Dee is rated the #27 PG with a score of 91 by ESPN.com
He would probably be higher but, if I remember correctly (always questionable at my age), he didn't play during the summer. Kids usually drop when they're not hitting all the AAU events.

He is vying for Mr. Basketball in Indiana. He out performed Teague in a head-to-head matchup. I'm thinking is stock will rise. I'm expecting his ranking to be somewhere aroung the #75 overall. :)

I think he is thinking of D'Vauntes who did out play Teague and his team did beat Pike earlier this season. I could be wrong but I don't think Dee's team played Pike.

Indystar.com on Dee Davis' Mr. basketball chances:
Dee Davis, Bloomington South: The 5-10 Xavier-bound point guard had an impressive resume even before this season, earning State Finals most valuable player honors as a sophomore on Bloomington South’s undefeated Class 4A championship team. While this year’s team isn’t as loaded as the one two years ago (Indiana sophomore Jordan Hulls was Mr. Basketball in 2009), Davis has led Bloomington South to a 14-2 record (losses to Center Grove and Pike by a combined 12 points). He is averaging 22.6 points, 5.4 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 steals. Davis is shooting 57 percent from the field and 46 percent from the 3-point line.
His chances: Davis was named MVP of the Hall of Fame Classic in New Castle in December, a field that also included Washington’s Cody Zeller and Warsaw’s Nic Moore (although if a re-vote was taken after the final instead of with two minutes left in the championship, Center Grove’s Jonny Marlin no doubt would have won it). Davis enhanced his reputation there as a playmaker. The Panthers, after losing last year in the regional to Jeffersonville, will need to make a deep run in the tournament and should be a heavy favorite in Sectional 14. A regional championship and big showing in the semi-state against an Indianapolis-area power would give Davis a boost.

Dee vs. Teague: Dee 29 pts 8 asst. 6 reb
Teague 25 pts. 7 asst. 7 reb
Hard to see the 25? rankings difference. Also Dee's team's starting 5 consists of a baseball player(signed with Xavier), a tennis player, a Belmont signee, and a kid who is getting a little interest from some DII schools. Pike's team is LOADED this year. Seeing the attitudes and court demeanor-I'll take Davis every day of the week.

Those are some great stats for the year and against Teague. Mack is going to have some options at point in the years to come.
I wonder if strong play by Davis will impact DSR's decision regarding X? I believe DSR expressed a desire to play point. Not saying DSR couldn't beat him out for the job (I have no idea if he could or couldn't) but if Mack wants both of them on the court, chances are that Davis would be point and DSR SG.

Holloway and Lyons are both point guards.

I'm well aware that Lyons and Tu are both PGs but only one is playing point. It is whether DSR would be willing to play SG if Mack decides he wants them both on the court at the same time. I believe DSR is currently a SG but expressed a desire to switch, most likely because he believes it will improve his chances of playing professionally. The two of them should be great together but if DSR is determined to play point and X needs him at the SG spot it could be an issue.
I did not know about Davis and DSR traveling together and potentially wanting to play together. That would be huge in getting him to come to X. He could still play point when Davis is on the bench and his senior year after Davis is gone. Or maybe Davis becomes his back-up.
My gut says he will be a Muskie but I have no inside knowledge on that.

Went to Bloomington last night to watch Dee Davis against #5 in 4A Center Grove and I was very impressed. He sees the floor tremendously well, plays good defense, has a nice shot, and can get to the basket quick. I think he is going to be a valuable asset to the team next year and will be a nice backup for Tu.

From Indystar
* South senior point guard Dee Davis (Xavier) didn’t have his best shooting night (7-for-15), but he’s as cold-blooded as Turner (or former South guard Jordan Hulls). Center Grove cut the lead from 20 to nine late in the third quarter when Davis – just 3-for-10 to that point – drained 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions and kill Center Grove’s momentum. South’s lead never dipped below 12 the rest of the way. Davis finished with 22 points and nine assists. He gets a little reckless with the ball occasionally, but I honestly think he’s just trying to keep himself entertained.

