He's apparently been banging UofL's equipment manager's wife. Oh, and it turns out she might be an extortionist. Messy.

Guess I must have missed it but I didn't read any where in that newspaper article that Pitino was banging somebody?? I also didn't read that he had been accused of that.
With that in mind, I also have to wonder about the title of this thread which I believe finds Pitino guilty of something with which he has yet to be charged, let alone found guilty of. Wait, I'll go back and reread the story.
On further review, my incredulity stands. If that headline were amended to say it is my opinion that Rick Pitino is..., I might be able to understand, but where in that story does it say he's having an inappropriate relationship with the woman named in the story???
Oh, and the comments are just like many of the unsubstantiated rumors and allegations common to most chat boards...Just what I said they were.
I believe it might be prudent to wait until charges are filed, specific details are published and/or the FBI findings are released and the case is adjudicated. Ya think?
BTW, I have no connection to Rick Pitino and only things I know what I have seen and read about the man. Nothing more nothing less.

At the very least it makes you wonder about the timing of Rick's kid making the lateral move to Florida. Maybe we should be commending Arizona for doing their due diligence.

I like your take on this and I agree. She wants money for being a slut. That makes her a whore after the fact. Pitino is a slimeball but so is she, and she is the worse for wanting money for it.
I have never cheated on my wife. Like any sane man I am attracted to other women. That is the reason we call them "attractive" in the first place. There is a reason we call it temptation. There is a reason why you need the intestinal fortitude and inner courage to do what is right. If life was that easy and doing the right thing was a walk in the park everyone would do it. Then it wouldn't be temptation or a challenge either.
People fail and people sin and I wish I could take the high road more often. I look down upon people who betray their spouses. (I know my mother ingrained that upon me). I just do. I am a bigot when it comes to them. I don't approve, I think it is wrong, and I feel sorry for their children.
But for a bitch to use that temporary lapse of reason and faith to exploit it for cash is the worst. It doesn't matter if it is Bill Clinton, Bill O'Rielly or Wade Boggs. I don't like it when the whores cash in. For money they will destory a family. The will destory a child's life for money, pure and simple.
Wade Boggs shouldn't have been seeing some slut way back when. He should have known better and comported himself like a gentleman. But does his kid deserve some Penthouse expose with all the lurid details? Does any kid deserve that?
And the wifes of these people are publicly humiliatied. I remember watching Elliot Spizters (sp?) wife next to him on the podum. I felt so bad. If my wife cheated on me I would be pissed no doubt. I think we could reconcile. At least it would be possible.
If it was front page news that my wife was a whore I don't think I could reconcile. That is the threat of the extortionist. I will destory your life, your reputation, and everything. Your wife will have to leave you and you will lose your children. Unless you pay money for me to keep quiet.
I think that Pitino did it, and that he is is a GoMuskies said a slimy little horndog. That said I support him in his fight to nail this blackmailing bitch to the wall. She is just as guilty as he is in the sex, and she is more guilty for looking to gain.
WKRQ refused to read between the lines. I guess that makes our newspaper man illiterate.

Its pretty widely known in Louisville that he has had relationships with at least 2 cheerleaders or ex-cheerleaders, both of them after he and his wife separated, although there is speculation that the first one may have played a factor in that separation. Its rumored that he has an apartment near campus, in addition to his house, that is sort of his love shack.
There is also speculation that the reason he had to go to the Mayo Clinic in Cleveland a few years back under mysterious circumstances was due to an STD of some sort that blew up on him.
I ran into a local Louisville kid who played for Rick for a few years before transferring, and while I'm sure he was bashing Rick because they didn't get along, hence the transfer, he openly talked about Rick's relationship at the time with another woman and confirmed the STD story before I finished asking about it. Who knows if the kid was speaking out of revenge or just the truth but it backed up a number of the rumors.
I would say all of this is rumor and speculation but they are widely discussed in Louisville, many people take it as fact, and most don't care as long as he wins games.

Snipe, I don't refuse to read between the lines. I just don't like to presume guilt until it is proved. To me the rumor and gossip of this nature that some people spread is motivated by envy and /or just plain hate.
A friend of mine, a very dear friend I often play golf with, once told me when I was employed, "I envy you. You're on the road and have a veritable smorgasboard of opportunities to enjoy the variety of life in regard to women. It must be very difficult for you to pass up all that luscious available pxxxy."
My response to him--and this is in no way self-engrandizing now as it wasn't then--was quite simple.
"It's not difficult at all because I know what I have at home is far better than anything that could possibly exist on the road. Besides I love my wife."
Regarding Pitino, I follow the "Judge not lest you be judged philosophy," and save myself a lot of time in the box.:D

I disagree on this. He is so "beloved" by those in Louisville and ESPN that I think this will be brushed over in days and the lady extorting him will be seen as the only bad person involved. I think many fans will make jokes about it, but no actual uproar will be caused.

