View Full Version : Thought on Transfers

Does anyone think it would be a good idea for the NCAA to prohibit players from transferring to the new school of their previous coach. Under the current system, a school like UK is buying not only the services of Coach Cal, but the services of his loyal players who choose to follow. If players knew coming in that they could not follow a coach it might change the dynamic. Of course that may work against smaller schools, if the coaching situation is deemed “unstable”. Thoughts?
Any rule that would further punish the players seems like a bad idea. They get screwed more than anyone from a coaching change.

I agree with DC X, even though the change can hurt the university with loss of players, the players should have the choice, since they chose that coach in the first place.

We know players choose schools based on coaches. Yet it seem like they, in a perfect world, should be choosing the school/program not a person. I believe that has been a key part of Xavier's success, getting players to buy the program, not just the coach. I personally feel that it shouldn't be easy for a player to follow a coach and probably the rule in place now, sitting out a year, is probably the best that can be done.

Last time I checked, this is America. And in America, things are done by Americans, not American'ts.
Kids should be able to leave whenever, wherever they want.
