Bit of a papal rant here, a little OT, and one which may the Pontiff’s post over in “Around the NCAA” purgatory. Untill then, let us all bow our heads and conspire.

With the Bearcats’ solid start—including victories over top-25 Vandy and a great Maryland win tonight—the foul and flatulent air that surrounded Clifton over the last twenty years is finally lifting. That would be smell of Bob Huggins.

Hell, it’s about time the EPA alert is lifted, and maybe UC fans can start focusing on what these Cats can do, rather than what Huggins did or didn’t do as he arrogantly screwed the program into oblivion. Stuck in reverse is no way to run a basketball program.

Mick is off to a great start. This is his team. We can only hope UC fans can choose to move forward.

It was a full-time job hating Huggins, and I hope that over the years I’ve made some small contribution. X fans should take no small solace in knowing that the Pontiff has been sent to hell, in Morgantown, WV, where neither English nor skilled dentists are easily found.

Your Pontiff looks forward to the renewed rivalry!

UC won a couple of good games, but both Vandy and Maryland looked terrible. Was that because of UC's defense? Probably had something to do with it, but neither of those teams impressed me at all.

UC is a tough team. They rebound really good, but they can't shoot.

Should be a good game at the Cintas this year.

Probably will be another disgraceful rugby match like 2007. As long as the result is the same, that will do.

Furthermore, the many soft-mustachioed, be-mulleted fans of UC (that pack the Shoe to the tune of 6700 rowdies per game) still reek of the stench of Huggins, as well as Natural Ice and lost dignity. That mark shall never be washed away.

I freakin hate UC and hope they never win another game.

On the other hand, a re-kindled rivalry for 2 perennial top 25 teams can't hurt the ole XU machine.

Let them win them all, as long as we beat them!

I have to admit it was a lot more fun hating UC when Darth Vader was there. But come to think of it I hated them before he arrived and still do. Actually they are easy to hate. When they lose I like it. When they win a bunch I like it. The middle is not so cool.

But as we all know there are few things in life as rewarding as a victory over the UC basketball team. (especially when they were ranked #1 in the country, both times for that matter!!!!)

Unfortunately, none of this changes the fact that this season's Shootout is moved/shoved onto ESPNU instead of ESPN/ESPN2. And this is the second time this has happened; the first time (http://www.goxavier.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/121106aae.html) being in December '06. For obvious (http://www.gobearcats.com/sports/m-baskbl/stats/2005-2006/teamcume.html#TGBG.RES) reasons (http://www.gobearcats.com/sports/m-baskbl/stats/2008-2009/teamcume.html#TEAM.CMB), I blame this on sUCk.

The local media and dumbasses from UClifton will never left Thuggins go. The stench will continue.
I didn't know the Shootout got demoted to ESPNU again - that blows and so does Usuck.

The Vandy game was terrible. I don't know what possessed Stallings that made him thinking trying to full court press UC was a good idea, since all they have are athletes and not shooters (Vaughn being the exception), but Vandy gave up about 6 or 7 easy buckets in the first half by pressing and could never recover. Maryland had absolutely no business being ranked; Vasquez is flashy, but hurts his team as often as he helps it. I'll start to believe in UC if they can beat Gonzaga, but until then I'm keeping the faith that Cronin has his usual dysfunctional group of me-first athletes.

UC looks huge.

Maryland needs a lot work.

I actually caught the 700 broadcast a little bit, and heard whatshisnuts say the ref was paid at halftime for a traveling call on Yancy. Thank God Byron Is a Musketeer for Life.

These pretty much go alone with my thoughts on this one. I watched some of Vandy and about all of the Maryland game. UC has athletes, but they have little offense as most of the time they just work to throw up their own shot or occassionally dump it down low. Once they throw up a brick, they crash the boards hard and do most of their scoring as a result. They are thuggy on defense and force weaker-minded teams to be intimidated. Sounds like a UC team to me.

I have no doubt that part of Vandy and Maryland playing so horrible was due in part to UC taking them out of their games and making them look bad, so props to UC on the wins. However, I can also tell you that Vandy and Maryland should not be top 25 teams. They were depressingly bad in most facets of the game. UC looked bad for a lot of the game, and they looked even worse. I came away wholewheartedly unimpressed with either team. If we box out and do not allow UC to take us out of our game, we will win at Cintas this year.

That depresses me. I loved when they lost to Depaul in the first round of the Big East Tourney.....that was a great day.
I have a strong desire to see sUCks lose every game in football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, etc. I hate them and each and every fan of that university. I thought it would decrease when Huggins left but my hatred has grown.
And the bandwagon football fans make me sick. F sUCks!!

It's annoying isn't it? I had to put up with crap all offseason about how Stephenson was going to put up 30 against Xavier. All I heard about was talk about winning crosstown shootout and NCAA and Big East mumbo jumbo. Prarie View was great because they became silent, shocked, and confused. Now it's back in full force. Why is Xavier surrounded by arrogant/unrealistic fan bases?

Thank you Gonzaga. I can't stand Cronin.

I was rooting for UC to pull it off. I do believe Gates got fouled at the end of regulation there, and an all-undefeated crosstown shootout would have been awesome.