cu15anthony, It's good to hear that Davis is shooting the 3 well. Does he have a quick release, good form? Does he create his own shoot, or are they setting screens for him? Size and outside shooting were my two biggest concerns about him. If he has grown an inch or two, he is probably about the same size as Tu, give or take. Listing Tu as 6' is extremely generous IMO.
Comments please.
Also, concerning Lyons next year, considering the way he has been playing recently, I will be VERY surprised if someone beats him out at the 2 guard spot. Remember, Martin will be a freshman, very much like Cheeks was last year. He he has the talent and shooting ability the we keep hearing, he should get pt, but some of that will more than likely be at the 3 spot. It will be a dog fight for that position. Think Robinson returning, who has played quite a bit of time at that position this year, and although a rough diamond which needs polishing, he is a diamond, nevertheless. Then Canty (Hopefully) will be back. He also has some real time D1 experience at the s SF. Has anyone heard why he is out indefinitely? Did he re injure the stress fracture in his foot, or did he injure something else?
Then add to the mix, Dez Wells and Justin Martin. Wow! That is a good problem to have. The only problem is lack of experience, and of course, that is major.

Good post. I agree completely. Tough lineup for Darwin to crack as a Freshman. I wonder if we will see Holloway playing closer to 30 minutes per game with Lyons starting at the 2 and moving to the point when Holloway is out. Lyons has a great PG skill set and I fully expect him to man the point his senior year. The 2/3 spot is going to be tough with Lyons, Redford, Wells, Canty and Martin. I see Robinson playing almost exclusively at the 4 with T. Taylor, Frease, Robinson, and Latham manning the 4/5.
Right now it looks like Griff is going to have an uphill battle for playing time, as will all of the Freshmen. It really looks like we are going to have more talented players than we will minutes, but next year is a long way off. I have learned not to expect too much from Freshmen, particularly with the more experienced talent X will have. That is not a bad thing. Freshmen playing serious minutes should be reserved for only the truly extraordinary. I see Wells as having the best shot at seeing significant time next year out of the incoming class.

SixFlag the article on IndyStar doesn't do justice. I mean Holloway shoots terrible from the floor but still ends up with 20+ points in the end. Same thing for Dee Davis the other night. Didn't have the best shooting night but had 22pts.
Benxman he has good form but it seems like his release is a bit slow but he has a nice shot. As far as creating his own shot he can do both...he can come off a screen or just dribble through the defense and take it to the hoop. Also he is listed as 6'0 but I would say its more like 5'11 but regardless I think he will be an impact player during his career at X.
Boozehound...I agree minutes are going to be tough for him to get with the depth we will have but I think he can definitely step in when called upon next year and make an impact.

Justin Cage won it. Just sayin.
It is not always the rule, but if there is a toss up, it goes to the kid going to IU. If there is not a clear dominant player (like Oden or Deshaun Thomas), they will give it to a kid going to IU, or someone who makes a great play in the state finals (see Luke Zeller).
Justin Cage, Pike (Mr. Basketball); Kenneth Harris, Griffith; Beau Bauer, Cass; Sonny Troutman, Brebeuf; Austin Montgomery, Perry Meridian; Errek Suhr, Bloomington North; Peyton Stovall, Lafayette Jefferson; Parnell Smith, Pike; Dan Cage, Chatard; David Barlow, Pike; Stanley Burrell, Ben Davis; Andrew Hershberger, Goshen; Brandon Crone, Frankfort; Adam Liddell, DeKalb
Look at this list and tell me if you see a run away winner, no kids going to IU. Yes, Stanley is on the list, but he went to prep school, and Indiana will not give the highest title in all the land to a player going to prep school.
http://www.indystar.com/data/sports/allstars.shtml?appSession=559288708735686
Look at the list, there is a trend. I don't like it, but growing up in Indiana I know how it works. It is a political award, one that the criteria is shifty, it is award bu old old indiana basektball writers, most of whom went to IU.

Ehh, I think the IU/in-state college bias is a little overstated. I think it definitely exists on some level, but it isn't as strong as people make it sound.
When is the last time an IU player won Mr. Basketball without deserving it?
I do think there was a stronger bias in the past.
As for this year, Zeller will probably win it. But really, you can make a solid argument for him or Dee Davis. Zeller, however, is a more prominent player- not just because he is going to IU, but because of who his brothers are and the fact he is such a highly regarded recruit. Had he chosen North Carolina, he would be in a similar position. I do agree that there are politics involved in the award.
For what its worth: the year Cage won it, Errek Suhr was on the list and went to IU. Obviously, he didn't really have a shot at the award, though.

