I got my weekly "weekend special rates' e-mail from Delta. I'm sure many of you get it.

Here's what they lead with:

Departing from: Fare— Each Way*
(based on round-trip purchase)

Columbus, OH (CMH) to Cincinnati, OH (CVG) $59 Book Now

Cincinnati, OH (CVG) to Columbus, OH (CMH) $59 Book Now

Seriously? $120 (plus fees) round trip to Columbus? Who the f takes this flight?

I think whoever thought this was a good idea for a promotion needs a old-school mace to the crotch.

The next time the airlines are in trouble, I'm going to dig this e-mail out and remind them to suck an egg.

I have flown between CMH and CVG, but usually was coming from or going to somewhere like Arizona or California.

I'm sure that connecting flights are the reason this leg exists at all. I'm just amazed that someone decided that a $120 round trip from Cincinnati to Columbus was a promotable item.

Agree that as a promo it makes no sense. Someone at the editor's desk in Atlanta was asleep at the switch.

Delta sucks, 7 bucks for a drink and you MUST pay in cash. Delta - "We love to nickle and dime you and it shows"

I remember when Snipe was telling me the governement should bail Delta out. Of course this was because Snipe had bought Delta stock. Snipe is a libertarian(until he comes up for a reason the government can help him out).

did you say Snipe is a librarian?

I think that Snipe was just preying on a feeble mind. :D

The feeble mind would belong to the guy who bought stock in an industry with notoriously low margins.

Garvin, YOU SUCK! It's the smack board. How dare bring rational financial thought and not reactional irrational thinking to it. By the way, great preschool effort you put forth with the messages you sent me. In case you haven't checked my amazing profile....Your mother would disagree with your first statement and I am not afraid of a feeble, limp wristed punch. So, take your best shot. I bet you'd rather take four pitches and prance triumphantly to first base (which is as far as you've ever been with a woman) like MHettel. You are worthless and weak and I appreciate your silly effort.

How dare you lump me in with MHettel. Even the smack board should have boundaries.

You're right........I'm sorry. No real man should be lumped in with that walking defending, Zima sipping (you know he does) shell of a biological man. That is uncalled for, even on a smack board.

I think it was probably generated by a computer. Which, fortunately, somewhat discounts my theory that the Matrix could really happen.

You guys in Cincy get F*ed.

You need to live in a town with Southwest Airlines. They, in turn, F all the other airlines.

I'm flying to Chicago to our granddaughter's baptism for $49-yep, $49 bucks on Continental. They have to match Southwest's fare or see an empty plane. All the better for the consumer.

CVG is the worst- all because Delta has a stranglehold.

BTW Kahns- that CVG-Columbus fare is promoted probably because there is no other fare out of Cincy less than a $grand!:p

Thad Matta.

Oh wait, nevermind...he flies out of Lunken, not CVG.

You're right about that, MOR. Traditionally, CVG has been the most expensive airport to fly out of year after year. When I was looking for flights for my honeymoon, I was shocked to find out that CVG was cheaper than Indy, C'bus and Lexington. Apparently, Delta has lowered rates out of CVG. They still don't touch Southwest, though.

SWA is the straight-up nizzles.

If you are a responsible credit card user who uses said card a good deal, then the SWA card is awesome. I get 2-3 freebies a year and the requirements aren't as draconian as the legacy airlines. Plus the freebies are far easier to redeem.

Isn't Cleveland a Continental hub? I would think they would have a few cheap flights that cycle like Delta will.

Yep. but just because you're a hub (see CVG) doesn't mean that you have cheap flights. In fact, the bigger the "hub" the less the competition. You need a Southnwest or Jet Blue to keep the hub guy honest.

I'll even settle for AirTran or Frontier at CVG - I feel the need to take a shower anytime I have to travel to Dayton to get on an AirTran/discounted Delta flight.
