UMass thoughts

[X-band '01]

This was one of those games where UMass clearly wanted to set college basketball back about 20 years - very deliberate pace, lots of missed shots on both ends. Much like their namesake, they started off well (were down a basket at the half) but couldn't finish in the end.

Amber had to work for a double-double tonight (10 pts, 12 rebs, 7 blocks); only in the 2nd half was Xavier finally able to shoot over UMass's 2-3 zone and ultimately be able to work the ball inside to Amber.

This ended up being a really tough game for X mainly because we couldn't hit ANY open shots in the 1st half. We had good looks at the basket, especially from the perimeter, but couldn't knock them down. UMass really isn't that good, and I don't think we started the game with much intensity.


For a team with as much talent as this one has, it's amazing how bad our shooting is at times.
I thought Jennings had a good 2nd half. Hit a couple 3's and played pretty well.
Once X started to connect from outside, the game was over.
The team had a few defensive breakdowns today but overall they were pretty good on the defensive end.
Ta'Shia struggled today with fouls, turnovers, and wasn't really able to get in the game. But she was bound to have a bad game sooner or later so I'm not worried about it.
April didn't play well either.
Tudy did a nice job off the bench with 9 pts and 8 rebounds.
