I might be a simpleton, but I won't ever root for my schools biggest rival in any sport. Hey, do you follow UC swim team too? Just wondering. Here is the bandwagon. I guess you get to drive it.
Just to nail it down. You root for Xavier basketball, but also root for UC football. And I'm the moron. Whatever.

No, i didn't follow UC swimming. Just football. And, yes, there were all those times my dad took me to the Coliseum to see Terry Cummings, Jelly Jones and even Junior Johnson.
And what was your point? That I should have known then that I'd be and X bball fan? That I should have known the school I'd attend-of which i had no way of knowing- didn't have their own football team to rival state school?
I'm forty. It's a good thing with Thor's brand of Mcarthyism that it doesn't matter much that we also attended the circus, the Stingers, and, god forbid, Shep Messing and the Cincinnati Kids.

Can we change the title of this thread from "our Cats" to "Fred's Cats" please? It kinda makes me throw up a little in my mouth everytime I look at it.
I prefer not to read anything that says "Our (insert rival here)" on a Xavier message board, even if it's a sport we don't provide at Xavier. Feel free to cheer for St. Joe's lacrosse team or Dayton's backgammon squad, but spare us from the lovefest.
The only "Our (insert rival)" I would ever want to see at XH would be: "Our Doormat," or "Our Little Brother." Please.

Rutgers finished last year fairly strong; I certainly wasn't expecting UC to blow these guys out at this point. It's looking more and more like it will come down to either UC, Pitt, or WV getting the Big East's BCS bid (sorry, UofL, you've taken a step back the last few seasons).

If Notre Dame has another dismal season or if Michigan doesn't improve that may happen but until one of those two jobs open up I don't think Kelly goes anywhere. Even if he does leave he has made UC a more attractive job than when he arrived which would make it easier for a successor to continue.

My post went over your head I see.
If people want XU to join the BBall only BE schools in a new league, XU fans should be rooting against everything BE football related. If the BCS takes away the BE's status or if the BE thinks they might take it away to give it to the WAC, a shake-up is more likely as the BE will look to strengthen football by adding or shedding football teams.

Chances are slim that the Big East loses it's BCS status but let's say that they did. Who would they add or shed that would get it back? The only high profile team out there not currently in a conference is Notre Dame and that isn't going to happen. If the Big East lost the BCS they would be even more dependant on the basketball side to make up for lost revenue which would reduce the chances of a split IMO.

I would form a football only conference with the top Big East and top MWC teams forming the east and west divisions of said conference. No one could say that the winner of the conference championship game would not be worthy of a slot in the BCS playoff picture. The inter-divisional games would certainly be worth watching.
The Big East and the MWC both have some real pretenders in the football ranks, but if you take the top 6 schools from each side, you would have a pretty good 12 team conference.

Then you also have to cheer against teams like Utah and Boise State (and maybe BYU this year) who are also generating BCS Bowl revenue for themselves and their conferences. It is, as an esteemed poster once said, a zero-sum game; one conference's BCS loss is another's BCS gain.
Besides, when did I miss the snippet of news that Georgetown, Villanova, Seton Hall, St. John's, et al. get to share in BCS bowl revenues?
#3, given, the current Big East TV contract and NCAA Tournament credits generated by the Big East, they'll make it work for 16 teams. They're not splitting anytime soon.
Actually anyone wanting the BE to lose their BCS bid would root for Utah, Boise St., etc. And where did anyone say anything about revenue sharing?
Chances are slim that the Big East loses it's BCS status but let's say that they did. Who would they add or shed that would get it back? It is not as slim as you would like it to be. Teams like Syracuse, WVU and Rutgers would already like to join different leagues if possible so if the BE were to lose BCS status, what actions do you think those three would take?
XUglow
09-10-2009, 09:53 AM
But a murderous travel schedule.
Not as bad as you would think. If they did like the other 12-team leagues, they would have 5 divisional games and 3 league games from the other division. Of those 3 games, depending upon the year, you would have either 1 or 2 travel dates to the other section of the country. That's it, and it wouldn't be any worse that Washington and Washington State being in the same conference with UA, ASU, UCLA, and USC. You just go sideways instead of up and down.

Actually Kahns, I don't have the ability to delete posts in this forum. I only have it on a select few forums on the board.
Also, why should moderators be held to a higher standard? Can't we have opinions too? And for the record, I didn't call Fred an idiot, skitzophrenic (I'm sticking to that spelling just because) or bipolar. I said that he sounded that way, jokingly. In fact, it's a compliment to say that someone sounds idiotic, because it means that they don't sound that way all the time. Otherwise you just expect idiocy to roll out of their mouths constantly. I was slamming on Cincy as a whole by making that comment, not Fred, honestly.
As for Fred being a UC fan, so be it. I expect it actually. What bothers me, and admittedly Fred did push a button quite obviously, is that statement he made about all Cincinnatians being Bearcats during college football season. See, this makes me laugh. You can take jabs at the UC fans without needing to make it personal or angry or violent.
How was my post personal, or angry or violent?
I really want to know if Terry Dike is okay and if he will play this weekend against West Virginia.
When it's not Xavier basketball season, hell even WHEN it's Xavier basketball season, I can't get enough UC football talk. I can't. I'm proud of UC football.
So while you are luaghing, for whatever reason, can't you just provide me some information on how we will defend the long passing of UConn tomorrow?

It wasn't personal, angry, or violent, DC. That's why I thought it was funny.

My bad, I read it wrong. I'm hoping to get my customized UC national championship t shirt from Fred. And have him autograpg it for Thor.

Really Thor? You're going with that explanation? It's a compliment to say someone sound like an idiot? How about when you follow it with "which in all honesty is a good representation. Nevermind".
You going to try to spin that into a compliment? What's next? Are you going to claim someone broke into your office and posted under your screenname?
Fred got you all riled up, and your best response was to take a cheap shot at him personally, and you're too big of a pussy to admit it. I don't mean that as a compliment.
As for why moderators should be held to a higher standard when it comes to making personal attacks against other posters... well, if you don't see why that's an issue, I'm not going to bother debating it with you.
Kahns, of course it was total and utter spin. I'm surprised that you couldn't see it that way. In fact, the fact that you couldn't is pretty funny. Also, look at the forum that this is in. There is your answer to your worries about mods attacking other posters. Also, your attack on me wouldn't fly in any other forum either, but this forum was made for it. As for this...
"and you're too big of a pussy to admit it"
Well, as the saying goes, you are what you eat.
But really, I did admit that he got under my skin. Read again. Really, though, why do you care anyway?
I HATE dayton.

Zino's was no Cassano's. I enjoyed hitting Cassano's after we'd destroy Madeira in hoops over at Sellman. That was the days of the old Kenwood Plaza. I'd often see Snipe coming out of Potter's, sucking his thumb and holding a balloon.
Kahn's hung out over at the mall. He'd shoplift at Spencer's and head to Prime and Wine with the rest of the highfalutins.
The most important thing to argue here is NO ONE comes into our house and pushes us around. Lay off my Mustangs.
