that suggest that Pat Kelsey will get a head coaching job next year. I don't believe he will. Don't get me wrong, I think he'll be a great head coach at some point, but he's still very, very young. If anyone really thinks a Big East school is going to offer a guy under 40 who's never been a head coach before I suggest you reconsider. I think we will have Coach Kelsey around for at least a few more years, and I think that is a very, very good thing for Xavier.

I think 2 more years at most. He is one of the top assistant coaches out there, and some school will definitely want to give him a shot. Unless, the school has a rich heritage, young is the way to go. Plus, Kelsey can recruit like no other.
