Xpectations

I was stunned when I read this (http://www.wlwt.com/sports/21971510/detail.html).
What an unbelievably stupid decision by the moderator of that site.
I can only imagine his brilliant decision-making process ... "Let's see... Should I completely destroy my credibility to subscribers who pay me to receive accurate information during one of the most important athletic decisions in their school's history, or should I post completely, utterly bogus information to those subscribers just so I can sniff out one potential thief. Hmmmm ... I'm going with the bogus information."
Idiotic.

They took the article off of Channel 5's site.
What's going on?

The UC Rivals subscription site (BearcatLair.com) disclosed that Mike Shanahan was being interviewed for the UC Head Footbal Coach position because he was a friend of Mike Thomas.
This information was false and they knew it wasn't true, but they ran the story because they suspected another website was posting Rivals premium info about UC. So than ran a totally fabricated story posted for all of their subscribers to see if the site would post it as well, knowing there's no way that site could have received the info legitimately.
I can understand wanting to protect your premium info, but this is a case where the cure is worse than the disease.
I subscribe to MusketeerScoop.com (Rivals premium site for Xavier) and I would be totally pi$$ed if Brian Snow posted bogus info to subscribers to sniff out one person who he suspected was reposting his information.
From that point on you have to wonder about the credibility and intentions of any information posted on the Rivals site. And that's the whole point of subscribing in the first place -- to get accurate information about what's going on behind the scenes.

Right on. Thanks for the info. Props!
