Pitino told police he had sex with accuser

University of Louisville men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino told police that he had consensual sex with Karen Cunagin Sypher at a Louisville restaurant where he’d been drinking on Aug. 1, 2003.

He also told police that he later gave Sypher $3,000 to have an abortion, according to Louisville Metro Police reports The Courier-Journal obtained under the Kentucky Open Records Act.

But Pitino denied Sypher’s allegations that he raped her at Porcini, after the restaurant closed, and again a few weeks later at a different location, police records show. And prosecutors who have reviewed Sypher’s claims say Pitino won’t be charged.

Never had sex at a restaurant myself. I wouldn't know even how to go about it. I am now curious. Was this a nice restaurant? I can't think that Rick would go to a dive.

I like to think that I have morals and have some morality. I have a wife and kids, and I have never cheated on my wife. But I am not Brad Pitt. It is easy to be faithful in comparison. Bill Clinton and Rick Pitino have different options than I do. I can't imagine if women threw themselves at me, especially attractive younger women. I think I would stay faithful. I hope I would. But it has to be a lot more difficult. And they call it temptation for a reason.

As far as rape goes, how in the hell could anyone possibly rape any woman in a restaurant? Just the act of having sex in a restaurant seems to confound me. How do you rape someone? I can't believe that any rape happened. I think a woman came on to Rick and then she used some extortion to try and get as much money as she can. I don't know the facts but if I had to make the call she is quite a loose blackmailing whore.

That doesn't excuse Rick, who has a wife and kids. I am bigoted against people who run around on their wife and kids. I could never imagine doing that to my kids. I would lose my kids. You lose custody and break apart a marriage and suddenly you are a part time dad. I could never imagine that fate. That isn't an option. But then again, they call it temptation for a reason. If I was Brad Pitt, I would have a much harder time fending off the masses. It is a bit easier for me to stay the path.

Now that I read it again, that is some claim.

It clears up the restaurant thing, because it was after it closed. But if I raped a woman, I tend to think i would be locked up tomorrow. She claims he raped her, and then she went out with him again. If her claims are true, she has a mental problem. That is some strange behavior.

I think this woman should be brought up on charges of extortion. I really do. Rick was sleazy in what he did, but she should go to jail.

apparently the money that was paid to his boy and the lady for the arranged marriage is out of control. This came from dealerships and investments. They were legally married so pitino and sypher could be together. 4 kids that are not Tim Syphers. She got fed up with hiding it and that is when Pitino's son found out and got the job at Florida and hit the road. He had no other job offers and got a huge favor. His friend was basically hired to serve as a fake husband, but legally married until Pitino got rid of his wife without paying through the nose. This one is going to get ugly.

I don't want to be a stud and be the first one to say it or anything, this is just what I've heard. Bottom line is Pitino is in for it. The lady herself said in a NY Post article that I read that she now thinks her marriage was a sham and that her husband was paid by Pitino to marry her but I just dismissed it as her telling yet another lie.

That would be one crazy twist if it turned out to be true. Still seems a little far fetched to me but there are crazy people out there so who knows.

Take it from an old man who spent most of 34 years on the road covering all kinds of teams, the temptations are always there but you've got much better at home, and I don't even know you. However, degree of difficulty, lack of opportunity or quality of the Mrs. or temptress is moot point. Why? As you say, "That isn't an option." I tend to be less than bigoted because I don't like to judge. In a way I pity Pitino because he appears to be both a philanderer and a two-faced liar.

Its gonna get very interesting over the next couple weeks/months with this story. The amount of curveballs is going to be astonishing. I don't know who said it in a previous thread earlier in the year about Pitino, but when the extortion charges came about there just had to be more to this story. She might be crazy, but Pitino obviously doesn't fall far from that tree.

The New York Times sure thought Pitiino had an interesting past. Google an article about Pitino and Hawaii's probation. It's from May, 14, 1989 as Pitino was interviewing for the UK job. Here's a snippet:

"An article today in The Lexington Herald-Leader cited a 1977 N.C.A.A. report on sanctions against Hawaii that implicated Pitino in 8 of the 64 violations that led to the university being placed on two years' probation.

The violations involving Pitino included providing round-trip air fare for a player between New York and Honolulu, arranging for student-athletes to receive used cars for season tickets, and handing out coupons to players for free food at McDonald's.

He was also cited, along with the head coach, Bruce O'Neil, for providing misinformation to the N.C.A.A. and University of Hawaii officials.

The N.C.A.A. committee on infractions recommended in 1977 that Pitino and O'Neil be disassociated from Hawaii athletics"

Also, Pete Gillen was on staff for a time with Pitino at Hawaii.

It randomly hit me tonight how crazy it is that Pitino wasn't fired.

coaches get fired for all kinds of stupid reasons. There's former Alabama coach Mike Price (from Wikipedia):



Price may be best known for an off-the-field incident during a very brief stint as the coach at Alabama. In December 2002, he was hired in principle to replace Dennis Franchione as the head coach at Alabama. Price coached Alabama through the 2003 spring practice, in May his contract was rescinded shortly after news reports surfaced of an incident during a trip to Pensacola, Florida, where Price was playing in a golf tournament.[4] Price had never signed a written contract at Alabama.

A story in Sports Illustrated said that Price had been seen at a strip club. He allegedly later checked into a local hotel with at least one exotic dancer from the club. The magazine further alleged Price had sex with one of the strippers, a claim which Price denied, although he acknowledged being intoxicated on the evening in question. He filed a $20 million libel and defamation suit against Sports Illustrated. Price received some vindication in 2005 when the magazine settled the lawsuit for an undisclosed sum.

And then there's former Iowa State Bball coach Larry Eustachy:


Following the 2002-03 season, pictures surfaced showing Larry Eustachy drinking and kissing female students at a student party in Columbia, Missouri.
