That fake punt was classic. Petersen always has some tricks in the bag for the Fiesta Bowl!

all Boise State does is win...one loss in the last 3 years i believe

Close. I'm shocked by this one. Ohio State beat two BCS participants, Boise beat two BCS participants, and Alabama has a shot to beat two BCS participants. Pretty heady company for Boise.

I assume Boise finishes #2 with this win (maybe #3 to Florida).

I was very upset these two had to play each other because both could have done much better then that sorry appearance by Cincinnati (even without Kelly) against Florida, and both could have had their way with UC. But, with that said it made for a very competitive game, and you got to tip your hat to Boise State.

How on Earth is Boise State not already in the Mountain West? If you want your conference to be a big time in college football, invite them already. They've only got 9 teams anyway.
An MWC with BSU, TCU, Utah, and BYU would already be better than the Big East and probably the ACC, even with the dregs at the bottom of the MWC.

BSU would be a good addition to the MWC. Air Force looked pretty good as well, and should be better next year than they were this year.
I had great expectations for these 2 teams, but the game didn't live up to my hopes. The TCU QB just misfired on his last throw. It was supposed to go to the outside shoulder, and the ball just floated out there. I have to wonder if he didn't just lose his grip on the ball. Still, if you hit your receiver in the head with your pass, you expect better results on the play than an interception.

Boise will finish behind Florida in the final polls - count on it. Pounding an undefeated "Big 6" team which was ranked higher than TCU along with the SEC love fest almost guarantees it. This outcome was probably foreseen by the committee and a key reason why TCU/Boise were paired up; so that a win by one of the teams would not vault it ahead of Florida in the final polls and muddle up the the national championship picture. With Florida at #2, it can be said with certainty that final #1 is better than final #2 (either Alabama having beat Florida, or Texas having beaten the team that pounded Florida). Here is the way it shakes out:
1. Alabama / Texas
2. Florida
3. Boise
4. Texas / Alabama
5. Ohio State
6. TCU
7. Iowa / Georgia Tech (whoever wins the Orange)
8. UC
9. Oregon
10. Penn State
(although I would not be surprised to see UC and Penn State flipped)

Great response, Danimal. Couldn't agree more and you articulated beautifully what those BCS bastards were up to all along..

Yet another thing I find totally idiotic with the BCS system? How can the loser of the National Championship game not be #2? They are the RUNNER-UP in the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!! Doesn't that automatically make them #2?
It's so stupid.
PS - is there anyone outside out Iowa or Atlanta that has any interest in the Orange Bowl tonight?

I predicted before the official results that these two teams would be playing each other. They do the same thing in the NCAA tourney...always putting "mid-majors" against each other in the first round.

Boise has 21 of 22 starters returning next year so they should begin the year ranked very high. They also have games scheduled against Oregon St. (who even UC beat, but its still Pac 10) and Virginia Tech in DC so they have some opportunities to do even better next year.

Boise State may even finish 4th. If UT beats Bama in a close one, then it might be UT #1, Bama #2, UF #3, and BSU at #4.
UC finishes Top Ten??? If you look at records, you can make a case for them, but they didn't look anything close to a Top Ten team in the Sugar Bowl. They were about as mis-matched as Hawaii was a few years ago against UGA.

And they'll go undefeated...again.
And be denied an opportunity to play in the National Championship...again.

Absolutely absurd...
Who do they play next year OOC? They were literally begging ESPN to help schedule somebody big since NO ONE wants to play them

If Boise starts high in the preseason polls, they might have a chance...That's the only way since the computer stats will sink them

With their luck, they'll slaughter VaTech, but VaTech will turn out to be terrible.
Then again, cruising past Oregon didn't seem to help them much, even when Oregon was 7-1 and coming off a win over USC.

If Boise goes unbeaten next year they will likely play for the title. I imagine the top 5 preseason will be Alabama, Ohio State, USC, Boise, and LSU, maybe in that order. Virginia Tech will probably be a top ten team when they play Boise, so that would be a "road" (game is in DC) win against a top ten team. The only reason Boise or TCU was kept out of the title game this year was preseason ranking, something that probably won't be an issue next year, since it's highly unlikely two of the top 3 preseason teams will run the table again.

That's not true. Boise was rated ahead of UC preseason and finished behind the Bearcats in the final BCS poll despite going undefeated (including a win over the Pac-10 champs). Pretty sure they started ahead of TCU, too.

Good point, I keep forgetting about UC. However, I think the point remains the same. Preseason top 5 or top 10 teams that go unbeaten will play for the title. This year was the major exception with 6 unbeaten teams in the regular season, 5 after the conference title games. It's just not going to happen again.

I hate how Boise gets compared to Gonzaga in basketball, when they should be compared to Memphis or us first...but that topic has been discussed ad nauseum.

As much as I love Xavier Basketball, I don't see how we, or Gonzaga can compare to what Boise State has done.
Boise states records in 3 of the last 4 years:
2006 13-0
2008 12-1
2009 14-0
Boise has put together undefeated seasons in 2 of the last 4. Undefeated regular seasons in 3 of 4 years. And, this year has a good argument that the National Championship should partially belong to them.
I don't think X or the Zags come even close to that. I frankly don't know who to compare them to at this point except maybe Texas, Alabama, USC, Florida, etc... Those are their peers who they should be looked at with.
Quite Impressive and further proof that it is shameful there is not a playoff in NCAA football.
