Out of boredom I went to the semi final games today. I swore years ago I would not go back as it is not much of an indicator of what to expect with actual team basketball but what the hell.
First game included J. Love and D. Jackson. They lost at he buzzer with Love walking off in frusration at the foul not called. He was hacked to hell and back on a out back but still no reason for poor sportmanship. Gates is lazy or did not want to be there. Took threes and did almost nothing within 10 feet of the rim. McClain is UC's 7 footer. No hands. Can't see where he is a top 50 recruit but he is a big body. Gates has the NBA physique but there is little heart to go with it. Dante looked good. Vaughn looked better. Kilpatrick looked good for UC. Fast and fluid.
Second game included Lyons and Crawford. Crawford has no weaknesses. Easily the fasted first step and quickest release of both games. Sorry UC fans but this guy has it all over Vaughn who is first team Big East. Lyons is almost as impressive. Real fast and fluid with both hands. Can jump through the roof. Both made some amazing moves to the hoop. The competition is an unknown but I would say we will see the biggest upgrade in guard play ever at X for sure.
CJ was CJ. Chance to win with 12 seconds and he does not pass. Drives to the hoop. Gets ball put back in his face for the 4th or 5th time. They lose.
With the dribble penetration we will get from Cheeks and Lyons, look for Redford to rain in threes on a regular basis. I believe we will own Dayton and take two from them without an injury or a game where our big guys get in foul trouble.

That is such a Dayton attitude...in the scope of our season, that should NOT be goal numero uno, save that for Muddy Waters and his fine crew.
As for Love, it doesn't sound like he was a poor sport, he's just a competitor, and hates losing. That's a good thing, if you ask me. (That's assuming he didn't throw a temper tantrum or anything, though)

CJ actually looks a lot better normally in Deveroes. His game fits in really well in pick up games.

Yeah, his game also fit in pretty nicely on two of the best teams in Xavier history.

No doubt CJ was a big part of what was accomplished these last two years. His ability to bring the ball up the floor was key at times. The only time I was really ticked off at CJ was the Butler game last year. Good player. Could be the next Jack Jennings in the DSL.

The Enquirer states JC missed a three at the buzzer in this game as opposed to my account which had CJ getting stuffed at the end. I left with about 8 seconds to go as the opposition was fouled and I believe they give two free throws regardless in this league. This must have allowed another possession.
Also. I agree CJ was a valuable player with lots of points and better yet the coaches considered him a team leader but he did have a propensity to drive in situations where the opponent was aware he was not going to dish. If they have a shot blocker the result was predicable as was the case yesterday.
The Enquirer was big on Kilpatrick today. He did look good but nothing like Crawford. I thought Lyons had a faster first step as well.

Thanks for the update. Being away from the action, I have yet to see Crawford or Lyons play, save for the cell phone footage. These reports are getting me fired up for November. A potent backcourt with some talent surrounding them can go a long way. (see: Jameer Nelson and Delonte West.)
Crawford to Lyons to Redford. I like the sound of that. Could this be college basketball's "Sad Lexicon?"

Did anyone go today? Lance Stephenson played today. He looked alrite had a few nice moves but really wasn't spectacular.

I'm sure we'll read about it in the Enquirer. A simple uncontested layup and modest performance will turn into...
"Lance Stephenson made his debut in the Deveroes Summer League yesterday. The highlight came when he broke his defenders ankles on a crossover(literally someone had to call 911 and an ambulance came), drove into the lane and jumped OVER a 7'1" guy to dunk. He finished the night with a moderate 12 points, but would have had considerably more had he not missed the entire 3rd quarter on his cell phone negotiating a peace treaty between Israel and Palestine. Look for Lance to be a key leader in UC's NCAA championship title in 2009/10.

Wow!.. That sounds great. But from what I was told Lance was by far the best basketball player on the floor. He finished with somewhere around 15-20pts. 9 in the first half. He did not miss the 3rd quarter b/c there were two halves(thank god, people were worried about him missing that quarter). I think it would be well written if they just simply state that Lance is the cherry on top to a program that has rebuilt itself back to where it was and where everyone who watches college basketball expects them to be. With the addition of an X's and O's coach, who is yet to prove that he can develop players like Huggins can. I am confident that he and George Jackson can.
Lance is a nice addition. A huge addition to any team . This UC team is pretty well put together and you will see some good things out of them. Talent and experience is a big deal and they have it again.

Im sorry I must have been thinking of his All star NBA career in regards to quarters comment.
Lets be real here. UC has a good team right now and potentially a very good team. But there are some serious question marks...you guys continue to hype them up to be North Carolina like...The enquirer, Mick, All the fans that have come out of nowhere (including Mick bashers), etc are all excited (as they should be), but expectations have grown to absurd levels...
Within the last month alone, I have heard numerous predictions of final four, number 1 seeds, stephenson 1st team all american, winning the big east, and National championship contender...