Here is how I think it went down:
RP - Rick Pitino
EM - Equipment Manager
MEM - Mrs. Equipment Manager
EM - Hey, Rick.
RP - Hi, dude carrying basketballs.
EM - Awful pretty morning here in northwestern Kentucky.
RP - Yeah, I love the smell of horse manure at dawn.
EM- Rick, can I ask you something?
RP - Can it wait, I'm using the industrial grade floor drying fans to get my 'do just right.
EM - Actually, I really need to talk to you; I found some of your clothes in the wash.
RP - Great, hopefully the spaghetti stain came out. I love spaghetti... and lasagna, but I really love spaghetti. Go ahead hang the black suit and red tie up in the black suit red tie locker.
EM- Actually I found some of your clothes in the wash at home.
RP - You should keep work and personal separate, man.
EM - I think I did. The clothes weren't UofL stuff, but Rocky boxer shorts with RP written on the elastic band.
RP - I think those are Sosa's, he's into that stuff.
EM- Why would Edgar Sosa write RP to identify his underwear.
RP - I dunno, maybe it's something with the Spanish.
EM- I don't think so Rick. I actually found the boxers with a note on them that said to wash the boxers before your husband finds them.
RP - Well that could be from anyone, I mean...
EM- The note was signed "Yours in Red and Yours in Bed, Rick Pitino."
RP - Hmmm, well, looks like your wife is a slut. I'm off to Fazoli's.
---------------------------------------- (Later that night at the EM home)
EM - Honey, I found something in the wash I'd like to talk to you about. Do these look familiar?
MEM - Yeah, they look like something Edgar Sosa would wear.
EM - Actually, they belong to Rick Pitino.
MEM - Oh...
EM - He told me everything.
MEM - He told you how much he loved me?
EM - He told me you were a slut.
MEM - Oh....
EM- Now what are we supposed to do?
MEM - Extortion?
EM- Wait, he got you pregnant?
MEM - No, honey. Extortion.
EM - Oh, I love you.

Kudos to you "Q"
Being an ex newsman, I appreciate when anyone shows enough balls to do it the right way.
Need many more of your type back in the business. Too many "shock jock" type writers, producers, and reporters out there. News reporting has gone the way of Entertainment Tonight.
Interesting that the media now is protecting Pittino by not detail what the accusations are against him, but no problem naming and putting up pictures of the women accused of extortion even though she has not yet been criminally charged. Media outlets used to be wary of doing things like that, used to care about potential damage to a reputation, no more!

Louisville coach Rick Pitino told police that he had consensual sex with and paid for an abortion for the woman who has been charged with trying to extort him, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported on Tuesday.
Karen Cunagin Sypher was federally charged in April with demanding cars, tuition for her children and finally $10 million. Police interviewed Pitino regarding the incident last month, and according to the newspaper, he said that he gave the woman $3,000 to have an abortion.
Police records obtained by the Courier-Journal show that Pitino said he had sex with the then Karen Cunagin at a Louisville restaurant where he had been drinking on Aug. 1, 2003. He denied Cunagin Sypher's allegations that he raped her at the restaurant and then again later at a different location.
Pitino told police that Cunagin Sypher called him about two weeks after the initial encounter and said that she was pregnant. They arranged to meet at the condominium of Louisville strength coach Tim Sypher, whom she did not know at that time but would later marry.
According to the police report, Pitino said Cunagin Sypher had decided to get an abortion but claimed to not have health insurance. Pitino then gave her the $3,000. He told police that the two did not have sex at the condo or at any other location.
According to the report, Cunagin Sypher married Tim Sypher about six months later and, though she saw Pitino at team events, he claims there was never "any strange behavior." Cunagin Sypher and Tim Sypher are now estranged.
Cunagin Sypher reported the alleged rapes on July 9, about two months after she was indicted for extortion and lying to the FBI.
Sgt. Andy Abbott, the commander of the police department's sex offense unit, asked Cunagin Sypher during one interview why she waited until after she was indicted on the extortion charge to report her allegations.
She gave varying answers, according to transcripts, saying she wanted to forget about it, then that Pitino threatened her and finally that "they kept throwing crumbs to keep me happy." She didn't say what they were, the newspaper reported.
Abbott asked Cunagin Sypher in the interview why she was coming forward now, only after she was charged.
"Because ... where we are, it seems like retaliation," Abbott said.
"I know it does," Cunagin Sypher responded.
In addition, Cunagin Sypher did not disclose that there was a witness to the event at the restaurant, Vinnie Tatum, an executive assistant to Pitino. According to Abbott's report, Tatum said he didn't see what happened but heard "only the sounds of two people that seemed to be enjoying themselves during a sexual encounter."
Louisville commonwealth's attorney David Stengel declined to prosecute the case in July.
The newspaper obtained the records under the Kentucky Open Records Act.
The bold parts are my favorite.

I recommend all members of XH to, at some point, quote themselves. I find it very therapeutic.
I support the public ostracizing figures for this type of stuff. Even decent pro-choicers have to admit that abortion is not a morally neutral act.

Uninsured? Are abortions even covered if you ARE insured? Maybe if the mother's life is in danger like if the fetus is stuck in the falopian (sp?) tube, but as a form of birth control? Plus how would she know she's pregnant 2 weeks after the encounter? Maybe under the Obama plan they'll be covered. That will get my vote...not.
