14 Developments to Watch
From UMass to Saint Louis, excitement builds around the A-10 for the start of the 2009-10 season. Here are 14 stories - one for each camp - to keep an eye on as the early season unfolds.
XAVIER - Chris Mack has made it clear that the Musketeers are going to push pace more than in seasons past. With only three proven inside commodities in Jason Love, Jamel McLean and Kenny Frease (with Jeff Robinson to spell at the forward spots), the conditioning of these interior Muskies is key. If the running leads to fatigue, cheap fouls will hurt the Muskies. How conditioned is the frontcourt? We'll find out.
DAYTON: There were many impressive freshmen in 2008-09, but few showed as much poise as Dayton's Chris Johnson. Seamlessly fitting in with a veteran Flyer roster, the athletic forward averaged a staggering 5.2 boards in just 16 minutes of action per game last season, shot nearly 35% from long range and 77% from the stripe. Look for a monster year from the sophomore from Columbus who, even on a deep roster, is too productive to keep off the floor.
