Here we go again. Just as enmities between UCF and USF exist, so is the fact that UC will never allow Xavier to be part of any Big East (even if only for basketball ) conference.
However, I notice with great interest the author's regard for Dayton, which for a number of reasons will soon be less than desirable as a new conference member and have even more trouble competing in the A10.
Yes, UD basketball is about the only entertainment sports offering left in Dayton, no disrespect meant to Wright State. The Flyers are still THE University of Dayton.
But--and all you have to do is take a look at the empty GM parking lots in Moraine City, along with the empty auto carrying train cars next to those empty lots and you can get an idea of the impact that city is going to feel even more than it has. GM, Delco, National Cash, gone for all practical purposes, not to mention Frigidaire. Hell, even Wright Pat AFB isn't what it once was.
It's a nice scholarly paper, but who is going to be the first to kill the golden-egg laying goose?
Dayton recruiting may have improved, but the school is still nowhere near as attractive as Xavier.:D:D:D

q,
Great post, though, as a native Ohioan and being proud of that, it hurts to hear news of economic decline, regardless of which part of the state experiences it.
I was born and raised in Portsmouth, so I know something about an economy being put and putting itself into reverse.
Wilmington takes 4 torpedoes broadside and now southwest Ohio gets to brace for the GM effect.

q,
If the Big East split into two separate conferences along FB and BB lines as the article mentions, what possible influence could UC exert on a League of which they were no longer a member (i.e. to prohibit XU from joining with the likes of Villanova, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Providence, St. John's, DePaul, and Marquette as a member of the BB-driven half)?
Furthermore, why would UC even care at that point?
