...to come to USC...nice.
If true (it's true), welcome to the blacklisted world of college hoops.

Goodbye Tim Floyd. THAT is a major violation.
Now here's the interesting scenario that could definitely occur:
-Floyd gets fired.
-USC needs a new coach to clean up the mess and goes after Southern California native Jamie Dixon to restore the reputation.
-Dixon leaves for huge dollars and a long term deal.
-Pitt needs a new coach.
-Racoon Face slits his wrists for going to Arizona when the Pitt job could have been his if he waited a month. Before he does so, he mails anthrax letters to his former advisors Beaknose and Cal for in payback for their valued input. Amy Miller immediately moves the family back to Pittsburgh.
Ok, just kidding about the last point......sort of. :p

I am not 100% sure about all of the players in this drama, but for now, the allegations are from a guy that is on the outs with Mayo that seems to be trying to get even with everyone that did him wrong. He says that he saw Floyd give this guy $1,000 in cash and that it was his perception that it was a thank you for delivering Mayo. Of course, the detailed story is that he didn't see a hand-off because he was circling in the SUV.
Personally, I hope that USC rots on the vine because they seem to have a lot of people tossing a lot of money are marquee players (mostly football), but on the surface, this allegation seems like it is going to be no more than "he said, she said". Maybe the NCAA can find other witnesses to the pay out.
I think the assumption that Sean would automatically want the Pitt job (IF Jamie Dixon were to even want the USC job) is misplaced.

If I was Tim Floyd, I wouldn't pay Mayo in front of other people. I think the story is bunk because of that fact.
"HEY OJ MAYO, HERE IS $1,000"
Like that is believable. It doesn't pass the smell test. Though I didn't read the article, and I am just going off of one posters statement. They better have more than that.

Yeah, he'll certainly need to know what kind of pay increase he'd be looking at first. But Arizona is a special place.

...and places that will pay a couple of mil more are more special.

$1,000 gets you a lot these days...imagine how many years he would have gotten out of Mayo if he had paid 10x more

Thanks for restoring the avatar. Cream of the crop.
Don't look for the NCAA to come down hard on USC..They make too much money for the NCAA, far more than Indiana which got off with a slap on the wrists. Besides, the former NCAA lawyers will get another chance to earn their keep.
Why has it taken so damn long for the NCAA to come down on the Reggie Bush fiasco? And this Tim Floyd - OJ Mayo business is a year old or more. Why has the NCAA been dragging its feet?
If true--and there is little doubt it is--why hasn't there been some action? What's to keep other coaches and schools from doing the same?
Maybe the NCAA will get so mad at USC they'll slap Arizona with probation because of the sins previous coaches allegedly committed. How's that for irony?:D:D:D

I was reading an article this morning about the lawyer that handled Sampson during his NCAA "trial", and he said that the NCAA is one confusing organization. Even when you tell them that you acknowledge ALL of the complaints against a person or school, they will spend another 6 months re-checking the original complaints that they filed. He said that generally, by the time they levy sanctions, the school has cleaned up the problem and gotten rid of the evil doers, and yet the NCAA will smack all of the new people that had nothing to do with the problem... because they can.
The big problem that people have with the NCAA is that they are not consistent with their punishment. A small school can get in a lot of trouble for small infractions, and a big school can avoid trouble even after committing major infractions. USC is a big school with big infractions, but don't hold your breath waiting for probation, loss of schollies, or vacated titles.
If I was Tim Floyd, I wouldn't pay Mayo in front of other people. I think the story is bunk because of that fact.

The whole case seems pretty flimsy. The "witness" didn't see any money change hands. He just saw an envelope with some cash that he was told came from Floyd.
With Sampson, the NCAA had the cell phone records. They don't have a smoking gun in this case.

It was raining last night, so I dropped Miss Muskie off at the front door at the club. She was talking to the doorman as I drove off. Later I noticed that she had "cash" in her purse. When I asked her what she did for the doorman to "earn" the cash, she slapped me and walked off in a huff. I think that proves that she was up to no good.

Glow. You're dead right about what will happen to USC..Very little.
Glow et al, please read in today's online Sporting News Mike DeCourcy's article on Tim Floyd and the OJ Mayo mess. It has some very valuable information for all. Just information.:D

I was glad to read that he had the same reaction to the payoff that I had. What I don't understand is why there is such a rush to crucify Tim Floyd with such a flimsy story. Oh, that's right. Yahoo wants hits. Got it.

I thought this interesting:
"These guys have an artificial market value of zero and a true value of something greater. Even if we want them to be amateurs and we want them to follow the rules, the underground economy is going to kick in."

Brew, you are surely right about Glow's avatar. I still have my favorite but this one could raise a hard on on a wooden Indian, aka Coliga. Grrrrr.
But face it, until the NCAA equitably dispenses its justice and sentences large and small according to the crime, the Floyds et al of the college basketball ranks will continue to violate both the spirit and the letter of the bylaws.:D:D:D
