View Full Version : Larry Johnson. That's so gay.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs have suspended running back Larry Johnson until Nov. 9.

The club is on its bye week so Johnson will miss one game, at Jacksonville on Nov. 8.

The three-sentence news release issued Wednesday night said only that Johnson, who turns 30 in a few weeks, was suspended for conduct detrimental to the club.

Johnson used a gay slur twice within a 24-hour period Sunday night and Monday, first on his Twitter account and then again Monday morning after telling reporters he was not talking.

The Chiefs said they would have no further comment on Johnson's status "at this time."

I don't think it's appropriate to call a slur "gay". That is offensive to the gays.

Just watched Esera Tuaolo on ESPN talking about the Larry Johnson situation. The homosexual community might want a better representative. It probably wouldn't be right to say he sounded like an idiot - because that wouldn't be fair to idiots - but it's a good thing that guy could play football. His response to several questions was the very informative and profound, "I just can't believe we're here again and stuff."

He also claimed that using the words "gay" and "faggot" to describe something is the same as using "bitch" or "nigga" when talking to a woman or man. Sorry, Esera, it's not. If a gay man is called a faggot with a negative intention, then it's similar to calling a black man a nigger or a woman a bitch. But, if a woman is at a bar and tells her friend she's a bitch because she's the lucky one with the new purse, the bitch community across the world shouldn't be up in arms.

Most of these terms are created by adolescent kids, mostly girls, who can't learn how to speak like adults. Some of them become famous or they are so goofy that a movie is made mimicking their culture and then people TAKE THIS CRAP SERIOUSLY and make a big stink out of it. This use of language only illustrates the ignorance and limited vocabulary of the people that use it, or is used to mimic ignorance. To turn it into a debate about cultural acceptance is extremely absurd.

I'm expecting to start seeing campaigns that want to put an end to people saying, "I had a blonde moment." That's how ridiculous this "that's so gay" thing is and how absurd this politically correct movement is getting.

At what point are people going to realize that the intent of what someone says is far more important than the words they use? I still find it amazing that there are people who will think it's so awful if a little kid says, "I just stepped in shit," but would find it adorable if that same child claimed, "I just stepped in doody."

In addition, why does someone like Larry Johnson have to respect the choices and beliefs of the homosexual community, but they don't have to respect his? Many groups always want to preach acceptance and tolerance of their own views, but they don't want to accept and tolerate opposing viewpoints.

To me, the irony is that the most offensive, most disgusting jokes I've heard in my life have come from the gay people I've known. It's absurd to see some of these same people get offended over stupid, unintelligent comments. Take Perez Hilton, for example. Here's someone that basically made a career by insulting people and he gets offended if anyone breathes anything anti-gay. Why do we listen to people like that?

Because we are a country that has to be told what to do, how to act, how to spend our money, how to wipe our butt's, what time to get up in the morning, what time to go to bed and what to eat. I think people need to stop being so freaking sensitive and we would be a whole lot better off. You might think this is gay but that is my opinion.

I believe it was "fag". I don't know the ins-and-outs of LJ's contract, but it's reported as 6 years, $45 million. If that was spread evenly (it's not), it would be about $440,000 per paycheck, making his suspension $880,000. That is one expensive slur.

Sorry I wasn't here to "take the bait", Jump. It was so cleverly disguised, I would surely have fallen for it.

I'm just wondering whether its healthy for you to read a post about a professional athlete getting suspended, and the first thing you type and post is about me. In less polite circles (oh wait, this is a less polite circle) that's called having a hardon for a guy. But I would never say that.

The preoccupation of a hardcore and vocal, albeit small, group of posters on this board with the almost mandatory use of the word "gay" continues to interest me. All these hardy straight guys being so upfront and brave about using the word gay as a demeaning term? There's so much risk being questioned or criticized here.

As far as the infatuation you perceive me to have for you, its just that. Your own twisted, self-aggrandized perception that you actually matter to anyone on this board. I just find it humorous to point out the level of hypocrisy that resides in such an infallible, vaunted mind as yours.

I think it was more because of his crappy play and questioning of his coach. I highly doubt an NFL organization truly cares if he uses the word faggot.

Back onto the actual topic of the thread (assuming you guys are done kicking DC), IMHO, this thing had much less to do with gay slurs than it did with the attitude that permeated his posts. Dude made it clear that all he gave a shit about was his paycheck. Granted, he's sucked this year and that made it a lot easier for KC to cut him, but still - I've really received some vicarious enjoyment out of the fact that he's been cut. He'll never be the leading rusher in Chief's history and now faces the possibility that he's out of the league. I'm no expert, but the fact that Edgerrin James is still unsigned does not bode well for LJ. Both are old RB's that were great back in the day.
