PETA is no stranger to oddball campaigns. A recent one was aimed to re-christen fish as "sea kittens" because "who could possibly want to put a hook through a sea kitten?"

So of their work is serious, but I think they are just doing this for the Halibut.

I used to have some sympathy for PETAs position but they lost me when they started harrassing children.

Maybe it's the History major in me or maybe I've been reading too many posts from Snipe, but I felt the need to back this comment with proof that they harrass children. Boy did I open up a can of worms for myself. First, there is an overabundance of anti-PETA and pro-PETA sites and commentary but nothing that I could really call unbiased. And I learned a bit more about PETA than I wanted to know.

There are several incidents when they targetted kids: Unhappy meals (Ronald McDonald with a butcher knife spattered in blood; Buckets of Blood (targetting kids at KFC); the comic "Your Mommy Kills Animals." But I also found several mentions of "PETA Kills Animals." There's even a web site. Apparently PETA has participated in euthenizing shelter animals in Virginia and North Carolina. In their defense, they claimed they were replacing inhumane death by shotgun or gassing with humane lethal injections. Still, seems a bit too much of a contradiction for a group that is reported to stalk children outside schools and lecture us meat-eaters for being unethical. You'd think they could take some of the millions a year they spend on advertising and put it towards care of animals.

On a side note, I think someone from this board is posting under the moniker Mokele Mbembe on AOLs blogs. I found the following comment that I'm sure would be appreciated by many of you guys here:

"PETA has a talent to get beautiful actresses to go nude, so there's one thing we should all learn from them."

Nude is always right but Peta is just going way too far w/ their argument.

Could you please qualify that statement before someone posts a nude pic of Majerus or re-posts the vomiting fat lady pic? Nude is sometimes very, VERY wrong!!!

I was referring to getting hot actresses taking their clothes off.

You brought up Majerius.

Well, I'm a girl so when someone says "nude is always right" my mind doesn't always jump to ladies first. Unfortunately, the most frequently posted pics of men on this site (excepting avatars) seem to be Huggins and Majerus. I can't see Huggins in my head wearing anything but gold lame so I had a brief image of Majerus in a bathing suit before my brain shut down.

Oh, point well taken. I will not be in charge of posting pics of men, though. Not my department.

I have a hard time respecting those who fight so hard for animals, while plenty of kids suffer in America. It's like spending billions in Africa for AIDS, while it could be spent here on other important things (protecting the US notwithstanding).
While animals should be cared for, I'm totally against putting the environment or animals before people. Earth first and PETA may have their priorities slightly out of whack.

Stoney, yes and no. Jesus himself along w/ the Jesuit tradtion tells us to help those who are less fortunate. That means here and across the world.

Fried....yummm..makes my mouth water thinking of it. Isn't it human nature to follow the food chain? Well right now we are on top. Yummy, fried chicken, fish, man it is making me hungry. I enjoy a nice deer hunt also...fresh deer meat, very tasty if cooked right and much healthier than processed.

Back to the original thread. I'm firing up the grill tonight w/ some nice grilled vegetables.

No not really, doing some beer brats tonight...but I might throw on some peppers and onions too.
