Seems like an OK dude, and the response comments are humorous. I'm sure many here will get bent out of shape of his 4th place finish for the Muskies.

I never understand this kind of stuff. Anyone can make up a blog, so how is there any type of validation to their opinion? What's his pedigree to make his opinion weigh any heavier than say, a dead goats?
I HATE dayton.

It carries no weight at all, just some random Big Ten fan that admits he's not a close follower, but because he can makes a post. That's fine. Why those people in the comments are taking him so serious is beyond me. But they are.

If you take the time to actually read the blog post, it does have its moments. It's not inconceivable that La Salle or Richmond could finish above Xavier, although I'd be surprised if Temple and St. Joe's do finish that low this year, no matter who they lost to graduation.
DWG, are you a Wisconsin fan by chance?

Amazing that DWG couldn't come up with a cute picture to post above udump's ranking like the pic of XU's hot cheerleader tonguing D'Artagnan. Oh, that's right, there aren't any to describe a ghetto.
Guess this will have to suffice:

And from his Conference USA ranking/preview:
10. RICE. Do you know who Rice's coach is? It's Ben Braun. The same Ben Braun who had a good amount of success with Cal not that long ago. It's going to be quite a task to turn the Owls around (they were 10-22 last year, Braun's first season), but he's already starting to make inroads. He signed a couple of three-stars this year (no small feat for Rice) in PG Tamir Jackson, who also had an offer from UAB, and power forward and likely terrorist Arsalan Kazemi from Iran, who had offers from Cincinnati and Maryland and may or may not be related to the lion from Narnia. It's still a long road ahead, but looking to get better.

Thanks.
I think I'll stick around here, if you'll have me on your Xavier bandwagon.
First thing - tell me everything I need to know and why picking Xavier fourth is so dumb, even though they are losing a ton and I'm not sure Holloway has a speed that qualifies as "under control" - NOTE: small sample size alert.

Easy question. X will finish higher than 4th for several reasons. Yes, X lost 3 starters and their top 3 scorers, including one to the NBA. But last year X lost both of its starting guards and its top forward to graduation (they all graduate here), started a true freshman at point guard, and went to the Sweet 16. The year before X lost its entire frontcourt to graduation and went to the Elite 8. So we reload, not rebuild.
As for the specifics, besides returning two starters (Jason Love and Terrell Holloway), we also return top 125 recruit Dante Jackson, who also started at point guard at times in place of Holloway. Jackson will be moving to his natural position at the three. We also return IU transfer Jordan Crawford. Word has it that we shouldn't be surprised if he plays one year and then moves on to the NBA. He's that good. We also return backup center, 7 footer, and top 60 recruit Kenny Frease. We also return top 125 recruit Mark Lyons, who wasn't eligible as a freshman (he got screwed by the NCAA). But word has it that he is very good and will challenge Holloway at point guard.
We also return sophomore Brad Redford, who is arguably one of the top 3 point shooters in the country. On top of that we have junior forward Jamel McClean returning. He is very athletic but needs to work on his offense. But when given the minutes last year, he could score on a bunch of dunks and putbacks.
And in regards to Holloway and Love, I have read that Holloway has been an absolute gym rat this off season and expect his shooting to be much, much better. Love is a solid "blue collar" center who rebounds and plays very good defense. I've read that he's much stronger than last year.
So in conclusion, Xavier has a history of reloading. Its players have a history of getting bigger, stronger and better.
Most of us are pretty confident that there is plenty of talent on this team. There is plenty of experience. The X factor we have is a head coach who has never been a college head coach. But he has an excellent pedigree, has excellent assistants, and has shown that he can recruit as good if not better than his predecessor.
And one final thing. You have Dayton finishing 1st. UD hasn't beaten Xavier in Cincinnati since 1981, when Carter was still in office. UD has a point guard who chose UD over Jacksonville (the college not the NFL team). UD has the most delusional fans in the country. Before last year, the UD fans were still bragging about winning the Maui Christmas Tournament in 2002 as being one of their most recent accomplishments. It is simply morally, ethically and physically impossible for UD's second rate program to finish ahead of Xavier.
So there you have it.

Finishing 4th would be very disspointing. But I think it's very possible that we finish 3rd. There are lots of question marks.

Just a note that I don't think many posters know about, during open gyms over the summer Holloway was frequently the first player picked. From some of the guys I have talked to it was between Holloway, Crawford, and McLean as traditional first picks. I have no idea how much that actually means but coupled with the information from the coaches that he has improved tremendously over the offseason I have to think he will be 10 times better as a sophmore and I would not be surprised to see 7-11 points a game and between 2.5-4 assists per game.

Yeah, Holloway is going to be much improved this coming season. Not that he had a bad freshman season or anything (was actually a pretty good one), but I wouldn't pencil Mark Lyons in as the starting point guard just yet.

Not really, although I wish that were true...how many times have been preseason picked ahead of X in the last decade??? Probably this one time...last year banter went back and forth and it was close in preseason on who the "experts" were picking but certainly not overwhelmingly like it is this off season, so no, it's hardly the life of a Dayton fan.

Goldy, you're comments about that team at number 5 are phenomenal. I know plenty of UD fans that are just normal fans of their team, but that vocal faction just comes across as straight delusional. Coupled with the fact that my parents refuse to go back to the Arena after the treatment they received at the A10 tourney up there just further pushes my opinion down of that team and their fans.