As much as I hate UC, I have no reason to question anything ??? says, considering he's been pretty much right on with most of his predictions. Still not going to worry about Lance at UC until he physically checks in a game though.
Not hear to start trouble. I like the XU and the fans.
As for UC fans going overboard, we always have. Normally we have a good argument(last 3 years are an exception). Now we do again. Anyone predicting an actual finish before the season is an idiot, regardless of coach, player or fan of any school. It is ridiculous. UC has a good team again. Lets see what they do on the floor.
I was just kidding about the quarter thing. I hope he sees quarters in two years, not one. Mick bashers were going to come back, just like all fans do. Too many people had alot of emotion and money invested in the past at UC. They have gotten over it, but it took a while.
As for the Lance Stephenson thing, and the guy claiming he knows people who Lance told gave him checks and whatever else, that is news to me. It is exactly opposite of everything that I know and I have been told second hand by "someone" close to me that three coaches at big time schools that recruited him to the last second have been open about him being fine as far as eligibility and them just flat out missing on him.
Who knows. Like I mentioned before, any UC fan or college hoops fan should see that Lance Stephenson is a big cherry on top of a pretty solid team at UC.

I can agree with you here. Gates is a great talent. Future NBA first rounder. Vaughn great kid great talent. And Thomas is a huge pickup (Although I think he'll be a little bit rusty like Lavender was when he returned after a long layoff). Stephenson, Wright, and Kilpatrick should be good contributers, but they are freshmen. I really like the way Bishop plays. Scrappy, good size, disruptive on D, and can slash. Dixon will be much improved. Davis will be ok off the bench. Wilks has been a disappointment so far, but his athleticism is there. And the big guy down low toyloy is much improved.
All in all UC has the potential to be very good. But there are some question marks for them as well. Will Cashmere live up to the hype? Is that injury 100% behind him? Will Stephenson cause any distractions or friction? Will Thomas be the big time transfer many think he will be, or will he be another Mike Williams? Will Gates stay out of foul trouble? Can Mick get them to gel and play as a team with so many new key units, and so many guys who can score? Defensively will they make the effort?

One of my favorite lines from delusional UC fans is when they declare Cash Wright the savior of the program but in the same breath dismiss any possible contribution from Cheeks this year.

That last part is the key for me, particularly after last year, which it looks like UC quit on Mick down the stretch. It sure looks like the pieces are there, but can Mick get them to play as a team?

Consider the situation for a bit. Vaughn, it turned out, was playing much of season on a bad ankle. Gates, who is not known as a worker, was probably playing more ball than he ever had in his life. Toyloy was adjusting to D1 and it wasn't coming easy in the Big East. This team was sucking air just to keep up at the end of the year. Whether it was physical or psychological, I don't know if they were able to keep it up. Disappointing, yes, but not surprising.
You can blame that on Mick, but I think given the steps he's had to take in the rebuilding process and where the talent was at it was going to be on Vaughn to be the difference maker the whole season. He didn't complain about the injury, but his production was obviously impacted.
Guys like Davis and Dixon had too little experience to take over. Bishop was trying to play out of position always. Mike Williams was a disappointment, I suppose. But I think these guys will come back this season with experience that can pay off.
X consistently wins because it always has multiple talented upperclassmen to lead the way. I think UC is getting there this season and will certainly have it next year.

Originally I commented on a post a read about Jordan Crawford a month or so ago. I saw where some people had asked about the DSL and I wrote what I saw at the game. Then I posted a little recruiting information. Nothing that positive or negative really.
Then I got attacked and have just defended myself b/c I cannot walk away. Plus, you guys have a guy by there name "The Rick44"(or close to that) that does a good job of writing about recruiting so I read it. Not until recently have any of you gotten mad at me. I don't start any trouble.

It's cool. I haven't pumped Lance really. I just brought out more truth to add to someone's post on here. I expect to get some hell on here and I really did not intend to post this much. As I mentioned, I have only wrote about some XU players, some recruits XU is involved with and responded to a couple of threads about Lance Stephenson and now Mick Cronin's wife. I won't be annoying you guys that much.

Not sure. It was late on a weekend when I was reading about some recruiting on here. I was not going to do anything Bearcat related(to look like a trouble maker) and the only message boards I have ever signed in to are for UC or this XU site.
I will leave you guys alone. If I get anything on recruits I will post(or let XU friends who read and contribute to this site know about it) but I will not argue anymore. I have nothing bad to say about XU and I am not a loser that would get on here to just go back and forth. I am not a Dayton fan.

I don't mind you one bit. I think its interesting to know other points of view from other colleges. You've seem open and fair. I've heard different things regarding certain recruits, but obviously you have your sources too. In the end its all just opinion. I don't think you're coming on here like that UD fan who's just trying to stir trouble. You relay information that you've heard and that you're board believes. Feel free to post whenever as long as its objective and informative, and not insulting or dayton-like....

I second this. ??? started to toe the line of trolling, but only because he got pulled into an argument. I like reading what he has to write for the same reasons as Jimmy. Its nice to see what other schools are hearing about common recruits.
