Batten down the hatches everybody!

While the folks out at Kansas State are dealing with a foot of snow on the ground, then high winds starting right as they are arriving at the Octagon of Cat Carnage, it looks like we might get spared the snow accumulation, but some weather forecasts predict winds up to 73mph during the night tonight, stayying at about 55mph tommorow.

I don't need to remind you what happened last time we had winds like that. But at least last time it was fairly comfortable outside when I had to go through 4.5 days witnhout electricity.

Just in case guys, remember to charge up those cell phones tonight, make sure those flashlights and radios have nice fresh batteries. Recall last time it took about 24 hours until some gas stations and groceries were back open for business. So, fill the gas tank tongiht too, I suppose.

Weather is supposed to be crappy starting tongiht, the sky it already pitch black. I suggest the perfect way to spend the evening is at home in front of the big screen tuned to ESPNU to watch the throttling of the Wldcats. (Just have that batery or hand crank radio ready in case you have to rely on 700 as a baskup, then again if it gets like last September, 700 would probably preempt the game to do local news, right? I have a case of Guiness ready for tonight...

Just in case, as soon as the officials call the game Final I am bringing in the Xavier flag to keep it nice and safe. Channel 9 recommending taking in any outdoor christmas decortations, patio furnishings, trash cans etc. Yes, they are talking to you, family with 5 inflatable decorations in your front yard.

That said, I'm hoping this turns out to be "Not nearly as bad as they are saying"

BTW: The folks at KSU are discounting tickets to $15 and waiving the parking fee, and ticket exchange fees to try to get people in the door tonight. Contrast to here where when it gets bad, the official communication is "Folks, the games on Channel ___ and 700 WLW, we encourage you to enjoy the game from the safety of your own home, however, if you do decide to come to Cintas Center, please use extreme caution"

The last windstorm happened with leaves on trees, and the majority of the weaker trees came down in that storm. While the possibility exists for damage to roofs and such, our previous windstorm should actually help this time around. I'm going to be surprised if there's anything like what happened last time.

Compounding our problem last time was that it was totally unexpected, and we had actually sent a lot of our Duke crews out of state to assist with hurricane damage.

Still, it seems prudent to charge the phone and pick up a case of beer.

I don't have room for a 4th case of beer.

and milk, milk, I need milk, bread, 4 no five loaves, what about bottled water, 2 cases?? must get to kroger, must empty the shelves. Channel 5 says I must get my storm preparation supplies in order.

So which kroger has the maddest crowds, are the blue haired ladies on Harrison Ave nuttier than those at the Hyde Park Plaza?

Ugh, I'm working tonight, and the last windstorm we had over 500 runs, the average is around 200 or so. It's always stuff like wires down and the like, it just sucks, to put it mildly.

Here's to hoping it's nothing like last time.

I HATE dayton.

I thought the last windstorm was a once in a lifetime fluke hurricane whose remnants went north.
