"Hofstra will explore moving its intercollegiate athletic program out of the southern-based Colonial Athletic Association, persons familiar with the athletic program said Thursday.

Hofstra did not say what has prompted its exploration, but it appears the university would prefer to have more of a northeast profile. The Atlantic-10 is Hofstra's first choice, those close to the situation said, but no openings currently exist in that New England-based group."

They would be an upgrade over Fordham.

I enjoyed the "New-England based" reference.

You can just leave at halftime like you normally do.

I enjoyed the "New-England based" reference.

Since we only have two members in New England, I'd agree that calling the league New England-based is a bit strong.

You need some new material.

The real pity about Hofstra is that they gave up on one of the best nicknames in the country in "Flying Dutchmen." They now go by the "Pride," which is a lame choice by any measure....

That's the same thing the New England-based ACC said.

The best thing going for Hofstra is its proximity to NYC. But it's probably the 30th top sporting attraction in the NYC metro area.

I prefer Fordham over Hofstra, which is an excellent Jesuit institution with the cash to potentially invest in athletics.

At least Hofstra has been to the tournament this decade (2000 and 2001) while Fordham's last appearance is 1992. Fordham might be the better academic institution, but on the hardwood Hofstra>Fordham.

Yeah, this is WAY better than going independent.

Wait till Payne and JD hear about this!

I like X being in a conference with like minded, respectable east coast academic institutions (not that Hofstra is a bad school...I'm sure it's a very good one, but Fordham is more like X than hofstra....which also gives me hope for the Fordham program in the long run).

Like I've said many times before, it's silly to fret about the A10 gaining or losing a couple teams. It makes absolutely no difference to X if St. Bonna drops out of the conference. It's ridiculous to think that X is being held back by Fordham and Lasalle.

Yeah, if only the A10 dropped a few teams, X would get to the Final Four. Sure.

Wait till Payne and JD hear about this!Unless you are named "Notre Dame" and you are playing football with your own television contract, "going independent" is not a viable option. Unless you enjoy playing in-season home-and-homes with the Houston Baptists of the world and never making a post season.

I was unaware of this outrage.

"Never underestimate the Flying Dutchmen" was a favorite line of mine. Pride doesn't do it for me. I think we should change our name to Redskins, after the Redskin Potato.

That horse is dead yet you still beat it. Your resolve is impressive at least.

I know. Staying constantly busy at work and trying to fit in a few minutes here and there on the board makes it hard to come up with something witty.