Because Zeller has a higher ranking he's a more prominent player? Really? Tell that to Teague who's sitting at home-or DSR. Put Dee against Zeller this year: Dee was named MVP of a tournament that they both played in. Career: Dee has never lost a game played at South. Never played a freshmen OR JV game in his career. Played in every sectional final(4), 3 regional finals, 2 semi states, and now 2 state championships(one he was the MVP). Zeller can play in the paint and defend. So can Davis-he's smart enough to post up guys his size and is the best defender possibly in the state. Zeller cannot handle the ball or shoot the 3. Dee can. Who's the better passer? Dee-hands down. I live in In and have heard all of the talk about Mr. BBall. If Zeller wasn't committed to IU-Dee would win.

Davis dropped into the low 100's of the ranking due to him not playing AAU over a summer. He just did his own thing so the scouts didn't get a chance to see him, and naturally, allowed him to drop dramatically. It's pretty common knowledge that he's much better than what his rankings are showing him to be.

Dee Davis - State Champ. XU recruits winners, let's hope he gets a few more titles to match it.

Bloomington South wins 56-42.
Dee with 13. Didn't play his best game, but made some very big plays at crunch both to dish and score.
I was impressed with the Bloomington team play however. J. R. Holmes is obviously one heckuva coach. Soild team play.

I saw a Tweet saying that he had 6 assists and 5 rebounds in the third quarter or something so I imagine he added a bit to those stats to go with 13 points. It looks like he's a complete player.

I don't care if he colors his hair or rocks a rainbow wig. If the kid plays ball and develops like past players at X, then I'll be happy.

Final stats for Dee: 13 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and named "Player of the Game".
Dan Dakich was the color guy on the telecast and both he and the play by play guy had really good things to say about Xavier while pointing out that Dee was going there numerous times. Dakich also called Cintas Center "Possibly the nicest College basketball arena in the midwest."

Does that mean we would see him in the stands at Fordham screaming like a loon?!?

Final Top 20 Rankings for Indiana Recruiting 2011 Class (http://blogs.indystar.com/recruitingcentral/2011/04/25/final-top-20-rankings-for-indianas-2011-class/)
6. Dee Davis – 5-11 point guard, Bloomington South: The Xavier recruit had an outstanding senior season, averaging 21.6 points and leading South to the program’s second Class 4A championship in the last three seasons. Davis is an intense competitor who seems to raise his level of play in the biggest games. The only question at the next level will be his size. He may be quick enough that it won’t matter on the offensive end.

I've said it before, but Drew Lavender anyone? Lavender was a McD's kid of course and Davis was "only" an Indiana Mr. Basketball contender, but the parallels are very interesting. It's a lot to hope for, but if Davis ends up single-handedly destroying any attempt at a full-court press, dishing out beautiful passes, and knocking down 3s and teardrops at a high rate, that would be amazing. God, I loved Drew.

Davis seems to be a Lavender type player. The offense could really look smooth with him running the show if he does turn out to be of similar talent and style. If one of the bigs become a low post scoring threat his sophomore year, X will be incredibly difficult to stop.
Kick to Redford/Martin, dump down low or take the teardrop. There is also the speed of Lyons that could be out there with Davis at times.

Looks like Davis is back in the Scout Top100. Glad to see him get some recognition for a great senior year.

The kid's definitely got game. I like the way he gets his 3 off quickly. He goes either right or left on the dribble, hits the mid range jumper and demonstrated a nice floater going to the basket. He also passed well inside out, and had a steal. Pretty nice package.
Anyone seen him @ the Deveroe yet? Just curious.
GO MUSKIES!

Nice. I think Xavier fans will see that Dee wills his team to win. He will put his teammates in the best positions to be successful, and he never expects any pats on the back. Kid doesn't even cares if he scores, unless his team needs him to. He knows that the big guys get fired up and play harder if they get to touch the ball on the offensive end of the floor. Excited to see him play!:logo:
